  • Curry is of course an Indian food but it is also very popular in Japan. The flavor and the way it is cooked has been changed to match Japanese people's taste. I will show you a typical way to cook Japanese style Curry. It is served with steamed rice. Kids will love this.

@Windra3000 I got this beef at COSTCO. I don't remember what it said on the package but it usually comes in large strips. I used 2 strips which weighed about 700 grams = 1.5 lbs in this video.

@TheRivalConcept No, I have never used that sauce in my curry. It is a lot saltier than ketchup so you may need to put less curry sauce mix if you are using Tonkatsu sauce. Having said that, I do add Bulldog Worcester Sauce if the curry tastes bland.

  • @drokano

@CasualMelle This trick is something my wife started to do. Adding ketchup seems to make the taste more distinct as well as making it slightly sweeter. It really depend on your choice but this will make your curry taste better especially if you thought it tasted bland.

@drokano: Have you tried using Tonkatsu sauce or Semi Sweet Sauce? instead of ketchup? usually company is bulldog, lol i use these sauces for everything friend eggs, fried rice steamed or fried vegis and meat and tonkatus sause is a great substitue for yakisoba sauce and same gose for semi sweet sauce and okonomiyaki ^^

@zankyu Well, I was just being lazy, nothing more than that. Dump everything in the pot and cook for an hour... and it's done! Actually, water in this area is hard (and we haven't installed water softener) and the potato does not become too mushy. If you do this in soft water such as in Japan, yes, potato may even melt away and you'll notice your curry has become very grainy.

@timekiller159 It depends how much you want to make. That pot in the video is actually pretty big. It serves good 10-12 plates. Plus, I hate thin and runny curry.

that the same as saying that ketchup is a chinese creation. crusaders got interested in a dish thats not even considered a curry and try to copy it, thus giving birth to curry that is defined today. lol, i understand that even the british give credit to india for it. i only posted that for educational purposes and to get peoples attention.

@risalation You will probably be able to cut back on cooking time for 30 min if you are not putting any pork/meat in it, because what takes 60 min is cooking pork or meat tender enough. I assume vegetables won't take that long to cook. In terms of the amount of water, I would always add water until the ingredients just get submerged under the water level regardless of the type of ingredient I had put in.

@coldheartprince Hahaha, I don't know...of course it is not necessary but curry is something you put anything you think is good into the melting pot, so I tried it and liked it. My dad puts a piece of chocolate. I heard there are people who put small amount of instant coffee powder.
