If you put your beef (or any meat, for that matter) in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes, it makes it easier to slice. You don't want it completely frozen, just enough to firm it up a bit.

If the onions are flying all over the place you need to make the onions smaller or use a bigger pot.

I love this curry!! Seriously, I watch it every time I make it...you'd think I'd know it by heart by now, but I always play it anyways! Thanks so much for uploading it. My kids never had Japanese curry before, so I wanted to make it for them, and they love it! By far their favorite out of any of the curries I've made up till now! And it's so so easy, so it's my favorite as well!

Milk/cream was a nice addition! This is such a fun dish, and every family has their own recipe. Personally, I like to cook the onions down first before anything else then add beef which I shave thinly from a partially frozen chunk. Stir until the meat cooks, and then just add water and veggies and boil until the potatoes are finished. It requires much less stirring overall and can probably help control those pesky leaping onions.
Thumbs up for sharing your family's recipe and doing so with such a smooth and steady narration over tasteful background music!

    Oh, no worries!
It turned out pretty good! My family liked it, but I LOVED it and will make it again, for sure.
It is amazingly fragrant! The flavor I would describe as very fresh, not too spicy. One pot lasted for several meals and got only better the next day.
    I am officially hooked!

This is such a great question we can't even begin to tell you how happy we are that you asked!
We used 4 cups of water, BUT, EVERYONE be SURE to READ the RATIOS on the BOX of CURRY you use!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!
There are many things you can change and play with in terms of the ingredients you use in your curry, but if you make a mistake and have too much water in your curry it really ruins the whole dish.
This is such an important point, thank you so much for bringing it to light!
    Good Luck :D

They're cut from different carrots that are bred to have a sweeter flavor, different from the big, kind of bitter carrots you'd otherwise buy.

I highly recommend finely chopping the curry blocks. Putting them in whole "like so" and you are bound to end up with lumps, especially if you're using as many as you are. I learned this the hard way after making dozens of curry dishes.

I decided to make Japanese Curry today too. I bout mild curry brick. We don't have thin slices of meat around here, so I cubed stew beef. I added celery and bay leaf. I am not sure if it is right, but after browning veggies and meat in the skillet, I placed everything in CrockPot. It smells awesome!
Will let you know how we like it.

I'm glad you asked to clarify :) I would not recommend powdered milk, evaporated milk or condensed milk if you are trying to get the taste we make at home. Using a traditional cow's milk would be the best place to start and then if you feel like mixing up the flavor a little bit with some coconut milk that would be a nice touch. Welcome to the world of cooking~! After a few tries you'll have it down and be making world class curry in no time :D
