    This video series features the complete restoration of a 1972 CL350 Honda Scrambler motorcycle. The videos should help anyone whether working on a cafe racer build or a full-on original restoration. I'm definitely not an expert so please refer to your manuals for proper disassembly and assembly instructions. Please leave comments if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help answer questions if I can confidently provide solutions. Again, I'm not a professional. This is my 2nd Honda motorcycle restoration and I'm learning every single day. I'd love to hear your tips if you have better ways to do things. I hope you find the series useful and entertaining. I strive to show as much detail as possible so that the videos can be used as not only a how-to resource but also a reference for the placement and original setup of parts and systems.
    If you don't have one already please get a manual for your specific project. There are many available online for download for free. Common Motor Collective, from which I source many of my replacement parts, has a fantastic resource on their website: bit.ly/CBManuals You can also join groups on Facebook and get involved in the community.
    Keep on wrenching, Friends! b

    The vinegar portion is UA-cam Gold lol Why not try your Evaporust? For the back section of the exhausts I've seen people paint that swelled out part of it with VHT black paint and it looks smart with the chrome heat shields fixed over it...I wonder if you can get silver VHT? Anyway Brian, thanks for the laughs, my belly hurts now :)

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 роки тому +2

      Lol. Took one for the team with the vinegar. Smaller stuff Evaporust for sure...like the shields. It would take a ton of product for the exhaust. It’d probably work but I need to polish it all anyway. Overall the parts are pretty clean. There is silver VHT. Even in high temp. I bet that would pop a bit. Cool idea.

    These are all great methods if you like scrubbing a lot. If you prefer using less elbow grease try spraying some Tetrachloroethylene on OOO Steel Wool. Be sure to wear proper PPE and be outdoors. That stuff eats through gloves, I wore three pair when using it.

    Looks like the black area needs complete galvanic re-chroming. The way the surface is bulged up suggests that the corrosion got under the layer itself.
    Have you tried diy galvanic chrome plating?

  • @edwardmulder3777

    Pretty funny when u got to the Vinegar test, way to take one for the team, heheh, us a full face with chemical filter next time as it really cuts thru rust given time. Also, try electrolysis, the reaction rrmoves the rust and changes the metal, plus its mostly free and if done in an aerated area or outside its toxic free, takes about 24 hrs.

  • @Santor-
    @Santor- 3 роки тому +2

    Basically anything with an abrasive effect will work. No need for fancy brands.
    When its pitted like that elbow, the rust basically is going through the metal. Seen on rims often. One can make it less ugly, but not really fix it.

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  3 роки тому

      Certainly doesn't fix it but with some dedicated care they can look fine. for what these are. Thanks, Santor.

    To make the foil more effective and alot less uncomfortable to hear I always put a little bit of dish soap in the water plus I don't crumble up the foil I fold it into small squares its definitely my go to for chrome like yours Brian but theres definitely plenty of other ways to get to the end result I think on the really bad part of the pipe I would use a header wrap just on the bend keep up the great work

    • @billybones58
      @billybones58 4 роки тому +1

      Brian, I have used vinegar for cleaning tanks...it works great.
      I have tried molasses and water for rust, it works over time but smells worse than vinegar.
      My go to for rust is the electric route. A battery charger, a plastic container, a steel rod, and wire to suspend the parts. Negative clamp on part, positive on steel rod or bar(anode), and add some Arm and Hammer soda wash( from the supermarket). Immediately, you can see the action taking place. No rubbing, no harmful chemicals. It will not remove good chrome, but flakey paint will come off due to rust underneath.
      I use this method all the rime for bike parts. Great videos by the way.
