Glad it was helpful! Glad you are stocked and ready to get it done cotteeskid! Thank you for watching and sharing, have a great rest of your week my friend. mad Mike
I been a carpenter for 30 years now and a all around fix anything type of guy those multifunction tools rock great tool. I would suggest trying the cordless dewalt to its variable speed which is so freaking helpful in a lot of ways. As for the head bolts I would get some locking chrome caps with the little Alan screws they look good and lots of different styles. Great video keep pumping out the helpful content.
They definitely are a versatile tool brother! Thanks for the view and comment, we really appreciate it, have a fantastic rest of your week my friend. mad Mike
Exceptionally brilliant idea. Thankyou so very much. The amount of frustration, bleeding knuckles and cursing you prevented in immeasurable. Thankyou good sure. Take care.❤❤

Awesome man!!! I just ordered both the tool and the polish. I just bought a 2001 W 650 that was neglected and left uncovered for 5 years. This tip will help me bring her back to life!
@@SweetScoots Thank you kindly Sir. Gas tank is rusted, needs a new chain. Carbs have to be set up. Gas tank cap was seized had to pry it off. Needs some paint. Exsaust has been off all this time. It's not cheap, I know you have a life time invested in your craft just like I do in music.

I have seen bikes that the owner did this mirror finish work on the engine side cases. This was a popular customize job on the old XS 650 Yamaha engines. There was a problem when making the engine look so good…. it really makes an older motorcycle look like crap. It’s like having a filthy car with two brand new chrome bumpers on it without washing the car. Or just washing the windows on a muddy car… you have to be sure to Put the effort into the whole vehicle
Flitz sells 2 and 3 inch diameter buff balls you put on a fast drill, corded or cordless. They don't get into the fins the way this thing does, but they do get into any small nook and cranny, and they have no exposed metal at the tip or anywhere. The small ones also are mounted on a longer metal rod. So you can reach pretty deep into the bike easily, and they do a fantastic job polishing. They're washable so at least with Flitz own polish you can reuse them many times. No easier way I know of to polish spokes, either, if you have old school spoked wheels (they also have larger diameter options for more generic polishing of larger surfaces). The very low profile of this design is nice though, for doing things like engine fins.
I was wondering how to bring back the salt damaged fins on my ZR1100, this is the answer and recycling at its best. What is the white material you used and is the clear stuff cut from acrylic sheeting?
It's schedule 40 water pipe cut in half, heated up, flattened out and you can make it any length you want. Ours is 2 to 2 1/2 inch diameter pipe, it works the best. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great week. mad Mike
Very smart. I was wondering if you could use the polishing rouge like jewelers do and top it off with the mother's? There are several types from course for getting casting marks out and all the way up to fine. I know that the mother's is always a great protective coat. You're a smart man. Thanks

We use this goo.gl/z9TrgR it works really well and it will last over 5 years tommy. Thank you for watching and asking, have a great day my friend. mad Mike
You want to use a fine thread pitch on your 2 machine screws that will be vibrating like no tomorrow. Clever idea for shortening up all the sanding though.
Great tip. I’ve rigged a paddle per your demo. Plexiglass seems a bit thin. I’m punching through the cloth pretty fast. (About a minute in. Using an old tshirt.) What’s the width of your plex paddle? Thanks!
We use 3/8" to 1/4", flattened out PVC pipe works great too gerry! You are going to go through a lot of t-shirts doing this process :) Thanks for watching, have a great day and all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike Sweet Scoots

This looks like what I need to do on the fins of my kick-around Rebel that has been sirring around for about 2 1/2 years. Will this work on area behind the cylinders that has that powdery aluminum corrosion from sitting?
Yes it will, this process will shine any aluminum that you can get to. Thanks for watching emmett, hope you have a great day and all the best on your project. mad Mike

Thanks Ray! You can use this on spokes, just wrap these amzn.to/2yP98Cw around the end of it and just start sliding it up and down my friend (no pun intended :) ) LOL Thanks for the view, have a fantastic week. mad Mike
Awesome! Glad we could help brother! Thanks for the view and comment, have a great week and all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike Sweet Scoots
The reason we use bolts is because we know most people don't have a rivet gun, but that is a really good idea. The other issue with rivets is with the constant vibration we've had them shake loose and the other reason to use bolts is because it's easier to change out the plastic when needed. Thanks for the view and comment, have a great week. mad Mike
Great Mothers advertisement! PS: What about the other sides of the cylinder? I would rather have the cylinders in a honest matt finish than temporarily shiny on one and matt and dirty on the other sides, that is how typically the Chinese do things! LOL In general the tool used is a very good idea, for instance when working on dismantled cylinders!
We didn't say we didn't do underneath the fins. As far as you liking a matte finish and everyone else in the world liking a shiny finish, it's different strokes for different folks my friend. Have a great day. mad Mike
I can’t seem to find the link to the white and clear lexan and pbc that was drilled then used for the polishing could you provide that for me any chance ?
You want to use schedule 40 pipe, and split it in half, warm it up and flatten it out. The schedule 30 pipe that you get at homedepot will not work. If you're not sure which is which, just ask an associate at hd to help you get a 2 to 2 1/2 inch piece of schedule 40 water pipe. Thanks for watching and asking, have a fantastic week my friend. mad Mike
@@SweetScoots Hi mike, thanks for the reply actually made the tool with lexan and it worked fabulous! Would send you a pic but not sure how to attach it on here. Anyway I appreciate the info thanks
This amzn.to/48D2SdE is all we use on everything and have for years with the BEST results. Everything else out there is just fluff. Thanks for the view, have a great week my friend. mad Mike
Vous pouvez le faire comme vous le souhaitez, nous partageons simplement une solution simple et peu coûteuse qui fonctionne très bien. Merci pour la vue mon ami, passe une bonne semaine. Mike en colère
Do you think this would work with stripping paint off older style air cooled fins ? Or just use stripper and follow up with your method? Trying to polish a turd basically, looking for that mirror finish end result
Get the paint off there with this amzn.to/3Z2Gl48 then follow up with our method shown. You have to be relentlessly patient and do a little bit at a time so you don't drive yourself up the wall :) Thanks for watching and asking, have a great week and all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike Sweet Scoots
You can use a 3/32 bit And barely touch the trigger and let it wind up some #0000 Steel wool & put some Mothers on it & go around the bolts And follow-up with a little strip of cloth the same way.
I do not believe that there is clear coat on the chrome, but a quick way to find out is to take this amzn.to/3uzQ2Ip and rub an area with a microfiber towel and if it turns color at all, you will know that it is not clear coated. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, have a great week. mad Mike
@@SweetScoots Thanks Mad Mike, My 96er Rock boxes look so nice I was thinking they must be clear-coated. I was looking at a 103 a few months back, and was thinking they looked yellowish, like the top end had overheated and yellowed the clear-coating. -Wicklow Kelly - Ireland.
Sounds good kevin! Sometimes you just gotta get creative. Thanks for watching and sharing, we appreciate the input, have a fantastic week my friend. mad Mike

I’m with you it takes a lot of effort to keep your stuff shiny and I think our society is slowly getting extremely lazy so let’s just paint everything flat black lol thanks for the comment my friend mad Mike
Sorry for the late reply, we tried rivets but with the constant vibration the plastic became loose and it was more of a pain to replace the plastic...the bolt and nut held and never became loose and it was very quick to replace the plastic...thanks for asking. Mad Mike
@@SweetScoots that's what I was assuming, rivets seemed like a great idea for a couple seconds lol, thanks for the response I'll definitely be using your method in the future!
Well, in my 40 years of owning bikes and the hundreds of guys and gals that I know that own bikes, never ever have I or them had an over-heating problem because we shined our bikes up to a beautiful, classy chrome finish. If you are relying on a slightly rough surface on your jug fins to keep your bike from over-heating, then you have bigger problems than that my friend. The only reason those jug fins are not shiny and smooth from the factory is because they are not usually buffed to a shiny finish on lower end bikes. Every custom bike I have ever bought has had beautifully shined fins all the way up to 124ci El Bruto motors, never have I had an over-heating issue, ever, even here in Florida. Thanks, have a great day. mad Mike

Thanks Ray! You can use this on spokes, just wrap these amzn.to/2yP98Cw around the end of it and just start sliding it up and down my friend (no pun intended :) ) LOL Thanks for the view, have a fantastic week. mad Mike
Nice!! Thank you for the tip 👍

Hey Brother, I've got an 89 FXRS with a natural finish S&S 96.. if I polish it like this will it take it, or still be dull?
If it's aluminum and dull, it will shine it. Thanks for watching, have a great day. mad Mike
Thank you sir, that's Awesome
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the view and comment, have a great week my friend. mad Mike
Good video. Anyone try using Pop Rivets instead of Bolts
The reason we use bolts is because we know most people don't have a rivet gun, but that is a really good idea. The other issue with rivets is with the constant vibration we've had them shake loose and the other reason to use bolts is because it's easier to change out the plastic when needed. Thanks for the view and comment, have a great week. mad Mike
Nice! I’m doing this
Have fun! You will love the results my friend. Thanks for the view, have a fantastic day. mad Mike Sweet Scoots
that's an awsome idea. thanks..
Thank you we truly appreciate that I have an awesome day and merry Christmas mad Mike
SWEET and Smart!!!
Thank you very much, glad to help! Thanks for the view and comment, have a great week my friend.
Have a great day. mad Mike
Briliant, thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the view and comment, have a great week my friend. mad Mike

Thank you very much we truly appreciate that makes all our hard work worth it have a great day ride safe mad Mike
I can’t seem to find the link to the white and clear lexan and pbc that was drilled then used for the polishing could you provide that for me any chance ?
Well Gavin this may help amzn.to/3HqCPKl and amzn.to/3SsQjf7 thanks for asking Mad mike
Just curious on what the thickness is of the lexan or PVC you use is that 1/8" or 1/4" thick.
Anyway I appreciate the info thanks
do you mean you use the same mothers formulations for aluminium, and paint for cutting back?
This amzn.to/48D2SdE is all we use on everything and have for years with the BEST results. Everything else out there is just fluff. Thanks for the view, have a great week my friend. mad Mike
Thanks again for the tip, Tom! We appreciate the view and comment, have a great week. mad Mike
Wery nice trick Thanks

Question: Is there a clear coat on stock Rocker Boxes or are they just good chrome?
Top of the mornin to you Wicklow, from one Irishman to another! God bless
The bolts could be done using small stainless wire brush fixed to the blade in the same fashion perhaps?
Sounds good kevin! Sometimes you just gotta get creative. Thanks for watching and sharing, we appreciate the input, have a fantastic week my friend. mad Mike

Bright motor and wheels so much nicer than the current tragic trend of fugly black everything
I’m with you it takes a lot of effort to keep your stuff shiny and I think our society is slowly getting extremely lazy so let’s just paint everything flat black lol thanks for the comment my friend mad Mike
Fantastic !
Glad you like it! Thanks for the view and comment Jim, hope you have a great weekend. mad Mike
Do you think rivets would hold up to the vibrations?
Sorry for the late reply, we tried rivets but with the constant vibration the plastic became loose and it was more of a pain to replace the plastic...the bolt and nut held and never became loose and it was very quick to replace the plastic...thanks for asking. Mad Mike
@@SweetScoots that's what I was assuming, rivets seemed like a great idea for a couple seconds lol, thanks for the response I'll definitely be using your method in the future!
Very cool!

A polished surface is less efficient at dispersing heat than a rough surface because a rough surface has more surface area
Thanks, have a great day. mad Mike
@@SweetScoots I got my facts mixed up , not polishing but chroming will have an effect on engine heat and more in cars

The best finish for engine cooling fins is a rough sand blast finish.
We have noticed no difference in the many many many years we have done this in temperatures or running condition of the many many many bikes we have done this too have a great day my friend merry Christmas
@@SweetScoots nothing like experience
John I just want you to know I was not saying that to be a know it all by any means I just wanted you to know my friend that we have noticed no difference in cooling either way.. Peace!
