Thanks a lot, I am doing some administrative work and did not even know there WAS a steel wool. This helped me a lot and also saved me a couple of hunderd for chemically getting rid of the whole chrome surface and letting all the wheels go through some expensive restoration procedure.
I bought the Noxon and The 0000 wool and it left my chrome rims looking brand new! They had lots of oxidation and that stuff got rid of it. Thanks man. I just subscribed.
This tip worked AWESOME!
took less than 4 minutes per wheel. The steel wool did not scratch my wheels. Took very little elbow grease.
Superb video ! Who would have ever even heard of Noxon if not for this video ! Thanks for clear, concise and helpful videos ! Super !
Thanks, I tried the Noxon and "0000" steel wool on my bikes chrome, it came out beautiful. Thanks again.
thanks for the feedback.
I'm glad you also threw in the tip about what noxon can do to clear coat if the rims that are being restored had it.
Thanks for the video. Bought a 2001 vette a bout a year ago. Was a daily driver but well kept. The ZO6 wheels had a little wear in the angles and tried several products but not a clean as I wanted. Tried the Noxon today, didnt even use the steel wool, and they came out great. Lots of oxidation and surface rust came of on the micro rags with just elbow grease. Very happy, thank you for the advice.
Nobody cares
works great also the green side of the sponge to clean dishes also works
Used this method and it came out amazing!!
They sell that stuff at Walgreens too. And Sears. FYI. Thanks for the info i am going to get some of it today.
Based on what I saw in the video and what many people are saying in the comments I can't wait to try this method thanks for the video I appreciate the instructions. And the info on the noxon Polish
I used this method on the hood of my neighbors car. Looks friggin Fantastic. I'm 100 feet away look down from my window and I can see it clearly. Oh he just noticed it. Omg! He is beyond surprised! Thank you
Did this yesterday had pretty bad looking chrome rims, years of mistreatment. Came out beautiful and hardly had to use any elbow grease. Amazing how the steel wool just wiped everything right off. 1 hour later Im pretty damn impressed! Don't forget to spray rims after application and wipe dry with a clean microfiber towel.
Did not even come close to removing the spots on my rims.
Great video. I have 22s and these are the perfect products to use to bring out the shine in them.
William Wrex Yes they work great, everyone noticed these wheels and made comments about them after I finished cleaning them. Thanks for watching.
OMG!!! I have been looking for this. Thank you.
Spent my day looking for this stuff, came home and applied on my wheels and motorcycle. Thank you for the video!
Great product suggestion
would this work for the stock rims on a 96 impala ?
I achieve the exact same results with 0000 steel wool by itself for years now. I never have a problem with water spots,... The steel wool will take them right off.
Good video just the same.
Also, for anyone that wanna know if their rim has a clear coat. Take that 0000 steel wool and very lightly wipe a 1 inch area on the rim. 1 wipe ! Take a flash light and see if you can see very fine scratch marks. If you can your rims has clear coat on them. Even the steel wool will dull them out.
Hey bro, what is clear coat and how do I restore that? Maybe a sort of wax treatment after? I'm restoring harley chrome and it's very very delicate under a torch. Steel wool, metal polish, all scratches the gloss layer. Silver polish is pretty good but a dry finish.
"Not going to go away without a fight!" Great line!
I always like these tutorials. He makes sure to let you know what he is doing and doesn't mislead you so you think you can take rim that is badly damaged and simply polish it. He makes sure in all his lessons that things can get very good but only as good as the steps you take. In other words he does not show you a scratch removing polish the shows you a badly scratched car then shows you the now painted car and tells you he just polished it. Why am I babbling all thi? Wtf
Ur prob high
what do you recommend for clear coat, example i have a little bit of black polish not mat on my rims.
Really useful video❤
Is there any water used at all during the process? Is the steel wool and rim dry other than noxon?
Just bought vette wheels and they were pretty messed up I tried this and they came out great, great video helped a lot
Garrett Jeffers were ur rims pitted @ all...
I use steel wool all the time it works great I don't know how it would scratch some people's rims you can even clean your windshield with it
Awesome dude!!!!
Thanks
OMG! I thought there was no help in cleaning chrome wheels or parts. I figured since all of the cleaners from the auto parts stores didn't work this would be the same. I WAS WRONG! Worked just as this guy explained.
WARNING! This cream has a very strong smell and I recommend applying this outdoors. Good job guys!
How can I tell if my wheels are clear coated or not? Great video 👍
nice trick man and the rim looks like new
thanks
gonz garr Thanks, yes they got quite the shine on them now.
Fantastic , thank you ...
+JOGO np, glad you liked it. cheers
Wow what a huge difference
good Video!
Could you use pledge metal polish?
I liked the job it done on the wheels making them look like new again.
Derrick Ward yes, they got quite a shine on them. thanks for watching.
Ratchets And Wrenches how do I know if my rims have clear coat on them?
I use Meguiars Ultimate Compound (liquid) and #0000 steel wool and it works great.
@Anthony Gates Not sure never ran into that situation before.
@Anthony Gates Sure, try a polish maybe with a buffer see if that helps
@Anthony Gates no problem
@Anthony Gates Awesome good to hear
What can I use to remove clear coat on chrome rims? Steel whool?
Can i just use a micro with the polish ? Steel wool sounds like a bad idea
I definitely want to give this a try, but first is there a way to tell if my rims have been clear coated?
Don't do it on clear coat.
Nice job.
ty.
This work great
trying this tomorrow on my trucks wheels I'll post a video.
thanks for the info bro! great video
how'd it go?
+KK Woolsey
I didn't the time like I'd planned, so no video.
I did take before and after shots, that I'm gonna post.
turned out great, but wanna do a second attempt to do away with the slight pitting in the deep contour sections.
I'll video that part for sure
gshffr for sure.. good luck brother
gshffr Did you ever post that video?
Jan Romanosky , no. i backed over my phone a week after i recorded the process.
i can tell you it worked great though.
when the weather finally breaks here in PA, ill be doing it again as the road salt has been harsh on my wheels this winter.
ill be sure to make another video and post it right away this time.
Is there a substitute for Noxon? It seems to be out of business and no longer sold.
You don't even need the Noxon. Just the quadruple aught steel wool and water works perfectly fine (maybe a couple of drops of Dawn detergent in the water).
so, once a year treatment ?
Thanks
Well I’m going To Get Some Noxon And Use It To Hopefully Bring Back My Classic 69 Chevys Chrome Bumpers
Let us know how it went.
Looks like show room shine ✨ I’m going to were sunglasses 😎
What's the name of the stuff you used for the rims to get the rust off
Noxon
Young Chino Moreno using elbow grease!
After cleaning, would you recommend waxing the wheels?
Some people complain that wax traps moisture that can damage chrome. I personally don't have long term experience using wax on chrome but seriously doubt it can be harmful.
what kinda product should i use if my wheels are painted?
Medium-fine automotive polish.
60 grit sandpaper and elmers glue
would it clean off water marks on black aluminium rims?
Your rims are anodized, the color is a product of the aluminum itself. You can make a paste out of baking soda and water and let it soak with that on it for an hour. If that doesn't work and you don't mind turning them back to natural silver color, a soak in Drano will strip everything off it.
I'm surprised the steel wool didn't scratch up the rim finish!
Should have used the steel wool with the simple green also. Probably would have cleaned the wheel just as well because the most effective tool in this video is the steel wool.
No, I have tried a lot of products from the auto parts store including simple green and it didn't do the same. This chemical is very acidic and the smell is very strong. I believe if left on your hands too long you will have a chemical burn.
nice
What else can I use besides the steelwool ?
Foil paper
OK, but what do you use to protect your new shiny metal?
Wax
What about discoloration chrome rim
if waterspots on gloss black insert rims
Almost broke my speakers OW!! when you were CLOSE to the microphone. When you were further away your volume was too low. You should be wearing a lapel mic so that the volume remains the same no matter your location.
Who gives a damn,
Really??
Give me a break?
People will complain about any damn thing.
Cool
Josh!!!
Is this product discontinued? I see some on Amazon but it’s crazy expensive! Any other alternatives?
Yes, looking for a substitute
Will it scratch my chrome
It's not clear in the video - the stuff is called NOXON.
My local Menards had over 10 if them in stock.
Who is mynards?
Some people need to stfu watched the whole video and start hating geesh thanks for the information 👌
Noxon is no longer being manufactured. You can't find it anywhere except eBay and at outrageous prices
Did you find an alternative?
Can I use toothpaste and a fine steelwool?
Noooo
what about of your wheels have that little peel bubble on them
TheGiftedKJ32090 RIGHT same I want to know
warm soapy water and brillo pads...
saved me $1500
I heard you can use
Aluminum foil , have you heard or tried it ?
Bow sr I haven't personally tried it, but would imagine it works well on really heavy rust on somewhat flat surfaces. Seriously doubt if it will give the nice shine Noxon and steel wool would give you though. Seem some people use a can of soda as well. I might do a follow up video comparing all these methods when I get my hands on a rusty wheel.
@@myRatchets Soda = phosphoric acid
Aluminum foil works used it on two sets of rims to restore them
So glad I wasnt wearing my earplugs listening to this vid...
What were the name of those two products
+Jose Delacruz noxon
Doesn’t it scratch the chrome ???
Not steel wool
I bought the steel wool #0000 and it scratched my chrome rims wtf
muahahahahaha
Hahaha! Either your rims arent chrome or you got the wrong steel wool. Try 000 or 00.
You did something wrong, all of my chrome came out great.
You need course steel wool, because it glides over the chrome. The finer the cut the more surface it covers.
Fake chrome brah
But does it really works
Did i see that's the Noxon was 124 dollars for a 12 oz bottle 😎
So don't use on real crome?
i guess my neighbors hear this video with me
Try Diet Coke and aluminum foil. Just throw some coke on The rim, fold your aluminum foil in a square and rub off the damage tremely cheap and excellent results.
No shit!? Lolol
@@bonnyyayoi1748 Yup true story. I didn’t believe it till I tried it. Matter fact I had forgotten about it till just now. Lol
Does it need to be Diet or will regular coke work too?
This product is sooooo expensive! Wow
I paid like $100 bucks 😅 didn’t think it was costly
its nocking of the lacker ....silly
On another note, why does this guy remind me of the who played in Sicario?
That's wheel is skin plastic chrome. Not a chrome wheel.
SoS pads
Mechanics don't clean wheels we all know that
This guy’s wrong. You should use 00 steel wool, not 0000 steel wool.
00 steel wool is too abrasive
Volume one or two at most 😂 fkn loud asf
The sound quality is terrible
Yup - should have used a lapel mic. When he was far from his camera mic, I had to turn up my speaker volume, then he moved a lot closer and almost burst my speakers!!
This did NOT work for me, it actually made my rims look more dull than shiny! I got the same steel wool and noxon!
Morgan Cox probably not chrome then bud
Probably clear-coated which he warned about...
Fkd up some aluminum wheels
ya did
Steel wool is a bad choice all around for rims or any other finish that costs or would cost someone hundreds to thousands of dollars to acquire. Yeah it's touch of rust and oxidizing rims, but you also run the risk of scratches. True chrome dip from reputable companies is generally hard enough to withstand alot of shit, I mean they are rims after all and they see more abuse, wear and tear than any other part on a vehicle. But it's still a bad idea to get into because as hard as chrome dip is, over time it does weaken and get brittle even if no signs of wear are visible. There are plenty other was to clean your rims, the main one being aluminum foil!!
lmfao you worked to hard
This work as a waxing coat thats all this video is about. i thought this video was going to be about restoring your chrome rims not waxing them to make your rims look better...
This is not wax. And he is restoring rims that have some surface contamination. If you were looking for serious pitting, heavy corrosion and other damage, this is definitely not your video. But try using the search bar and I am sure you will find something to help your troubles...
Didn't even come close to taking the spots off my wheels.
never use steel wool.
aluminum foil is way better than steel wool and it wont scratch your chrome.
what? how?
