  • TR Tony has heard a lot about this technique over recent months and given the Red Stag (UES 591S) has some pretty tired and rusty/pitted chrome bumpers on the back of the car, decides to try out the old top trick he's heard about! Tin foil and Coca Cola is apparently all that's needed!!? Well, will he prove this old rumour to be right? ....Or is it just a load of old baloney?... Watch with interest and find out the truth once and for all!

TR Tony, I have found that when you're using the metal polish (any brand) you may find it more effective to use a toothbrush rather than a cloth as it actually gets the polish itself into the pitting and it then shines even better.

Looking much better ☺️. Certainly seems to have removed the orangey coloured rust stains. The pitts will still be there, as this is where the steel of the bumper has expanded with corrosion and "erupted" through the chrome. If I had the spare cash, I'd invest in a set of stainless steel bumpers. I have seen them on a couple of Stags. They're really good, and re-chroming may well cost more than stainless.Make sure you clean those mugs well before using them!
    All the best 👍,
    Neil

I’ve also seen a guy use 1000 grade wire wool that gave it a mirror finish....

As you said, you are removing the rust but not the pitting, I'd be afraid that you are scratching the good chrome at the same time leaving a bed for worse pitting And rust in the future. I would favour a chrome paste. I went for stainless steel having seen two stags side by side at spa. You couldn't tell the difference between chrome and highly polished steel.
