The Gorillaz is the animated band (Murdoc, 2-D, Noodle and Russel). It was created by an artist (Jamie Hewlett) and musician (Damon Albarn) and the music they make features a large variety of different musicians.
When this hit MTV, it was wild especially the lead singer coming off his prior two bands The Good, The Bad and The Queen, and Blur - song 2. recommended and known for being in the old army commercials
Gorillaz Biography by Heather Phares Demon Days Gorillaz began as something of a lark for Damon Albarn, a way for the singer/songwriter to explore music his Brit-pop group Blur otherwise couldn't make. And yet, the "virtual band" he conceived with artist Jamie Hewlett in the twilight years of the 20th century turned into his main gig in the new millennium. Gorillaz's eponymous debut was an international hit right out of the gate in 2001, thanks in part to the moody, slinky smash single "Clint Eastwood." Its sunny counterpart, "Feel Good Inc.," was an even bigger hit in 2005, while its parent album, Demon Days, revealed how Albarn used Gorillaz as a way to absorb non-rock music while also addressing larger political and societal concerns, which was taken a step further with 2010's environmentally minded Plastic Beach. Hewlett's cartoon characters gave Gorillaz a patina of frivolity, and that joviality, when combined with a revolving cast of collaborators, balanced Albarn's darker moments. Guest musicians helped Gorillaz stay surprising and current -- over the years, the group recorded with Del the Funky Homosapien, De La Soul, Shaun Ryder, Mick Jones of the Clash, Lou Reed, James Murphy, André 3000, George Benson, and Elton John -- but throughout their career, Albarn remained the band's musical constant, a role made clear on their 2023 album Cracker Island, where the collaborators essentially functioned as another texture in the arrangement. The initial lineup of Gorillaz blended the musical talents of Albarn, Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori, and Tom Tom Club's Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz with the arresting visuals of Jamie Hewlett, best known as the creator of the cult comic Tank Girl. Nakamura's Deltron 3030 cohorts Kid Koala and Del the Funky Homosapien rounded out the creative team behind the Gorillaz quartet, whose virtual members included 2-D, the cute but spacy singer/keyboardist; Murdoc, the spooky, possibly Satanic bassist and the brains behind the group; Russel, a drummer equally inspired by "Farrakhan and Chaka Khan" and possessed by "funkyphantoms" that occasionally rise up and provide some zombie-style rapping; and last but not least, Noodle, a ten-year-old Japanese guitar virtuosa and martial arts master. The group's website showcased Hewlett's visuals and the group's music in eye- and ear-catching detail. Tomorrow Comes Today Gorillaz debuted in late 2000 with the Tomorrow Comes Today EP, which they followed early the next year with the popular Clint Eastwood single. A self-titled full-length debut album arrived in spring 2001. Gorillaz was a massive worldwide success and achieved platinum-level sales in the U.S.; worldwide, it sold over seven million copies. The group's Svengalis were quick to capitalize on that success and released the B-sides collection G-Sides, the Phase One: Celebrity Takedown DVD, and the dub-inspired remix album Laika Come Home in 2002. The project soon went on hiatus, however, as Albarn resumed work with Blur for their seventh album, 2003's Think Tank. The Grey Album When he was ready to begin the next Gorillaz album, Albarn turned to Danger Mouse (the DJ behind The Grey Album, the infamous mash-up of the Beatles' White Album and Jay-Z's Black Album) and a host of other collaborators, including De La Soul, Shaun Ryder, Debbie Harry, Dennis Hopper, and Martina Topley-Bird. Although Del the Funky Homosapien and Nakamura did not return, 2-D, Russel, Murdoc, and Noodle were all present and accounted for on Demon Days, another Top Ten hit, which arrived in spring 2005. The album went double platinum in America and enjoyed even more success in the U.K.; it also received a host of Grammy nominations, a sign that the band had secured critical as well as commercial approval. The Fall Gorillaz broke ground for a new album in 2007, but the project wasn't released until 2010, when Plastic Beach marked the group's third studio effort. Greeted to generally positive reviews, Plastic Beach received more attention for its tour, as ex-Clash members Paul Simonon and Mick Jones were both part of Gorillaz. During that tour, Albarn recorded a new Gorillaz album called The Fall on his iPad. Initially digitally released to fan club members on Christmas Day 2010, the album saw a wide official release in the spring of 2011. Unlike previous efforts that featured a vast array of guest artists, The Fall only featured four guest collaborations, three of whom (Bobby Womack, Mick Jones, and Paul Simonon) had appeared on Gorillaz tracks before. The Singles Collection 2001-2011 Aside from the best-of compilation The Singles Collection 2001-2011, which was issued in November 2011, the next five years saw a period of inactivity in the Gorillaz camp, with rumors materializing about an apparent fallout between Albarn and Hewlett. However, these rumors were put to bed in early 2015 when Hewlett posted new illustrations of the virtual members online. Later that year, Albarn confirmed that a new record was indeed in the works. The following year passed, and the first track to promote the album, the politically charged "Hallelujah Money" (featuring English musician and poet Benjamin Clementine), appeared in January 2017. The full-length effort, entitled Humanz, arrived that April. Alongside Clementine, it featured appearances from Vince Staples, Popcaan, Danny Brown, Mavis Staples, Grace Jones, Jehnny Beth (Savages), and Albarn's onetime rival Noel Gallagher. Months later, Albarn released the Humanz B-side "Garage Palace" with rapper Little Simz. To support Humanz, the band embarked on a major world tour, their second ever and first since 2010, during which they also began recording another album. Featuring fewer collaborators than usual, Gorillaz issued their sixth LP, The Now Now, in June 2018, which debuted at number five on the U.K. Albums chart and number four on the U.S. Billboard 200. Song Machine: Episode 1 In early 2020, the band began issuing a series of singles and music videos as part of a conceptual project called Song Machine. Gorillaz collected these tracks -- featuring the likes of Robert Smith, Beck, Schoolboy Q, St. Vincent, Elton John, and many more -- as the official release Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez, which appeared in October 2020. The set debuted at number two in the U.K. (their fifth Top Three effort) and number 12 in the U.S. The brief Meanwhile EP appeared in 2021. Shortly afterward, Albarn abandoned the Song Machine concept. After recording "Tormenta," a collaboration with Bad Bunny, Albarn channeled his energy toward Cracker Island, an album co-produced by Albarn, Greg Kurstin, and Remi Kabaka. A brisk, streamlined record that emphasized Gorillaz's melodic and rhythmic strengths, Cracker Island featured contributions by Thundercat, Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, and Beck and was nominated for Best Alternative Album at the Grammy Awards.
So the singer of the Gorillaz and his roommate came up with the band together. They both had other projects the singer had a band "Blur" (also great to chill to.) Thee roommate an artist has a comic book (Tank Girl... It's also a movie.) the animation is his art style.
This whole album “Demon Days” is 🔥crazy to think that this band is basically just one person, Damon Albarn. Hes from another band called Blur, They got a few hits too. Gorillaz had different touring/studio musicians thru out each album.
Speaking of *De La Soul* YOU NEED TO react to these songs of theirs *Baby Phat* - *All Good* - *The Bizness* featuring Common - *Much More* - *Shopping Bags*
If you want to see who is behind Gorillaz look up Blur - Song 2. THEY are Gorillaz. Gorillaz is a collab between them and artist Jamie Hewlett of Tank Girl.
I highly recommend The Warning, they are a rock band of 3 sisters from Mexico with 60 songs on 4 albums and 1 EP (all songs are English except 3). I recommend checking out any of the songs from The Pepsi Center but Dust To Dust/Dull Knives is a good start because you get lead vocals from both Dany (guitarist) and Pau (drummer). They are currently nominated for a Latin Grammy and were recently Billboards #1 new artists.
I know you’ll get to it but friendly reminder I think you’ll love “Mother” by Danzig. Also one of my favorite guitar performances of all time is “Texas Flood” by Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at El Mocambo. Keep up the good work
the band only exists animated. they are not real as such. the "voice" behind them is Damon Albarn. Former Blur singer. most songs have guest appearances like De La Soul in this one
Nice!!! Gorillaz are so good! Gorillaz were formed out of the remains of the band Blur. Song 2 is the band biggest single before The Gorillaz emerged, but yeah check out Blur - Song 2
Dare by the GORILLAZ was the biggest hit back in the day and also had one hell of a lot of air time, Did you know that the Gorillaz were entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band.
Fun fact for you. Damon Albarn the singer songwriter from Gorillaz, as well as being singer songwriter from Blur is also good friends with the artist Banksy. Maybe you’ve heard of Banksy? 🤷🏻♂️ Banksy designed Blur’s artwork for their Think Tank album and singles from that same album.
They have guest singers in a lot of there songs. Listen to Clint Eastward , Dirty Harry & Dare Yes all there vids are animated, they are an animated band, they never appear live together, instead they have 3D projections of there characters on stage
Another great reaction. I'm from Minnesota. Let's get some Prince. "Let's Go Crazy" would be a good choice, as would his version of "Motherless Child". Let's get some Prince.
Ok at least i know it wasnt just me but as soon as you said i heard this before then you were like never mind i havent heard this i definitely havent jeard this. I knew it was just me. I always felt like they were super underrated they have such chill flow with trippy music videos. But the sound was always very familiar and also very unique at the same time which throws you off. You would easily be like ive heard this before but the more you listen your start to thinking maybe i havent this. You slowly but surely end with why does this sound so familiar. Even when they first came out it felt like that. Not just this song either. Clint Eastwood was what pulled me in. The flow felt familiar and also felt super unique somehow it also makes you feel like i heard this somewhere before. The more you listen to it the less sure about that you feel. Its like a gimmick beat turned into a track or something. Lol
You should definitely do El Mañana next, it a continuation of the Feel Good Inc. video. The original video was taken down for unknown reasons, but there’s a few reuploads still on UA-cam available.
Love the bass and Gorillaz. Try the song Clint Eastwood and DARE. This is considered Alt rock and one of the founders is from a famous 90’s Brit Pop rock band Blur. The rappers are De La Soul, NYC icons. Gorillaz are all Animated and there’s an entire lore and story of the band members
To answer your question the group Gorillaz, similar to MF Doom focused on the music being the star not them. They used the animated characters as their representations and avoid personal scrutiny from the public. The rappers are De La Soul legends in the rap game.
This is not my personal cup of tea but I am glad you like them ❤ Just here to keep plugging away my recommendations!! Lol LED ZEPPELIN, they are going to be one of your new favorites🥰 Another one I think you would find interesting is The Jeff Healey Band. He is a blind singer and guitarist. Hope you enjoy my recommendations, because I have nothing but love for you ❤❤❤❤❤
The Gorillaz are only two members. The person who plays main singer in the song and the illustrator who draws and animates it. Everyone is else are guest artists. The gorillazs exist purely the allow experimentalism in music. How they can change the sound and voices without breaking the look of the band. So it isn’t defined by genres and actively tries to break them and meld them. If you’re looking for songs from your childhood. Try Clint Eastwood, Dare, Melancholy Hill or Dirty Harry
You maybe thinking of - Clint Eastwood, Gorillaz. Like another user pointed out, the rapper: De La Seoul, is not "the band". From my understanding, they have never shown themselves to the mass public, even at their concerts (its just a big TV screen w/ this anime). Speaking of memories, this song brang back some for me: under the influence of who knows what in some chicks garage w/ an old home boy making awkward dance moves because we couldn't help it while this was playing. Hope you are alive, free from addiction, and in good health George; take care.
Their videos are animated because they're a "fake band", created by a real musician (the frontman of Blur) and a comic book artist (the creator of Tank Girl). The members of the band are fictional characters, and they exist in concept as a kind of commentary on manufactured pop music. I'm not sure they can be pinned down to one genre, but at this point they were definitely heavily hip hop-influenced, with De La Soul being guest artists on this track. Their first big hit was "Clint Eastwood", and it featured guest vocals by Del The Funky Homosapien and production by Dan the Automator, both of whom were part of Deltron 3030 along with DJ Kid Koala. The name Gorillaz may or may not be inspired by The Monkees, another "fake" band, which was created for a TV show in the 1960s and then pretty much became a real band. That's just speculation on my part, though.

I absolutely love Gorillaz! They are one of my favorite non metal bands. Their music is all so good, and just great to just chill and vibe to. Their entire discography is fantastic! Great video!

The band don't exist, they are a virtual band of contributors and exist on the interwebs.
😂 the band is Damon Albarn, singer songwriter who plays all instruments and Jamie Hewlett the artist. They have featured singers and rappers on the tracks.
