It’s kind of funny to me that Feel Good Inc has become their signature song when I think of Clint Eastwood as their breakout hit and it was very big at the time. 19-2000 is a banger too
I feel like the fact that Clint eastwood and 19-2000 came out just a few years before social media platforms were a big thing has something to do with it. If you think about it things like Twitter, Facebook and UA-cam became a thing on the mid 2000s, just when Feel good inc released, so i think it was just perfect timing for it to make a big impression, and still a bit more fresh for the newer generation too.
The fact that Del the Funky Homosapien begrudgingly wrote his verse in less than 30 min on his way out the door after given a very vague explanation of what the themes were ONLY because he was a comic book nerd and loved Jamie Hewlett's artwork is LEGENDARY. After learning that the beat is a God damn preset and Del the Funky Homosapien's literal effortlessness makes this song so much more amazing.
The beat has a little bit more going on than just the Omnichord preset sample, but that is indeed the driving part of it. There's also the melodica, the layered drums, the (electronic organ?) crescendo...
Del gave himself a newish name for his character in the video. He became, let me remember...Del the Funky Specter or something like that. In the universe of Gorillaz is that Del's character was part of Russell's gang but was killed in a drive by shooting like most of Russell's gang and they haunt him...litterly.
The best part of this song is that they just randomly found the beat as a preset on an electric keyboard from back in the day. If I remember correctly, the preset is titled "Rock beat 1."
The guy who created the characters and animations is Jamie Hewlett, who founded Gorillaz together with Damon Albarn. He is also the creator of the fantastic comic series 'Tank Girl' and one of the greatest illustrators and comic artists imo.
The entirety of the Gorillaz "Demon Days" and "Song Machine: Season One" albums are wacky masterpieces. Also, their track with Andre 3000 is a 13 minute fever dream and it's *incredible*
Del Tha Funky Homosapien is the rapper on this track. There's just something about his delivery that makes him my favourite rapper. Loved your reaction Aileen, I recommend On Melancholy Hill as the next Gorillaz song!

Oh man, Gorillaz! takes me back to my highschool days. I think you'll find something good on any of their albums, but I'd recommend Melancholy Hill, Stylo, DARE, Silent Running, Humility and the list goes on. Plenty of good stuff there.
almost each of their songs are different, even if they have periods where they change completely their style, i suggest reacting to "on melancholy hill", "DARE", "Dirty harry", "19-2000", "stylo", and "saturn barnz" and "humility" from their "comeback" album
Took me a long time since it's debut to even notice 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly' in Clint Eastwood. After so many years, I still love both the song and its MV. Also, for all the different rappers and verses that have since come and gone, the original from Del the Funky Homosapien remains the best.
I'm sure the ongoing beat (drums & keyboard) and harmonica are from one of Clint Eastwood'more lighthearted westerns - possibly Two Mules For Sister Sarah?
By the way the line "I got sunshine in my bag" is a quote from the movie as well said by "Blondie/Clint Eastwood" refering to his saddlebag filled with gold. That quote became later a slang for "I got marijuana in my bag"
Fun thing about Gorillaz is, that they are not a band in the traditional way. They basically just consist of the singer from Blur and the artist who draws these characters. Everything else is a collaboration with several other famous artists. The characters seen in this video however, are a virtual band with their own lore and history, which itself is a complete other rabbit hole worth diving into.
This is such a chill song - album-version keeps it going at the end, with the bass-line just going and going and going, to just let you groove - the scratching keeps going, etc - (music video includes a small bit of it)
I’ve been listening to Gorillaz for as long as I can remember. They’re in my top 5 favorite bands. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are the masterminds behind the band and their looks, Damon was also the lead singer of Blur and Jamie is behind the comic and movie adaptation of Tank Girl. If you’re looking to do a deep dive into them it’s totally worth it.
Its always crazy watching this and seeing where the band went. The fact their animated and we got to watch noodle grow up from video to video and their weird relationships is just cool.
GET THE COOL SHOE SHINE! ("19-200" was the first Gorillaz song I've heard and my favorite up to this day. "Clint Eastwood" is second, while "Dare" and "Feelgood Inc." come close)
This song that you reacted to was there first song that went mainstream before Feel Good Inc. Other songs from the same album were "19-2000" and "Rock the House" and US exclusive "Dracula". Other great tracks are "DARE (a must listen), Dirty Harry, Stylo, On Melancholy Hill & Doncamatic". Have fun listening.
I discovered the song one night on MTV in 2000 years. I liked the clip and the style. 1 month later the album in cd was in my turntable- Excellent album👍
So happy you got around to this band, especially this song after so long! These guys are definitely such a nice nostalgia trip from way back when listening to these guys in elementary school. Also, I love how the video lights up your face at 1:50 and you can see the actual video in your eyes 😭"World is ending, no big deal" thats a mood 💅I'd love to see you react to On Melancholy Hill by them as well one of these days!
I have known and loved this since it came out but I found out something new within just the last week thanks to a YT short. The main riff for this track is from an instrument called a Sony Omnichord and it is actually a PRESET, specifically Rock Preset ONE Literally one button press and BOOM, instant classic!! 🤣🤣🤣 The music is the work of Blur frontman and Indie legend Damon Albarn and the artwork is by Jamie Hewlett, the Tank Girl artist.
I remember the first time I heard a Gorillaz song, I was in a hotel in another country from my own, it was really late and I was in the bed, in and out of conciousness, really sleepy. The next morning I was asking all the people I traveled with if they heard the song because I didn't know if it was real or I dreamt it.
This came out in a time when we would sit and watch music videos on the box or mtv. This song was massive when it came out, the beat, the vocals, the rap and the video in a way was revolutionary as no one did what they did
Gorillaz have such a mega catalog of songs to listen to. But I would highly recommend reacting to New Gold ft Tame Imapla. Such a soothing and hypnotic track
Clinton Eastwood this song brings me back im happily im feeling glad is such a catchy hook then the twist the dark spirit just trying to tempt you is so great!
This man was so talented, he pressed play on the Rock 1 preset on a toy and was done. Meanwhile he didn’t even know the rapper, according to Del someone else had been asked to do the rap (I assume the G sides version) and then it didn’t work out so he was approached, but was so uninvolved that he didn’t even get told when the song was released. My sarcasm is masking that I absolutely love this song and the Gorrilaz, but it does have a few interesting quirks about how it was made.
Gorillaz is probably one of my favorite bands. I love that they have the animated characters age over the years as well instead of always staying the same.
I was in high school when this album came out. I was at a shop that always put new release CDs on for a special price on release weekend...and I just happened to have some money burning a hole in my pocket, saw the album cover and thought huh...that looks neat. I'll buy it. Best decision ever.
And you should definitely check out some of their more recent stuff - Momentary Bliss and Désolé are both crazy good, and crazy different from each other
the comic book artist Jamie Hewlett is one of the founding members of "the band" outside the Gorillaz project he is best known for his work in the British comic 2000AD and Tank Girl
Ha! I use the phrase "everyone and their mothers" all the time. Don;t hear it too often otherwise, so that made me chuckle. :D For your next Gorillaz track, I suggest hitting up "19-2000 (Soulchild Remix)". It's one of those rare cases where the remix is actually a lot better than then the original album cut.
They're one of my favorites because their style is all over the place. The blending of different styles and artists is amazing. El Manana off Demon Days is probably my favorite. Or Melocoly Hill off Plastic Beach
This is actually my favorite Gorillaz song. Reminds me of high school lol. It's on one of my main playlists and I still listen to it pretty frequently. THIS was the most famous and iconic song of theirs before Feel Good Inc came out. And Idk if you caught the Micheal Jackson shout out there or not either.
Fun fact: The rap vocals was done by Del the Funky Homosapien (He collabs with two song on their debut album. This and "Rock the House ") and is best known for these, his group Deltron 3030, (which also had Dan the Automator the drummer for the Gorillaz and Kid Koala) and him being Ice Cube's cousin. As for their art style it is drawn by James Hewlett. best know for being the creator of the comic Tank Girl. Also 2D is sung by Damon Albarn from the band Blur
ah one of my favourite bands. They fall in that "I cant recommend you 1 song because they have like 5 different directions they song take at least" group they really are one very creative project and idea that has made some amazing songs. My favourite being On Melancholy hill, that one just makes you feel so good BTW the "that its all in your head part" in this song, if you take off your headphones you wont be able to hear it, the joke being that its all in your head😅. very subtle yet creative detail Edit: also some songs have videos of Murdoc narrating and explaining them, this one in particular has it, if you are interested in hearing that its really funny

Anyone who's a fan of the greatest actor/movie genre is an artist I can get behind. Amazingly diverse and innovative artist or, should I say, artist collective. Keep 'em coming.
Such a diverse and interesting catalogue to dive into 😊👍 I suggest Revolving Doors, Rhinestone Eyes or Stylo next. I expect you will do DARE, Dirty Harry or 19-2000, though 😉😄
I woke up one morning and this was playing on VHI - yeah, that long ago and I'm that old - and I immediately loved it. I couldn't quite figure out why I took to it so instantly until like a day or two later when I was like "Ohhhhhh, that's mf'ing Damon Albarn from one of my favorite bands, Blur, singing and putting this together!!!!" He's a legend.
Basically ALL the hot songs from Gorillaz are AMAAAZIIING. They also released soo many stand out hit tracks during the Covid Lockdown as well I can’t recommend enough. Would loooove to see more first time Gorillaz reactions when you get the chance. There are soo many you just want to binge, even though you sometimes feel like you just need time to process the little deals and how great each one is.😁 ⭐️
This is the first song I remember like ever, I have a very specific memory of this song playing on the TV in a gym my dad was working on (he used to take me while he did building stuff) and I used to sit on the gym bikes listening to this on repeat must have been about 4 or 5. Anyway, what a song
I found you through your NF reactions. I am way too empathetic to watch those because not only has NF effected my life but watching you break down makes me break down.... but I'm glad I am here and subbed
Pretty cool to see someone so much younger experience their premiere video. This was America's intro to Gorillaz and what made me an instant fan. I recorded the video onto a VHS tape that, I swear, I wore the hell out watching and re-watching over and over again. Edit: To inform you, the art is by Tank Girl artist Jamie Hewlett. He's also the co-creator of the band with Damon Albarn, lead singer of Blur and the voice of 2D. You REALLY should dive into more of their music. Personal recommendations: Saturnz Barz, Cracker Island, Latin Simone (either the original or the English version), El Manana, Melancholy Hill, Humility, and Pac-Man, just to name a few.
The rapper is the ghost of the slane bestfriend of the drummer (Russell) that possessed him to rap on his on this song. Thats actually what the rap verse was about, kinda talking about the world but also telling russell he's still with him he'll guid and protect him
First time I hear this was back in my 20s tripping on acid out in nowhere looking up that the milkyway and a few comets dashing in&out. It was a trip. Love this song.
Del was God to those in the know, and proved it by just writing this mostly off-handedly, not ever having heard the song; only the beat, and put out one of the most iconic flows in a song ever. Loved him before, continue to love him. Now if Gorillaz would get together with "Childish Gambino" or Genesis Owusu... 🤤
'On Melancholy Hill' and 'Stylo' are worth a watch for the videos alone... 'Melconcholy Hill' is a great song too. '19 2000 Soulchild Remix' is a good listen too.
I'd definitely recommend 19-2000, and Dare is pretty crazy... but one that I really love is El Manana, which I would suggest that you watch paired with the video for Feel Good Inc. Like, even if you know the song, if you haven't watched the video, you need that in your life.
Fun fact about this song that I didn't see anyone posting, is that the line after 'remember' can't be heard I'd you are using only one speaker. It cancels out, and when this came out most TVs only had one speaker and the common way of having two was headphones. The line in question? 'That it's all in your head'.
It’s kind of funny to me that Feel Good Inc has become their signature song when I think of Clint Eastwood as their breakout hit and it was very big at the time. 19-2000 is a banger too
Yes it's really strange Feel Good becoming their signature song. At the time Clint Eastwood was a much larger hit.

For me Melancholy Hill would have to be their signature song.
Feel Good has a broader appeal, I believe. The beat has more energy.
Del is awesome... would love to see a Deltron 3030 reaction
He’s why I got into Heiroglyphics then Souls of mischief then Tribe
Gorillaz started on Delton 3030 lol
Del gave himself a newish name for his character in the video. He became, let me remember...Del the Funky Specter or something like that.
In the universe of Gorillaz is that Del's character was part of Russell's gang but was killed in a drive by shooting like most of Russell's gang and they haunt him...litterly.
Gorillaz is my fav artist. My fav song is ofc feel good inc but. el mañana on a dark winter night when im all alone just hitts diffrent
The best part of this song is that they just randomly found the beat as a preset on an electric keyboard from back in the day. If I remember correctly, the preset is titled "Rock beat 1."
Suzuki Omnichord OM-300: Rock 1
I had one of those as a teeanger. Takes me back each time I hear the song :D

Even better, not just the drums but the keyboards as well for that section were both presets on the same keyboard

Also, their track with Andre 3000 is a 13 minute fever dream and it's *incredible*
The track is “Do Ya Thing”, and Andre 3000 is swinging for the fences in that one.

The rapper is named 'Del tha funky homosapian'. He is one of the most underrated rappers of all time IMO.
This tune has always been ridiculously cool.
Such a diverse and interesting catalogue to dive into 😊👍
I suggest Revolving Doors, Rhinestone Eyes or Stylo next.
I expect you will do DARE, Dirty Harry or 19-2000, though 😉😄
I've played Revolving Doors on repeat for weeks lol
This Groove is classic.. if you dont want to shuffle your feet when this comes on, youre dead inside...
Oooooh. HOpe you go down this rabbit hole…. So many great tracks.
That silent part says “that it’s all in your head” and I swear to go that you can only hear it when you’re listening to it on your own music app
You can only hear it properly with headphones or stereo speakers. You can't hear it on a phone with a mono speaker.
A classic.
Rocked out to this song during tough times hahaha.
This song is in my Bonfire playlist.
Tomorrow comes today is the best gorillaz song in my opinion it’s very slow paced but I get goosebumps every time I hear it
Also 2-d before The Gorillaz had another band in the 90's that had a hit. The band was called Blur and their song was Song 2.
'On Melancholy Hill' and 'Stylo' are worth a watch for the videos alone... 'Melconcholy Hill' is a great song too. '19 2000 Soulchild Remix' is a good listen too.
To me this track is real unique. It’s like electronic animated alternative hip-hop.
*Feel Good* had RAPPING in it to by *De La Soul*
I'd definitely recommend 19-2000, and Dare is pretty crazy... but one that I really love is El Manana, which I would suggest that you watch paired with the video for Feel Good Inc. Like, even if you know the song, if you haven't watched the video, you need that in your life.
Sweet! Stylo is a great one to drive to if you like another great one. Your reactions and music journey is fun to behold.
This song is made from presets in a keyboard 😅 theres some funny short about it
Jamie Hewlett did the art and was also involved with Tank Girl and you can see his art style in both projects.
May I suggest Saturnz Barz by Gorillaz? that's a whole different box to unpack (with an even greater bass line, if I dare say so!)
Dare 👍🏻
Feel good inc for me such a groove
Fun fact about this song that I didn't see anyone posting, is that the line after 'remember' can't be heard I'd you are using only one speaker. It cancels out, and when this came out most TVs only had one speaker and the common way of having two was headphones.
The line in question? 'That it's all in your head'.
