I am 70 years old, and was so appreciative of the clothing that I wore from Loro Piana. I felt it was the only brand left that offered timeless clothing and unsurpassed quality. I never thought of it as luxury, but rather this is how clothing should be. Luxury is a term that upsets me because, what used to be the norm in the past is now called luxury and and people who want quality have to pay dearly for it, and put a label on it. Luxury! Unfortunately
In the old days we appreciated the coat we bought, and wore it for years. Now days there are trends in fashion and people follow the trends and now a days the trends are too creative to be real clothes, they can’t be worn, they are so strange. So when we find a brand that produces real clothes, that work and you can live in, they want to commercialize it. It’s going to compete with brands like Chanel and LV. It’s upsetting.
Like many others I lament and resent these family owned, loved and carefully nurtured institutions with hundreds of years of tradition being turned into a ‘label’ and given the LVMH treatment that ultimately homogenises the industry in the search for relentless growth and market domination. The quiet luxury market - those who truly value craftsmanship over labelling - will /are undoubtedly turning quietly away.
I really think quiet or non quiet is a matter of taste, not exactly the true wealth. True, new wealth usually likes to showcase their wealth, but some people from old school sometimes just like the brand as it has been existed hundred years, stamp or no stamp.
This is hilarious; They want their clothing to "be accessible to younger and more diverse consumers," yet every item costs thousands of dollars! I know there is highly skilled craftsmanship here, but this level of greed is unjustifiable, shameful, and quite disgusting.
This is an advertising video, probably bankrolled in advance, seen the narrator lack of criticism. In reality, the reason why I took a look to this clip was the beginning of this year scandal concerning the brand: It was reported that Loro Piana was exploiting the Peruvian community who provids their Vicuna without paying them. I didn't hear about further developments in their unfair treatment of the local laborers, and I was hoping to get some news about it in this video, especially if they were about real improvements in paying them, FAIRLY. I remember the audience that a Loro Piana vicuna sweaters cost(ed) 9000 euros, and if this firm didn't pay the shepherds, AT ALL. Can you tell us something about this disheartenining exploitation of an entire community? ...Yes, I bought once a magnificent sweater from them: it was really really beautiful and really expensive, so I destined it for the winter family reunions, even if I m feeling a bit insecure about its costs at moral level. Still I was reassured by the idea I will wear it some more times (= years). Now that I m aware about the Andean scandal I m not feeling comfortable wearing it anymore. Same sensation I got with Dior accessories...
As a long customer. That minute the word diverse is bad sign. Sign it going to mess up. Similar to EZegna combining Ermenegildo Zegna & Z Zegna. Imagine have to walk and feel fabric no longer able to order from catalogue being assured of good fabric. Imagine polo sport Ralph Lauren and purple label going under one banner.
I would say that is a very difficult situation to balance...yes they need to diversify but yet keep the aesthetic... probably change or revise / alter the logo a lil bit. To tap into younger market
I have a few LP products most of it came before the buy out. I feel like these heritage products will resemble Tom Ford Gucci Era in a decade and became sought after as what LP traditionally resembled. I’m hoping they don’t trash the brand for example Burberry has great heritage but in recent years has had bad reputation.
If you want to survive you have to follow the money. And this is what they are doing. The same with Brunello. Both now offer some subtle branding. Both expanding their assortments. New money now prevailing and are more ready to pay such prices. Anyway, they still offer unbranded goods of highest quality for amazingly high price. So nothing changes. Yes they have to be more accessible, modern people don't really want to fly somewhere just to buy clothing. There are many brands here and many will just buy something more readily available. And this BS about people desiring their product is just based on poor who can't afford. Rich are way over this desire, unless they're very much new money or bloggers who just need to show off.
Not owned by these companies - the werthheimers and the L’Oréal heiress along with others have taken an investment stake in The Row. The twins still own The Row but have less of a stake now in order to expand the brand into different verticals.
But that’s how we shear the lamb and get the wool, what is the difference? They are not killing the animals, they are simply shearing them. Have you seen seen a sheep or Lamas that have not been sheared for a while
So in conclusion : Bernard Arnault acquired it so now it's about huge profit and big target customer base. And since he still can't buy Hermès, he wants Loro Piana to become his Hermès.
This brand is terribly cruel to animals. How do those poor vicunas survive after all the stress of catching, woonds and inflammations from shaving? Everyone who loves animals would boycot this company.
I don't like the successful Bale handbag it's still stodgy looking. Nor do I think they will attract a younger more contemporary buyer. Their look even if contemporary doesn't look with it or cool. They just can't do it. And if I was a wealthy privileged buyer I would not be happy about the change.
Dear lord ! I would have to go in there blind folded and hand cuffed. . That is sensational omg. MOMCOCO is a bag shop of dreams. How can anyone want to walk out there empty handed
Just because one interprets "quiet luxury" as a negative doesn't mean that view is correct. Yet another example of ego and - lets call it for what it is - ambition of vanity over what made Loro Piana so admired and esteemed. Not everyone needs another "Visible" clothing line. Greed where there needs none is true greed indeed.

Very interesting comment. Thanks for sharing your opinion on "luxury".. you are completely correct with that

This is LVMH going after Hermes. They tried to buy Hermes but were rebuffed.
I'm beyond outrage with almost all luxury brands with their ethics with the workers. Bad capitalism would eat themselves one day.
Were getting a front seat for that moment with their $9000 sweaters
"To make Loro Piana the most desired luxury LABEL in the world" Forget the Fit, the Cut...let's just prostitute ourselves for $$$$$

Sounds more like an ad, less of a critique to me… :/
Bernard Arnault is a very vindictive, since he couldn't acquire Hermes he now trying to make Lori Piana the new Hermes.
This is the exact opposite of the Hermes long term strategy of quality and exclusivity.

They're already under one banner.
@@muffemodhe meant if they were to combine it all under one label versus having the separation of labels to determine quality and craftsmanship.
he variety of textures in the MOMCOCO pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
I would say that is a very difficult situation to balance...yes they need to diversify but yet keep the aesthetic... probably change or revise / alter the logo a lil bit. To tap into younger market

Is Loro Piana following the disastrous path that Burberrys took a while ago?
Seems so.

I like the loro piana fabrics. I have a Thomas pink blazer using their 130s wool. Their brand stuff is overrated though.
The Row will never try to appeal to a broader audience wich i think is great. Anything too accessible takes away from its charm.
the row is now owned by chanel and l’oreal paris.
@ashapande9721 they invested in it, they don't own it
Not owned by these companies - the werthheimers and the L’Oréal heiress along with others have taken an investment stake in The Row. The twins still own The Row but have less of a stake now in order to expand the brand into different verticals.
Does this industry even know what it means with „a more diverse clientele“? Every clientele is diverse.
Eh, no.... diversity means access to the product by a more extensive group customer base. 99% of people cannot buy this
there knit sweaters are gorgeous. but 5k a piece! lol
Yeah, make a circus out of everything... Victoria Secret & Budweiser already did and found out...
Well Vicky went back to her roots and most of the stuff sold out the same day as the show.
Combining elegance and luxury MOMCOCO bag!
LVMH kills the tradition and heritage of family-owned luxury houses the conglomerate acquires.
But that’s how we shear the lamb and get the wool, what is the difference? They are not killing the animals, they are simply shearing them. Have you seen seen a sheep or Lamas that have not been sheared for a while

Loro Piana has always been at discount outlets...
The poor animals slaughtered for the sake of fashion. Greed knows no bounds..
most animals are eaten for food; their pelt is just a byproduct. wool and cashmere are harvested without killing the animal.
This brand is terribly cruel to animals. How do those poor vicunas survive after all the stress of catching, woonds and inflammations from shaving? Everyone who loves animals would boycot this company.
D you ever cut your hair, if so, does it hurt? Are you exaggerating? I think they comb/brush the hair off, I don't think it gets shaved.
Discount outlets . 2000 for a jacket 😆 very outlet
Thankfully the hordes will leave the brand alone and go to their tacky favorites
you’re literally my comfort person i love you MOMCOCO bag !
Halston.
Not animal friendly. It seems luxury means not animal and environmentally friendly.
I don’t see that happening
I don't like the successful Bale handbag it's still stodgy looking. Nor do I think they will attract a younger more contemporary buyer. Their look even if contemporary doesn't look with it or cool. They just can't do it. And if I was a wealthy privileged buyer I would not be happy about the change.
I live in an extremely wealthy city. No one looks like this; no one dresses this way. Of course, our kind of wealth is hardly quiet.
Dear lord ! I would have to go in there blind folded and hand cuffed. . That is sensational omg. MOMCOCO is a bag shop of dreams. How can anyone want to walk out there empty handed
