It’s about the fall of Gucci. Gucci was higher in the ranking one or two years ago. LV has been on the bottom for ages now. So yeah, Guccis performed worse than LV as LV decline isn’t as big.
All the fashion brands owned by big conglomerates have their issues. It would be more interesting to compare them to independent designers or brands that are on the rise.
Asian here. In where i live what so called Show-off culture is a big thing. It elevates status symbol amongst the commoners. It happens not just in Asia but also in Africa, south America and even the Balkans. Instead of buying a suit those people will buy a T shirt with biggest designers name. It happens the same with cars and houses too. Instead of buying a house with big garden, landscape for maximum privacy people tend to buy ridiculous tacky neo classical houses in high population area just for show off.
Interestingly many comments in here don’t talk about this. Asian consumption of these designers is one big factor. Just about every cool kid, mom, dad, street hustler, grandma and grandpa are wearing Gucci and the likes. From an over saturated point of view it couldn’t be more obvious in why the brand has fallen from grace. The Asian market has slowed down. It’s not just rappers or gang bangers making Gucci ‘uncool’ or tacky.

It all depends on what you buy. I feel all luxury brands have tacky over the top items. I have some great items from Gucci that I love. There’s also tons of stuff there I would never buy. 😊
Wherever I think of Gucci I think of my mother wearing it in the 1970s, her pieces were amazing and fueled my love for timeless quality garments and apparel over fashion. Which is why I love the designer second hand market, but do purchase some new items that I can't walk past. I still use my mothers 70s Cartier bag, and have recently purchased a preloved Marc Jacob's quilted leather bag.The style and quality made me buy it.😊
Show me the discount racks then if they’re doing so poorly. Would love to buy whatever is on sale. A dip in sales is expected after Michele’s departure.
Gucci made a lot of sales while they were trying to promote with young people with casual styles. People just saw their short term sucess back then, but in reality it cheapened the brand and that has long term implications.
This is why Gucci changed its creative direction and raised prices. They were tired of being labelled as a tacky brand and being associated to ostentation, this obviously reflects on the market. The “old” customers don’t want it anymore and now they are trying to reach another kind of audience. A rebranding like this takes time to develop into new sales and more profit. And, honestly? I am LOVING this new chapter of Gucci, it feels like real luxury now.
LVMH and Kering just give off the vibe that they want to own everything, a lot of their brands have started to gain a tacky reputation because of the overuse of logos (the former LV and the latter Gucci). Richemont seems like the only other conglomerate that doesn’t have these issues, all of the brands they own still retain their prestige.
I think the problem is its association with hip hop streetwear rather than designer fashion. Nothing wrong with that necessarily, just not the same kind of luxury it used to be.
I feel like every single brand that was featured in this video gets name checked in hip hop though. So if it’s happening to all of them, it doesn’t make sense that Gucci is the only one to have its sales fall off a cliff. There has to be another variable.
There is a Gucci store at the mall. Every time I go there is security guard and a rope at entrance. Meanwhile there is nobody in the store 😂 so apparently it’s so “exclusive” that even the most VIP clients are excluded.
I live in Thailand and own a few GUCCI bags, I have used one of them every day for 5 years. honestly, the hot weather does not affect its leather quality :)
This is cope. The "discount rack" is always just the tees and giant logo handbags and other miscellaneous stuff, or even the basic low top shoe with the bee logo. The regular high end pieces you wouldn't even be able to identify as Gucci unless you were super familiar with the brand that go for thousands are still in line with every one of these other high end fashion houses.
Indeed. But it was accessories and the vision that “everybody should be able to buy something from a luxury brand”, like LV and Gucci, that has watered down the brands. Both brands sell a very limited amount of clothing.
They should’ve added the song gucci gang, that was a HUGE HIT back in 2017 days, like everyone wanted a gucci bag, shirt, polo, wallet Anything with the Gg
Luxury brands like Gucci actually appeal more to people who aspire to be wealthy. Truly wealthy people are far more modest in the way they dress. The "old money" aesthetic is closer to something you might see James Bond wearing, far more tasteful than most the tat these brands come out with.
I rarely see really wealthy people wearing these brands. I see different levels of middle class people who complain the rising prices at McDonald's wearing and wanting this stuff
Nahhhhhh. I saw Gucci everywhere in London. In Paris no one wears LV but the stores are full of tourists customers buying to take home as prices are lower and no taxes, mostly Chinese and Japanese
@@acex222 the point I'm making is the people I see really lusting over these brand names are the people who can ill afford it and would actually do better making wiser financial decisions. Sorry that went over your head
Tom Ford's Gucci was slick and sophisticated. He brought it back from a tacky era. ( those cheap gold watches at Macy's) This new low point can be called the greed era, they just pumped out overpriced junk with the logo plastered all over the place. What will happen, certain Tom Ford pieces will be sought after as they become scarce, exclusive and hip again,
Pretty sure the same Gucci bag and shoes I bought during Covid have all gone up 10-20% in 3 years. Not sure where is the discount. Gucci was never in same league as Chanel and LV.

Because Gen Z spends money on tech and not high-end designer clothes, shoes, bags, etc. Because Gen Y (aka Mills) are too broke & Gen X is in so much debt because they bought all the Gucci.
I can assure Gen X was the last one bought Italian made brands one fifth of today's prices... Their brands spending just got wasted on projects that didn't retain Long Term Customer Values... Such as loyalty that most hotel brands nurture for lifelong repeat purchases.. Accor I think is the most advanced in terms of understanding LTCV..
Gen Z is literally known as the brand-obsessed/designer-obsessed generation. They have been buying this stuff and more. And why? Because they don't see any point in saving for a home they don't think they will ever afford.
@@venus_envy I would say they're the most brainwashed generation out of social media from a very young age. So psychologically they watched too many things not supposed to be on their radars.. Gen X was the last one with a normal upbringing and minimal exposure of Internet trolling due to pricey and slow internet accesss. They saw none beyond their own neighborhood backyard. Today if one just signed up on FB the first thing to see was a child and adult hands in questionable positions.. That's how morally bankrupt the media world we are living in today. The younger the more likely they are unknowingly abused and enslaved to the highest bidders.
No, Millendials are obsessed with nature, minimalism, and self-development… because if we can’t have it, we’ll find ways to finally afford it but spend it on meaningful things instead. It’s like FU money but with peace of mind.
Also LV really leaned into the streetwear trend, so not sure this video is even accurate. I think its more like Gucci was late with the streetwear trend and the company was more focused on Balenciaga
"The issue is related to brand perception and image. For about a decade, Gucci was the epitome of maximalism but then had to transition to minimalism in a subtle and gradual way. The abrupt shift they made resulted in a loss of their current customers and skeptical looks from other luxury brands enthusiast .
It’s a tacky brand, in America it’s essentially what the poor wear when they get money and want to show off. The quality looks terrible and the people that wear it aren’t exactly what you want to emulate.
Gucci is doing fine. Not everyone into Gucci but Gucci has a worldwide consumers base, and always will. Primark choke the market with cheap fashion, followed by their asian cousins Shein, Temu and more. Fashion palate is not stated by class anymore, its individual taste.
Nothing lasts forever. Everything moves in cycles. Gucci is no exception. Values in society are changing, especially among Gen Z. They are much less materialistic and focus more on life experience rather than accumulating "stuff". Don't be surprised that the luxury fashion brands no longer exist 100 years from now, maybe sooner.
I married into a royal-connected family....none of them wear Gucci or other such brands. They're not considered tasteful. It's the poor that asign the value to these brands - the irony!
4:42 =Amen... When you buy Luxury, it has to be something that is so unique that its a standout or so classic (elegant, minimalist and formal) that it isn't affected by trends that change.
Cheap quality, high prices What could go wrong? My 40 year old gucci loafers are still perfect. My 10 year old ones died in the first year because the quality was poor.
Every time I see someone in Gucci it's either fake of some ultra tacky street wear piece that the person bought on credit. It also doesn't help that the quality of the materials and overall construction is often no better or different than what you can get from Wal-Mart.
once every single influencer had gucci it wasn't a commodity anymore. i also think harry styles wearing gucci for every single outfit in 2017 and 2018 overexposed the brand after a while.
Another problem was the rappers. They all made people want to wear gucci since they always set the trend being artists of a mega popular genre. What happened after that? The fake industry polluted the market. You would not be able to differentiate between the original and the fake. That always devaluate products.

It’s about the fall. Gucci was higher in the ranking before and then fall…that’s a bad thing. LV is down the list for ages now
It’s about the fall of Gucci. Gucci was higher in the ranking one or two years ago. LV has been on the bottom for ages now. So yeah, Guccis performed worse than LV as LV decline isn’t as big.
But LV is "up" from an even lower ranking, IIRC.
All the fashion brands owned by big conglomerates have their issues. It would be more interesting to compare them to independent designers or brands that are on the rise.

While they are laughing in their smelly little dens, Pinaults make billions ☝️😁
heh i sure am. I mainly wear no name t shirts, shorts and fake crocs from walmart.
I live in the Middle East and travel a lot to Asia, it’s outstanding the hype for luxury brands in here.
I’ll never understand this market
It’s called a lack of class and depending on outward signifiers of wealth to make yourself feel artificially superior to others.
In my mind Gucci’s brand positioning is the same as Guess’

People now love to buy custom made stuff and pay the craftsman directly for the work . Thats why Etsy is booming where you can get all unique genuine handmade products by creative peoples
There's a lot of mass produced stuff on Etsy.
There is nothing as luxurious as to pick your own fabric and have something made to fit you. That to me is luxury.

Counterfeit designer clothes is the reason for their downfall also opening up to the middle class and accommodating streetwear for larger sales made gucci lose their exclusivity thus they arent attractive no more
It all depends on what you buy. I feel all luxury brands have tacky over the top items. I have some great items from Gucci that I love. There’s also tons of stuff there I would never buy. 😊

Gucci loafers and oxfords will never go out of style. Leather timeless pieces
@@supremeclientele83 I agree. I love their loafers.
I have a few pairs of Gucci loafers that are the best made shoes I have ever owned. Also some of the luggage is very classy.
Gucci is for people who think Vegas is the height of luxury and get in fistfights at the airport.
This was so accurate it caused me physical pain
Wherever I think of Gucci I think of my mother wearing it in the 1970s, her pieces were amazing and fueled my love for timeless quality garments and apparel over fashion. Which is why I love the designer second hand market, but do purchase some new items that I can't walk past. I still use my mothers 70s Cartier bag, and have recently purchased a preloved Marc Jacob's quilted leather bag.The style and quality made me buy it.😊
Show me the discount racks then if they’re doing so poorly. Would love to buy whatever is on sale. A dip in sales is expected after Michele’s departure.
Facts when he left I was upset
Kudos to the creative team for that thumbnail
Yeah it is catchy
Agreed
Well, 3 years ago all these channels were saying how brilliant Gucci was, and beating all brands, and now suddenly it's the total opposite
3 years is not suddenly. A lot has changed since then.
Sounds like investor shorting or something.
Gucci did license/produce it's name on too many items, imo...
Gucci made a lot of sales while they were trying to promote with young people with casual styles. People just saw their short term sucess back then, but in reality it cheapened the brand and that has long term implications.
lol.
3 years is a long time. That's 6 different collections to ruin a house.
Dirty secret: the moment rappers sing about it, it's going down. Remember Lacoste?
Balenciaga still poppin

To be fair, head designer Alessandro Michele looked and dressed like a homeless bum so the brand was on point.
The Internet like destroy the famous Label, all oy cheep 1 Euro, terrible
You are incorrect
@@michaelenglish1992 Why ?
Nonsense. Michelle was a visionary and breathed new life into the brand
There has to be another variable.
gucci doing collabs is what destroyed its brand image... gucci x adidas for example.
Louis Vuitton does the same thing
Yeah it was terrible
What's wrong with Adidas. Y'all quick to say ish
Love adidas. I wish they made suits too.
Others are doing the same and there is nothing “low” about adidas. You should see them in Tokyo.
All expensive brands need to fall this same way. Enough with designer rubbish.
There is a Gucci store at the mall. Every time I go there is security guard and a rope at entrance. Meanwhile there is nobody in the store 😂 so apparently it’s so “exclusive” that even the most VIP clients are excluded.
I bought Gucci bags twice. They couldn't stand Thailand's hot weather.
I live in Thailand and own a few GUCCI bags, I have used one of them every day for 5 years. honestly, the hot weather does not affect its leather quality :)
Gucci is now lame
Take a closer look... You bought GuGGi. Made in Guang ho.
This.
And that’s enough to drag the brand down.
I love that song!😬😅😅😂 my lean cost more than ya rent!😂😂😅
that led to their downfall
Luxury brands like Gucci actually appeal more to people who aspire to be wealthy. Truly wealthy people are far more modest in the way they dress. The "old money" aesthetic is closer to something you might see James Bond wearing, far more tasteful than most the tat these brands come out with.
❤
I rarely see really wealthy people wearing these brands. I see different levels of middle class people who complain the rising prices at McDonald's wearing and wanting this stuff
Nahhhhhh. I saw Gucci everywhere in London. In Paris no one wears LV but the stores are full of tourists customers buying to take home as prices are lower and no taxes, mostly Chinese and Japanese

Tom Ford's Gucci was slick and sophisticated. He brought it back from a tacky era. ( those cheap gold watches at Macy's) This new low point can be called the greed era, they just pumped out overpriced junk with the logo plastered all over the place. What will happen, certain Tom Ford pieces will be sought after as they become scarce, exclusive and hip again,
Gucci is already revisiting them. Suddenly the horsebit bags are popular again.
I love the Tom ford era of Gucci. There are a few fashion shows on UA-cam from the mid 90’s to early 00’s.
I guess people becoming smart and finally realizing how this industry works.
Pretty sure the same Gucci bag and shoes I bought during Covid have all gone up 10-20% in 3 years. Not sure where is the discount. Gucci was never in same league as Chanel and LV.
Mind you one there is inflation. Two its a pretty standard with fashion bag. Bought a bag prada bag 1000€ and its about triple in value 3 year. Gucci its still luxurious just not as highly regarded as before thats all
What hasn't gone up 10-20% since covid?
Gucci actually WAS
Exactly I don't agree with this video. Gucci continues to be super expensive.
It's an odd comparison. LVMH has way more brands.
They make stuff that will never go out of style timeless 😏
Yeah, about 10 times as many brands, in many more categories like Alcohol, Cosmetics, watches, jewellery. Kering just have about a dozen fashion brands in comparison.
Exactly. LVMH has fragrances, hotels, makeup, fashion, jewelry, alcohol beverages among other products... Is a different sort of company than Kering, which is mostly fashion with some luxury jewelry brands.
Their prices are still higher than a lifeguard's chair.
So basically he marries hot actress and proceeds to lose focus while LVMH grows 10x

Wrong😭😂😂😂 Gen-Z is known to spend all their money in fashion brands. Do your research
No, Millendials are obsessed with nature, minimalism, and self-development… because if we can’t have it, we’ll find ways to finally afford it but spend it on meaningful things instead. It’s like FU money but with peace of mind.
Discount? Someone please tell me where I can find these at a discount every webpage they are all full price over $1000 🤔
I won't be surprised if Dior or Chanel is next.
Also LV really leaned into the streetwear trend, so not sure this video is even accurate. I think its more like Gucci was late with the streetwear trend and the company was more focused on Balenciaga
Brand names lose their luster quickly in the modern age. Personally, quality over image is more fulfilling and enriching.
Define poor. I don’t see any “poor” people sporting Gucci. Most poor people are trying to decide between food and utilities.
Poor folks can’t afford Gucci
@@emerybaybluesthey find a way some how, just like coming up with money for drugs.
That probably explains why after 2023, Gucci's bags started to be more Hermés-like.

The brand is watered down. Luxury buyers want exclusivity.
Every time I see someone in Gucci it's either fake of some ultra tacky street wear piece that the person bought on credit. It also doesn't help that the quality of the materials and overall construction is often no better or different than what you can get from Wal-Mart.
Alessandro Michele happened to Gucci. It hasn't been the same since Tom Ford left. Classic style replaced with Grandma hobo chic
once every single influencer had gucci it wasn't a commodity anymore. i also think harry styles wearing gucci for every single outfit in 2017 and 2018 overexposed the brand after a while.

@@Tryhard943😂😂
Another problem was the rappers. They all made people want to wear gucci since they always set the trend being artists of a mega popular genre. What happened after that? The fake industry polluted the market. You would not be able to differentiate between the original and the fake. That always devaluate products.
That’s actually the likely main issue, but Gucci went woke and would never admit it. A lot of sexy red types be in the Gucci stores.
