Anyway, on the way to Oil City, Pennsylvania, my mom took us on a whole tour of Washington DC, every monument, even Arlington cemetery, and even the Smithsonian. For her, however, it was also a path down memory lane. My mom actually used to live near Arlington cemetery, and showed us all of her old houses. So we asked if we could maybe go inside one, and she was taken aback because she never thought of the possibility. So one of the houses we went to--the one she had the most vivid memories of--we knocked on the door and asked the family if we could have a tour of the house. It's probably the weirdest thing you can do, looking back, but my mom was lucky enough to have a bunch of boys who could conduct themselves for a short period, and the family also had children right around our age, too. We walked through the whole house and you could just see it on my mom's face. She was a teenager when she lived at that house and told us all kinds of stories about it. It was the first time I had ever really witnessed someone experiencing real nostalgia. Truly a special moment for her, and seeing how special it was made it a memory I'll never forget about my mom.

We walked through the whole house and you could just see it on my mom's face. She was a teenager when she lived at that house and told us all kinds of stories about it. It was the first time I had ever really witnessed someone experiencing real nostalgia. Truly a special moment for her, and seeing how special it was made it a memory I'll never forget about my mom.
