Not jumping down your throat at all but I've seen it twice, once in 3rd row. He does an excellent job of showing the anguish. He actually cries on stage. He was literally kneeling right in front of me with tears coming out of his eyes. Might I add that I pretty much melted. :)
Whoa! ok, guys, I have to say, I'm blown away with this one! This is THE first performance since Carl Anderson that I have been impressed by. I've seen others take liberties with the song and I've hated it. This guy has put himself completely in character. I really like the soul and growl in his voice. He's got the emotion, the confusion, the rock component. Wish I could cast my own version of Superstar. He's got the Judas role!
He's not only singing - he's acting - and he is doing a brilliant job at both! I've seen many in the role of Judas, but, judging from this, I think he is the best ever. I wish him nothing but the best in his career!
Anyone who does not like this obviously has not seen the show or heard this man sing live. He is truly one of the most talented people out there today and deserves people's admiration.
the moment you came onstage with "heaven on their minds" i started crying, even though it was my second time seeing the show. you have such a special talent Josh, and it was so special to get to sing quietly along during the show, and get your autograph! thank you so much, you are such an inspiration!
This song, this performance, hell, him, Josh Young, was worth the price of admission, albeit for me it was only 27 dollars, he made this show, he killed it!! Tony nomination for sure, love him, I can't praise this guy enough, im still in awe of this Superstar, both the show and this man.
Josh Young is AMAZING! My mother has seen this show 4 times, yet she said that he was the best Judas she has ever heard. I fangirl as I watch this video! :)
i really wish i could see the show because you are so right that the acting and staging (movement) can really add to a performance and it would be good to see another interpretation.
His voice is technically very "clean", I agree, but he definitely does have the anguish in his staging/blocking/performance even if his voice isn't quite as raw as Carl Anderson, for instance. I think he's done a great job making the role his own so I actually like that he sounds so different from other Judases (where the comparisons would be even worse).
Yes! I honestly think Josh's interpretation works better in this setting. The showy glam!rock concert thing (that's popularly done for this number) feels wrong for his voice. I like this whole intimate, Jazzy, indie rock band thing better... wish they had incorporated it into the actual show. He nailed it! AND he's pretty. Love that growl. Huzzah to not having to scream every note for the song to sound good!
Marco Sciortino I actually think I figured it out! He says, "Now, I died for you! Did you die for EVERY father, child, and, mother?! For all of time?! Now, *I* am damned. Are YOU divine?!" There ya go!
+Erin Wurtz do you know what he says before that at 3:26 to 3:30, I understand that he says "tell me (then a word that I can't understand), tell me brother" or something like that and then comes what you said, please help me
Is it just me or does Mel O'Neill get a lot of the camera in this video for being Ensemble? I'm not complaining, she could've been Mary, she's that talented. I'm just curious lol
I'm beginning to think that Judas was starved for the attention that Jesus got. It wasn't so much that Jesus was bringing to much attention to the decyples or that he was scared of the claims Jesus made. He just got tired of being second. Thats why he turned Jesus in for the 30 pieces of silver. Some best friend Judas turned out to be.
Josh Young has a nice voice but that i think is part of the problem. he doesn't sound like he could ever be in anguish (please don't jump down my throat i've only been able to listen on youtube and y'all say he is better in the show). I like my Judas raw. Carl Anderson was a fantastic choice when JCS first got going but, for me, Zubin Varla's Judas shows how conflicted the character is.
Listen to the Original Record with Murray Head As the Original Judas and then Listen to Carl Anderson and see how Carl made Judas his way with a little more Soul sound, Murray sang it cleaner on the Original Record.
it takes more, alot more than a great voice to pull off judas, and its only fair to compare this guy to the best judas......carl anderson, sorry there is no comparison, carls version is filled with raw emotion, not a pretty face..thank you
Lol, not enough room for all of them. They have more than enough ambient sound to make up for being 1 short. It's not like having a cashier shortage on Black Friday, just turn the volume up on the background singers.
Not a fan of this performance. I know he's talented... have seen other vids... but this is just terrible in my opinion. He should stick to the mainstream Broadway stuff and steer clear of the rock stuff.

He is probably one of the most electrifying performers I have ever seen. I want to see this show now.
He's not only singing - he's acting - and he is doing a brilliant job at both! I've seen many in the role of Judas, but, judging from this, I think he is the best ever. I wish him nothing but the best in his career!

Josh Young is incredible in this.
He is bravo! Such a great rich baritone-tenor voice!
Phenomenal, soul touching. Thank you.
That jam "kicks ass" ! ...........all great musicians !😎..

Wish I could go back to NYC and see this show.
Amazing!
That look he give at 3:08-3:09 makes me melt...Oh God...
I wish I could see this production. The casting directors have really tapped into something special here.
His voice... WOW! That last part!
i really wish i could see the show because you are so right that the acting and staging (movement) can really add to a performance and it would be good to see another interpretation.
Josh did a Great job and the Girls and Band nailed it; I wish I could have seen this version of JCS when Josh was doing Judas.
Cool, now I can play and sing it on guitar. Thank you Jesus. It is Good. Josh Young, that is as good as it gets.
Amazing voice !!
I LOVED IT!! I don't care what sbank-etc said below
Awesome!!
I like this rendition..
Extreeeeemely easy on the eyes, that one.
Wow
Great BASS PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeeeeeeeeeees!
Killer version \m/
O.K. Josh made Jesus to enter the 21st century. But I still love the old Superstars.
6 people are damned for all time
dang - it doesn't matter what a man looks like (but Josh great looking) there is NOTHING sexier than a man who can sing!
he's so pretty
i agree
Josh Young...-drools-
he's so hot and then his voice...*drools*
These girls...
The first rating was a dislike, that person was lying.
Please Help me!! I need to know what he say from 3.30 to 3.42! I'm going to be MAD! I listened too much time but I don't understand that part!
Marco Sciortino Jesus tell me, I only want to know; tell me , tell me
Marco Sciortino I actually think I figured it out! He says, "Now, I died for you! Did you die for EVERY father, child, and, mother?! For all of time?! Now, *I* am damned. Are YOU divine?!" There ya go!

Erin Wurtz You got is spot on! That's what is sounds like for sure.
It's "Tell Me Friend, Tell Me Brother"
Is it just me or does Mel O'Neill get a lot of the camera in this video for being Ensemble? I'm not complaining, she could've been Mary, she's that talented. I'm just curious lol
have you ever met him? I have-It's worse in person-I almost slipped on my own drool.

brass are not ok....
still love the original Judas...he has a more Judasy voice...
Which one?? Murray Head [form the original LP,] Ben Vereen [from the first Broadway play] or the later film judas [Carl Anderson].
What is with the editing lol

Someone is missing! There's supposed to be seven females with him.
Lol, not enough room for all of them. They have more than enough ambient sound to make up for being 1 short. It's not like having a cashier shortage on Black Friday, just turn the volume up on the background singers.
People keep on talking about joss. but what about the Hot female Chick's!
He's gonna lose his voice doing this 8 times a week
Luckily he didn’t! That’s what good technique and lots of water does for ya :)
Wow the video editing is terrible
Carl Andersion by 50 miles at least. A good voice doesn't make the character.
lol so cringeworthy. we've come so far since 2012.
Not a fan of this performance. I know he's talented... have seen other vids... but this is just terrible in my opinion. He should stick to the mainstream Broadway stuff and steer clear of the rock stuff.
HORRIBLE MAIN VOICE!!!
