Out of all the different versions of JCSS I saw, Lee Siegel Is my favourite Simon Zealotes. Power is having such voice. You've got the power and the glory my friend 🤩
I saw this live, and won't lie, it truly was amazing. As a music teacher, getting the hair to stand up on the back of my neck and my arms is a true feat... Lee absolutely knocked it out of the park! Kudos!
i saw this in manhattan and in stratford and both times i saw in the mezzanine and i think you get more from the screens and just in general if youre seeing a show for the show and not for the famous people see it in the mezzanine in the center because its always more amazing
I've watched this show saturday at the Neil Simon Theatre in Manhattan and it was more than AMAZING!! I plan to go to watch it again, but this time from the mezzanine, because being at che orchestra level in the third row central sometimes I was missing something in the action. Pontius Pilate was played from Jeremy Kushnier and also him was great. Lee Siegel is powerful as voice and as presence on the stage. If you all can, go and watch this show: for me has been the best show see in years.
I was lucky to see this production recently. Afterwards at the stage door I told Lee how much I enjoyed his song, and he was so nice. He even shook my hand! Definitely a night to remember!
Happy birthday to me! I wanted to be serenaded for my birthday today. Listening to this will just have to do :-) My favourite version EVER of this song!
I shared this song (and several from the same concert) this Easter, the Easter of covid. I probably should've said something about touching. In any case, these vids have become a yearly Easter pilgrimage for me. Most of these people aren't close friends, but they are certainly acquaintances, some I've even performed with. I was an actor in Stratford, where this production originated, and we all knew it had legs. I didn't see it until late in the season (I didn't see Josh as Judas). I, and many in our company, were proud to have the show travel, and to give this unique concert.
That's my friend!!! I'm soooooo proud!! BRAVO!!! I can brag that I've performed with this amazing guy. I played The Rose Seller along side his Milkman in Oliver in 1990! :)
I had no idea this song would be such a showstopper when I saw the show last week, but it was, and he killed this number, he's no Tony Vincent (UA-cam his verison of this song...) but he was pretty great.
I especially missed the secretive, "Keep them yelling their devotion" with the converational "but add a touch of hate at Rome" - Simon was sincerely trying to advise Jesus in that scene which was at the height of Jesus' popularity with the people as well as their desire to use his popularity for their own purposes. We need to see that in Simon's song.
This was filmed in the Crypt chapel of the Church of the Intercession (Episcopal) located on Broadway and 155th street. Come by and visit anytime. Sunday services are 8am, 10am and 12:30pm.
Interestingly, he did play Judas approx 10 yrs ago in a community theatre production in the Niagara Region. It was during one of those performance that Lee was approached by his agent.
farber2 that’s the thing about “Jesus Christ Superstar”, it’s not a strict Bible story but it brings glory to God nonetheless. The good news of faith in Jesus Christ, leading to forgiveness of sins, a victorious life, &Heaven, not Hell. holyrestoration.weebly.com/the-gospel.html
I wish this cast had a recording. Amazing vocals. I think these videos don't portray the ensemble as well as they should be, they sound fantastic live (it's probably the sound mixing with the video, they just don't sound as cohesive here as they do live).
Unfortunately, JCS closed on July 1st. The cast has gone on to varied projects/locations. It was just announced that Paul Nolan (Jesus) has landed a lead in the new Flaming Lips musical, opening at La Jolla in November. (Aiming for Broadway and with Des McAnuff at the helm, it's a distinct possibility)
No he's not... -- Lee is not signed to any contracts. - I assure you of that. (He is only contracted to do the JCS performance. - No recording contracts for him exist. - Although he'd be interested.)
Wow there must not be any very good singers out there anymore... Anyone can blow while they’re standing still?.. I wanna see you pull those octaves off while Incorporating some real movement and acting like the real show requires! I’ve done this role and anybody can sing standing still.
This is why Evangelism is so Dangerous, Getting their way ,and saying , Jesus or God, saved you from your sin. This is Gods will. And we must do Gods will.
OK, official critique: Was just ok for me. I've seen/heard better and worse. I like that he took some liberties with the repetitions of "You get the power and the glory" but I can't help but be hearing the original in my head and feeling like something's missing when other singers don't even try to get it.
I saw this very disappointing version of JCSS on broadway, cried during the entire thing cause it was so disappointing ( im prob the biggest JCSS fan in the world.) And this Simon was literally the only good part about the show. He got the mightiest applause.

Зилот- не власть! Он- бунтарь!!!
I just saw Jesus Christ Superstar tonight on Broadway, no kidding this number brought the house down. BEST of the entire evening. Bravo!!!!!!!!
what an incredible voice! best simon ever, i guess

so so so good wow
This was also one of the friendliest casts I've ever had the pleasure of talking to at the stage door!
One of OurFavortie Plays "EVER".
Have owned Original Film Version for years.
This group is doing a great performance of it. THANKS for sharing it.
Lee Siegel is still the best Simon Zealotes I've ever heard
❤️❤️❤️❤️ had to watch over and over!
I saw this on Broadway and he brought down the house

What a freaking beast.
Yes he is.... Wow....
Lee, you are amazing! Hope you are having the time of your life. Thanks for being such a role model! Chills every time!
OUTSTANDING!

Not only is he so incredibly talented, he's also one of the nicest guys I've ever met!
Amazing! Real 70's vibe..love it! :))
Love it!!!
I NEED TO SEE THIS SHOW D:
That song , music score, vocals just kicked major ass ! 😎
That's cool. Thanks for the insight. He nails this song. Wish I could catch the show, but hey, maybe they'll tour to central Ohio at some point.
I had no idea this song would be such a showstopper when I saw the show last week, but it was, and he killed this number, he's no Tony Vincent (UA-cam his verison of this song...) but he was pretty great.
Same here! When I saw him do this I got SERIOUS chills.
@lv4bway Okay, I take it back they are all very good!!
IT IS SURPRISING TO SEE THE ACTRESS MELISSA O´NEIL IN THE CHORUS. SHE IS PRETTY😍😍

Great!

0 dislikes. Thank you world.
I hope you put Josh's songs to too!
2:48 LOVE seeing that girl get so into it!
I am more atheist than you can image, this is glorious.

I'm an atheist and this is my favorite musical. This is so gospel music. Lol.
2:46 .... I´m in love with that girl
It is not about religion, it is a story.

you know that Tony Vincent is only in the film from the year 2000 simon zealotes ? on broadway he was judas ! ;)

is he performing in NY now? im going to see the show in 2 weeks

Is there anyway I can get the soundtrack for this concert without having to go to a youtube converter?
Wow there must not be any very good singers out there anymore...

Enjoying the music has nothing to do with religion.
hahahaha, NO, I'm the biggest fan, lol ;)

Вы ж не пиво пьете, пацаны! Это драма! Не танцы!
I wish I would have seen this, haven't seen jcs since 2003, no doubt its all overly camp and way over the top, they don't seem like jcs shows anymore

there are 2 now :(
:notbad:
now it's getting weird
farber2 I can't wait for the next step in this saga of comments
IS HE BLACK?!?! If he isn't we must have him
Maybe he is good...but for me there is much better Simon - in the BBC version from 2000
Nope, Chuck Testa
just so you know, the is how you do this song: ua-cam.com/video/AOMgCUcmJkI/v-deo.html
Lee Siegel should be playing Judas, the other guys voice is not right that part.
Bwell2017 He will be playing Judas in a production in Prince Edward Island Canada
I saw this very disappointing version of JCSS on broadway, cried during the entire thing cause it was so disappointing ( im prob the biggest JCSS fan in the world.) And this Simon was literally the only good part about the show. He got the mightiest applause.
Of the custom performances, yes. But considering official ones, both Tony Vincent and that rastafari guy were better.
He should have been Judas.
Fun fact, in 2018 he did end up being Judas in a Charlottetown production.
