Making that complex trade to get brick was huge because it was a great roll number, got you a resource you didn't have yet and got you the 3:1 port you lost in the beginning placements.
Thoughts: - 6:30 you should steal from red because he blocked you. it's good to signal that you're doing "tit for tat". Also, it's not as strong to block purple's 9 wood when his 5 wood is open, blocking the 8 brick is stronger. This means only you and blue produce brick on a high-wood board, so if red's brick is blocked and all the wood spots are open, people will need to trade you and blue for bricks. Red should prioritize blocking your brick anyway. I'm guessing red pointed his second settlement's road to the right to get to the brick port, which is a huge mistake, he should go to the 6-wheat as you said. - 8:30 blue used road building too soon. no reason to use it if he can't build the settlement yet, road building is good for surprise moves. Also, he should have thought about going to the 4-5 to get some ore production which is his biggest weakness. - 14:00 your next move should definitely start citying up and then buying dev-card to secure army. A decent port option is the 8-brick. - 18:50 red understands his mistake with the second road placement. - 23:00 why offer two cards for 1 ore before you tried offering one card? then you didn't have resources for two roads. Also, you kinda need to buy some dev cards first to get some knights. - 28:55 first try to trade 1 wood and 1 sheep for 2 wheat, then you can trade with the bank for what you need. much better than giving another player 4 cards... it's not too terrible here cuz red is so behind and he used it to block purple, but if you didn't see he was gonna do that then it's conceptually a huge mistake. - 30:50 blue is dead... he is capped at 4 settlement, he produces no ore and he is pretty much blocked from extending his road much longer. go for purple and contest army. you are waiting for too long with dev cards - 37:00 wtf is purple doing? giving red the resources to block him? purple has waited too long to get the wood port which is really important for him. red managed to kill purple, the win is yours. - the other players didn't recognize you have the highest chance at winning, they should have come after you and punished you for pulling so far ahead without buying dev cards.
At 38:41 you likely could have traded ore for sheep with blue and built road road settlement to cut off red instead of putting a city on the 10-10. It would get the same points and would have guaranteed longest road.
Blue made a huge mistake with the road building. He should have used it as a sneak play to take the 5/4 3:1 port from Purple. It would have given him the ore he needed and take Purple out of the game.
Much agreed. One of the biggest things I've learned is that denying opponents when it is as no deficit to yourself is a huge part of the game. In this instance, Blue would have gained so much out of it, it was well worth any risk encountered.
The reason is pretty sound but you can go a lot deeper. You said early on that blue was ahead, but only because he had longest road. Longest road is easy to lose in most cases and doesn't signify power most of the time. Having two cities is way scarier then having longest road. Having largest army is way scarier then longest road. So don't quantify players on their victory points alone.
can someone explain to me why starting the on the 6 5 11 intersection isn't even in question? Is it a bad starting location, looks prime to me with good connections to ports, and then you could get brick and sheep on 8 9 2 intersection.
Glad to hear you enjoy them despite the low skill quality of the games! It seems the Catan Universe matchmaking system just puts anyone with anyone and lets the ELO system take care of the rest. Leads to some very uninteresting victories and lopsided games. Wish queue times were a bit longer so more even games could be played out. I've also noticed the skill variance from 1100 to 1300 is wide, probably due to the low player population.
Not sure why you thought blue was any threat at 6 points, they had literally no chance to win the game. 0 spots to expand to for a 5th settlement and 0 ore production. Enjoyed the video though :)
2nd placement should have been 9/2/3 in bottom left, I think. You would have gotten more wheat, safely and still gotten the wood/brick. Also, you could have built towards wood port.
Interesting! I think the synergy of the 9/10 clay and logs was superior to the 2clay/9log. Further, I think the 3rd and 4th settlement potential were quite good (3:1 port, wheat). The log port seemed less important when compared to how close my settlements were (longest road potential) and that I was denying blue & purple longest road & resource tiles they needed.
Hi guys , i dont fully understand , what i can unlock if i buy 400 gold and buy catan base game . I can get multiplayer , singeplayer , game for 4 players and i will have each map different ? Or is there something more or less. Thanks for answering
"Someone already stole from purple, so I don't want to steal from them... so I'll just steal from purple."
Nicholas J. Maurer “what did I do to you?” Purple growl in dismay
6:30 - Someone just stole from purple, don't wanna make enemies.... *steals from purple*

I enjoy your videos! Your opponents are a bit low level though. Also you could use a less creepy avatar! :-)

At 38.55 you hold your road cards. Why did you do that knowing blue was at 8 roads as well? Thx!

You had good OWS during this game and would have gotten out ahead much quicker if six would have been rolled more early on.
well played
Where can I download this game?
Catan universe iirc
