Yes! This is the best redesign i've ever seen, if the front end can be redesigned with the early 80's square grill and flat hood i'll consider to build this in real life!
It is a mistake to remove the horizontal side lines. They are very characteristic to the 240, and also visually mitigates the boxiness. However, in a modern design they might be replaced by a metal fold as for the P1800 Cyan.
For me it's all the memories associated with them. Then there's the engine that sounds like a massive fan, the loud, hard turn signal clicks and so much more that makes them special

@@Thesketchmonkey Exactly what it is. My memories go way back further. I had a 1972 Volvo 164 E and I remember p1800 and Amazon Volvo 122s on the road. I think the closest Volvo today to the 240 is not badged a Volvo but was designed as one. The Polestar 2.

PixelFastFood Play yeah but that’s the point. It had reached peak. To me the 1989- 1993 model was peak you cannot redesigning without changing it away from everything it stood for, which was a unique combination of quality and elegance with down to earth directness and plainness.

I am 100% with you. I have my 2nd 240 in the last 10 years, my wife drives a 1992 940 and just got a 1990 745 wagon last night with 91K original miles. TANKS is an understatement when referring to these machines. Very easy to work on, SUPER reliable, simplicity at its best. Change your oil, avoid overheating and change your timing belt every 60k miles and your grandkids will be able to drive them with ease into 2045. At 25 Smiles Per Gallon after 30+ years, we can not complain. Bravo Volvo!

Finally! There's always a special place in my heart for 200-series Volvo. My dad used to have two of them and 244 was the first car I drove after I got my license. It was 1983 2.0 with aftermarket turbo and a rear spoiler and a thing of pure beauty.
Short sedan/coupe/wagon with boxy shape, literally undestructible drivetrain and engine, sporty setup etc with RWD/AWD (longitudinal mounted engine is must-have). There is a niche for this car. Imagine more practical rival to GT86/BRZ. And then imagine BTCC/other touring car spec race machine.
Many years ago I had a 242 Coupe and I'm glad you weren't around then. I would have gone broke trying to make mine look as good as your redesign. Excellent! You're very talented and I enjoy your videos.
Love it! The original 240DL saved my family after my wife hit a power pole a few years back. The engine was in the front seat and the frame was bent making the rear wheel up in the air but still all the doors opened and closed perfectly. I will always love these cars

My dad had a tan one in the early 80's when he lived in Paris for work, which he had to sell once his term was over. Replaced it with a VW Santana. His co-worker and our neighbor also had a maroon one in the early 90's. Such a timeless design outside.

If my late grandpa saw this video, he'd shed tears of joy. The 240 (GL) is his car since his working days all the way to his later days in life. Maybe later on I could relive the memories by buying the car just like that.
Owning a 1992 240, I 100% approve of this. Funny that you mention the distinctive shoulders on the 240. After noticing them and the grille on the 2020 XC90, I started to see a lot of other body lines which look like they've been carried over from the 240 station wagon too.
Very cleverly done. Love the shoulder line running front to back. I've had Volvos for 20+ years and have just traded in a 2014 S80 for a 2019 V90CC. I loved the S80 but the boot/trunk access was terrible. The boot itself was pretty spacious but the narrow and short opening was a pain. Your redesigned 240 would be a great solution as the boot lid looks massive giving plenty of access. And the whole car just exudes premium quality with that wonderfully understated Scandanavian style 👍
No one is perfect... And you have done some vehicles that didn't really turn out the way I would imagine, but this one is right on the money.. Great job!!
Talk about memories. Definately one of your best updates. In Australia I think they had the most marketshare outside Sweden with peak Volvo being the touring car racing station wagon. It was hilarious to watch a station wagon embarrassing quite a few 'muscle' cars. Still see a lot today and I think they are probably the only multi-generational family car handed down through families. I had the XC70 for 15years and it was still in good nick, and both sons learnt to drive in it.
I frickin love the 240 coupe. It looks the bomb. Such a damn cool motor. My pal had one when we were coming up, aged 18 or so. It was a road trip legend!
You should definitely design your own military vehicle. Like a military scout vehicle, mainly for transportation and recon but you could also mount weaponry on it if one so chose. Thinking about what such a vehicle would need to entail, design wise, such as off road capability, modularity (so you can take it apart and fix it easily), durability, etc. I think it would be a fun challenge to make a car that fits that criteria and make it look cool as well

I usually hate modern versions of old classic cars, but as a Volvo enthusiast and owner of 10 Volvos and a 240, this is classy and definitely a tasteful rendition of the 240. Excellent job!

Peugeot 306 GTi6, designed by Pininfarina, i think it's on of the best looking older European hatchbacks. I would really love if you made a modernization of that car. Love your videos, keep it up! ❤️
Sketch Monkey, please please please redesign the MINI Coupe. They stopped making it in 2015, and I think that if they had committed to it and actually made it more different than a MINI cooper with a different roof, then it could have been a really successful small affordable sports car!
My dad had a vovlo 740 gle I believe it was an 87- 90 that was smoke silver metallic with a burgundy rag top and I loved that car and looking for it for 11 year to get it back and restore it for him.
I always liked the Volvo C70 PRHT. Although, speaking of the 240, my dad had a forest green 244 back in the 90's. He got that as a replacement for an old Morris Marina 1300.

Ok, so, I kinda want to get a small consensus here going back to -8:20 or 4:52ish: I have a 2005 Volvo S80 and one of the things I absolutely loved about Volvo in this generation, was that divot that went from almost headlight all the way back to the tail light that left a divot in the tail light itself. This to me was such a signature Volvo thing, that you could see that from a mile away and be like, "that's a Volvo." When they took that out and made the divot a little bit more flush with the car, I feel like it's starting to look more and more like your average car.

It reminds me of the Jaguar XJ (2003-2009) and the Jaguar X-type in so many good ways from the rims to the trunk to the boxiness etc.

Absolutely love it. I would like to see a front 3/4 view of it also. Still done nice though.
As for the aviation references... let's not forget, it was Volvo who used to provide the engines for Saab's fighter jets!
