Ah, yes. My favorit driveable fridge. My friend owns one in white ( hence why we dubbed it " refrigerator", as its form always reminded us to it) which he found in a backyard with a plum tree growing out of its engine bay. We restored it and tuned it up to around 330hp of power and left it to look stock. Its a breeze to drive this car and the acceleration is brutal. No one expects it and i love to screw with cocky Audi RS-whatever drivers as they always get surprised and salty by the end. The durability of this car is another great point as it is nearly indestructible. My friend ( the owner ) 2 other friends and me climbed on the rear bumper and started to wiggle and jump on it without it deforming even a little bit, it even survived a car crash where a miata climbed on top of the engine bay with only the left headlight having a crack in it and having a scratch mark on top of the bonnet. Its always nice to see them on the road as they are really rare around here where i live.
i have a blue 850 i also had a white ex police v70 t5 ph1 i took the whole turbo system from the white car and put it on my blue 2.5 n/a 850 and ive done 30k with it with no issues and it gets driven very hard people on the forums said it couldnt be done ive had 324hp on the dyno i think thats pretty good considering its a 2.5 n/a with the 2.4 turbo system and the turbo is bigger aswell i ran the small one for a while but wanted more power my 850 is extremely clean but is a proper sleeper doesnt look like a fast car but she shifts ive got her all cross braced and side braced aswell
I had a V70 that survived a crash with a moose. It came out of the ordeal with a broken windshield, a cracked indicator light and some minor dents in the bonnet. That particular car is still on the road today
In high school, an upperclassman had a cream yellow 850 t5-r with the pegasus wheels and lowering springs. That 5 cylinder sound has always been music to my ears.
This redesign gave me an idea for a series you could host, @TheSketchMonkey: "Unexpected Hearse" in which you'd make the least expected transformations of the worst-fitting cars.
I had the Volvo 850 sedan, Automatic Transmission, Gold in colour... I loved this car. It drives beautifully and smooth. Very well built, comfortable and luxurious...
The moose sticker doesn't have much meaning to it really.. The logotype is inspired by a test made by Volvo. Where the vehicle had to avoid a dummy moose.
Not having choices of manual transmission wagons is among my biggest complaints about living in the USA. I used to live the dream with VW's TDI Sportwagen, but we all know how that turned out.
I wanted a 1995 T5R Wagon in yellow so bad, but finding one of the 49 was challenging in 1999 when I was looking. I did find a T5R sedan in black, that was at one point a fleet vehicle for Volvo USA. I loved that car. I added a boost controller and increased the turbo pressure to 17psi. There was not a tire that could handle the power. It was a sad day when I sold that car. Nice video.
just bought an 850 wagon. 23 years old and runs like its brand new. It was never really on my radar before I bought it but this car has one me over. If Volvo made a wagon that looks like the one in this video I'm afraid ill just have to do without a lung and a kidney.
the more I look at these sketches the more I realize just how good of a job Volvo did on designing their vehicles they really are truly Timeless I'm really glad I still have my 81 240 can't wait to buy a few more of the other model that I really like
My first car was a '97 850 estate, auto, n/a, silver, but still became one of my favourite cars to look at and loads of fun to drive. Sadly he had to be recycled for $300 when the fluid leaks got too expensive. I miss my Hearse so much, RIP
@@shona5512 i dont think you get the point of what he is doing, he isnt changing the cars base style, he is modernising it as if it were to be produced today... Sadly, i dont see any 1984 lancia deltas being produced any time soon...
Just to clarify. The T5-R is the pale yellow 850 with 240 horsepower, it also game as black. There was also a Green Bathgate made for certain markets. The 850R has 250hp, and is red or black. It came approx one year after the T5-R. It had different rims, and interior compared to the T5-R. Also some other changes, like different trunk lid spoiler on the sedan.
The distinct sound of the 5-cylinder engines can also be heard in some early Audi models as well. They were the first to utilize a 5-cylinder engine. It sounds much like a V10, but with a deeper note. Same applies to the 5-cylinder diesels. Their sound is simply magical. Volvo adopted the Audi 5-cylinder 2.5 liter turbodiesel in some late 850's and the early V70's. Beforehand, the diesel engines used by Volvo was derived from the VW LT van. It was a 6-cylinder 2.4 liter that came in 3 different variants.
It’s a testament to the original design that in the end very little changed, slight modernising touches but even the wheels were the originals. Look at the second generation v60 and I definitely feel that it hasn’t aged as well.
This bringes up sweet memories. Not about the 850 but about the colour. The only Volvo we have had in my family was cream yellow Volvo Amazon 121 automatic from 1966. The story behind how we got her and why she had an automatic gearbox as the only car in our neighborhood. Goes something like this. My grand father’s brother had emigrated to the USA in the beginning of the 20’th century. In the early 1960’ies he had gone on pension and had come to the not surprising conclusion that he would be better of back home in Denmark. With free healthcare in Denmark it was probably an easy decision. So he sold house mid century Ford Lincoln and whatever stuff he had and went back. In Denmark there was hardly any American cars so my father who obviously new about European cars was told to purchase a car for him, the only condition was a budget and that it was an automatic transmission car, because he had not driven with a stick the last 20 years. So my father purchased this lovely automatic Amazon. One year later Volvo introduced the 140 model, which the old man decided he couldn’t live without because it had a new fancy feature something he called power breaks. What we in Europe cal servo assisted brakes. Long story short, he got the 140 and my mother and father purchased the Amazon where I spent a lo of happy time of my childhood. Great memories. For now I will spare you all the story of how the old man ended up completely demolishing the Volvo, happily without hurting anyone. For now let’s just say he should have applied the power brakes more vigorously Good redesign of the 850, by the way!!
Always has been and always will be one of the iconic Station Wagons in history. It's right up there with the Ford Country Squire Wagon from the 60's. I love SUV'S but I miss Station Wagons. And with today's tech, they should be extremely popular.
My dad to this day has a 2.5 t5 non turbo and that has that distinctive sound, its in near perfect condition even though has 180k on the clock. Awesome machine, it will be mine one day and cant wait ha ha
This is one of my favourite redesigns, love your content. If possible, could you please have a redesign video of the front as well. Thanks again, keep up the great work.
Great work! One thing I'd like to see in your re-designs is a wider wheel arches. I think it would help cars to look even more modern or at least give them more presence if you know what I mean.
I got my 95 white saloon , manual T5R with blue leather interior in 2000 and was my daily for 8 years , I loved that car so much and my beautiful girlfriend sara had a matching one in blue, sadly she died in hers drifting it at 120mph ..rip baby girl, so I have massive respect for these cars because I didn't think anything would be able slay that woman 😘
FYI. The polestar 1 vehicle is not an all electric car. It's a hybrid with a 150km range on pure battery power. The front wheels are driven by a petrol engine (VEP 4 HP super and turbo charged engine) and the rear wheels are driven by two electric motors. Combined 447kW/608Hp
side looks really naked rims are too big it reminds me a lot of a tuner for some reason but i still like iti just feel the side looks off maybe it's the quality of the image and the paint it looks cartoon rather than realistic
Redesign the volvo p1800 as if it was done today, would really love to watch that. My dad owns a white one from 1966 with red interior, and it's such a beautiful car.
Yeeeaaahhhhh!! I like Volvo! Go figure a Scandinavian redesigning a Scandinavian car! ;-) I always thought of them as the "Swedish BMW". Definitely love the 2020 models they got!!

I’ve always had a strange love for this car, I’m happy to know I’m not the only one haha.
This but with nearly all Volvo's for me.
oh u ain't the only one! I'm in absolute love with the 850 R! Best car ever!
V3riety personally I prefer the 850 awd, because fwd is gay.
I’m like this but for the V70.
i love the 242GT more but this is one sick slick brick.

I remember when this came out and saw those rear lights for the first time - function guiding form and it’s brilliant!
Oh man, when cars were actually CARS! a true legend
As an 850R owner, you absolutely smashed it! Well impressed 👍
I’m jealous!
i just bought a 850R project in the red!
My dad has had 3 sedan 850 R’s and a 04 V70R which he has had for over 10 years now. I just love the sound of the 5 cylinder engine
The T5 is a great sounding motor, I own an s40 and get to experience that beautiful sound everyday
This brand will never get old. They are the best manufacturers of family tanks ever
I totally loved the 850R when it was out...my first boss had one in dark grey....it looked and drove fantasically

Yes I always wanted a smart car hearse
A Lamborghini Aventador hearse 😂
Well, Miata 4 seater, 3-door wagon is my imaginary perfect vehicle.
How about Ms Frizzles school bus, I mean if you play Pumped Up Kicks it’ll work anyways.
Imagine a BMW Isetta (bubble car) hearse!
My dad recently bought a cream yellow 850 T5-R and it looks amazing. Great job on this re-design!

I like how no one has brought up the Ferrari/Volvo badge. (Volvarri? Folvo?)
TheIcyWulf One guy got idea of producing those volvo moose stickers after seeing it in Volvo XC90 show car with the moose evasion technology.
Prancing moose
The moose sticker doesn't have much meaning to it really..
The logotype is inspired by a test made by Volvo. Where the vehicle had to avoid a dummy moose.
The Ferrolvo
A bit (un)related but interesting fact: Volvos have 5x108mm lug nut spacing, the same as most Ferraris so Ferrari wheels go on Volvos and vice versa
It is rare for me to watch an entire video but you got me hooked up! Great job! Volvo for life ⚡
Not having choices of manual transmission wagons is among my biggest complaints about living in the USA. I used to live the dream with VW's TDI Sportwagen, but we all know how that turned out.

So much pure talent. Thank you for sharing!
I own a volvo 850 t5 r. And it feels amazing that you made a modern version of it.
I LOVE sport wagons. You did a phenomenal job on this one. I would love to see the front.
The green house design and the rear tall tail lights were something I've always loved about this model the wagon specifically.
I mean the 2020 s60, I like. BUT the rear.... I am not a fan of that! and yeah the s60 really is a timeless design for sure! Have it myself as well
Great redesign and I’m so happy you put the og wheels on 👍
My parents had an 850r sedan. It's grown on me a lot over time.
I always loved old Volvos like the 740 and 850R
I hope they bring back the inline5 as a hybrid
Sadly i think they won't
The 2014 V60 D6 is a diesel inline 5 PHEV
Noah Langens that’s cool but I think Volvo stopped making inline five cylinder engine

we have had a few volvo wagons.. my wife currently drives the v60R design polestar beauty the seats are amazing

1st gen C70 is the most beautiful Volvo.
I love my 04 S60R .
I hope to get an 850 R someday
While Volvo makes the safest cars in the world, they make really cool cars like the 740, 850R, S60R/V70R, C30, and Polestar

I love this car so much! Want to get a Volvo wagon so bad!
They definitely need to bring back the more practical classic boxy & rectangular shape.
Got one myself. Love my Volvo
you can not mess with perfection
Absolutely love the 850 AND the redesign you did. 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
they could bring this car back in the shape of a literal brick and i would still love it
Lamborghini is the best way to explain the sound of these engines
Ah, I see you are the man of culture as well
I wish you had put quad exhaust pipes in the back on this car. Two in each corner. That would look more sleeper-car like.
The 850 R Wagon is one of my favourite "fast" wagons. I hope Volvo see this video
Love the 850R sedan. I'd have it in red thank you very much.
Okay, you need to send that sketch to Volvo and they need to remake that wagon, that is sweet.

Love ur vids
Thanks for doing this car

I always thought of them as the "Swedish BMW". Definitely love the 2020 models they got!!
This one is simply brilliant. I’d own an 850 sedan or station wagon today. Interior wise they are a bit boring but outside...wow. Timeless.
I saw a yellow one in Sweden 2-3 years ago. The owner told its history to me
Maybe do a 240 wagon? I’m getting one soon and it’d make my day if you redesigned it.
Great redesign 😲
why add the rear door frame next to the tailights? it was way cleaner before! LOL
Very much like you Telsa Cyberwagon.... but both are great designs !!!
Known by enthusiasts simply as the Volvo T5, this was a favourite of motorway police here in the U.K.
Cool car really like it
Very nice!
Very good thoughts and history telling of the 850. In your redesign I think you should add new side mirrors and exhausts. What about a rear wiper?
Sleeper wagons are awesome. Should have added some wood paneling, though!
