    It’s difficult to live in certain poverty areas, especially Manila, where desperation drives people to do whatever they can to feed their family.
    Arnel, the lead singer of journey is a great testimony of growing up like this.
    As Americans, we see this is horrifying, but look at how responsible, hard-working and dedicated these children grow up to be so that their own children don’t have to live the way they did.

    Good work Tom! It is unfortunate to have kids in that situation. The root of the problem runs deep and branches out to different things. We can only do our part that for a brief moment we can impart some joy and respite from these kids lives.

    Yeah i remember seeing kids my age or even younger back then doing work just to survive, i was the lucky one but i felt like i didn't deserve it.
    The most notable memories i have is kids collecting garbage/recyclables and kids selling flowers and other stuff.

    This type of things are pretty common and its roots are deep embedded in the culture to the point that we have a metaphor for it "maagang nagbanat ng buto" or in literal English translation is "stretching his/her bones early or at young age".
    It is sad but as a Filipino adult, I hope we can build a better country for the children of tomorrow so they won't undergo this hardship anymore. Peace!

    At the age of 7/8 yrs. old, I clean our neighbor's house and I also do a car wash to get an allowance for my studies. At the age of 15, I'm already paying taxes officially as a Service Crew in one of the fast-food chains here in PH. Life is though here in PH, but somehow those experiences molded me to become who I am today and I'm still grateful for everything. I'm happy that we already have Batas Kasambahay Act, so that parents need to be more responsible.

    Me and my siblings experienced this growing up by helping our parents in selling food products, but unlike less fortunate kids, we only do this after school and still have time to play (we live in NCR where school is only for half a day).
    I agree that children should not be forced to earn a living and just enjoy their childhood, although on a positive note, I am glad that my parents taught us the value of hardwork at a young age and other life skills and lessons that allowed us to prosper and really enjoy life now that we are adults and have our own families.

    One of the reasons why RH law really needs to be implemented seriously. Poorer families need access and education about family planning the most.

    for a filipino i think its normal. i did that too.. i sell pandesal everyday, i wake up 3 am go to bakery and take some pandesal and sell it out to the streets. 6 am im home that time and prepare for school. i think it helps me a lot to become mature and value money. i thrived hard so that i can help my family.

  • @akio-hoshi119
    @akio-hoshi119 3 роки тому +1

    That is normal for Filipinos, especially not all people are perfect. Children who sell different kinds of goods are selling them so that they can have more money to get foods to eat and they can help to there parents.

    Birth control might be the mid-term solution to this problem. Unfortunately many lawmakers acquiesce to the dictates of the Catholic Church and hence not much positive stride towards legislation to curb population growth which, sadly, is much higher among the very poor population that could least afford a big family.

    • @janinebelleestrada7096

      We have birth control though nagdidistribute sila sa slums namin d2 ng free 5 to 10 pieces of condom per week pero for some goddamn reason lomolobo pa rin population d2 samin. What's worst walang gumagamit ng mga condom.

    I dont see a bad thing for this. Just to be positve me as i grow up nothing. And now i can stand alone without my parents support. Beacuse if the parents did not teach to be independent after the kids grow up they can handle well the problem or struggles.... it could be bad if they showing abused.. to the point that need a rescuer.

But still poor people gets poorer and the rich people still counting their cashes. We have a lot of people that have so much but choose to be blind . Those kids should be in school ,those kids should be having fun playing😣not sweating to earn something for the parents.God bless those kids😣

    Hi Tom, it is true. It’s sad but that’s the reality that needs to be solve. Philippines has a long way but the government is trying. Pres Duterte is doing he’s best to solve all the problem. All we need to do is to support him in ang way...

  • @MaxSujyPOL

    The problem not only in the Philippines but also in Thailand and most of SEA is that poor people are having more kids on average, and girls who get pregnant are younger. So these young parents drop out of school. Then, they end up with their kids helping them making low wages with their food stall or wtv because they don't make enough to pay for employees. So they use their child as an employee. I see that all the time in Thailand countryside. They then hope that their child(s) will take care of them went they get older, because for example in Thailand, the elderly don't receive much financial or retirement money every month. They can't self sustain. Both Thailand and The Philippines don't believe in Abortion, and we know for a fact that young pregnancy affects poor girls at a much higher rate. So if we do the math, the poor are screwed. So what I'm saying is, unless the teenage pregnancy rate goes down drastically, the Child Labor Act is just a facade. It's a looping circle that even exists in some black communities in the USA. The root of the cause is not Child Labor, but it's why Child Labor is even a thing and a necessity for some family to begin with.

    • @FindingTom
      @FindingTom  4 роки тому +1

      The government needs to do better. I think the act is helping a little bit according to the numbers but the real story here is that the government doesn't do enough to help the poor in this country. I agree about birth control and abortion. I don't want to blame the people too much because it's their government that is failing them here. Then things like vote buying ensure the powerful stay in power. Vote buying is such bullshit if you asked me.

    • @FindingTom
      @FindingTom  4 роки тому

      @Muffins Dela Cruz what about all the money I spend here, though? I buy food, pay for rent, buy electronics, buy wifi, buy travel, buy everything here. There's a reason why countries generally like to increase tourism, because that's dollars flowing into a country's economy. I'm not paying taxes directly, but the money I give to other businesses will get taxed and go to the government. Plus I'm helping local Filipinos by paying for their services and goods. To me that's more than good enough and something you've overlooked.

    This is just normal, but yes this is sad. I was 10 and I already knew how to wash our laundry and sell BBQ and Banana Q. Walking under the heat of a sun is fun somehow and you can meet lots of people. Thru those hard-works I became the person that what my parents want me to be- a responsible guy. And I learned a lot from those experiences I had. One thing was, there’s no really easy way on achieving ur dreams. No shortcuts and has lots of challenges. The other thing was, I learned how to calculate thru my mind. By that, I realized I was good in math LOL. Anyway, Those experiences had toughen me and it’s fun to share it with your friends. It was a great experiences tho :)

    Poverty- lack of education- teenage pregnancy- giving birth with no family plans- and whole repeatitive cycle until one comes into the senses of working them butt off to alleviate from the said cycle.

    Just to share a thought. This could look bad but the fact that majority of this kids are doing it to help their family and have something to eat. The government made a law but THIS SITUATION DOESN'T NEED A LAW, IT NEEDS ACTIONS. MOST OF THIS KIDS DO THIS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO. THEY HAVE TO BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT MIND TO HELP, THE JOBS ARE NOT ENOUGH FOR PARENTS MAKING KIDS THINK OF DOING THIS TO HELP. This is just a sad realization. Sorry.

    The person to blame is their parents coz what the hell on earth making babies that they can't even feed and give a bright future. It's engraved on Filipino culture having lots of children withuot thinking the outcome the important is today enjoying sex. Instead of making plan for a bright future, most Filipinos is much concern about lovelife that many women end up to a wrong irresponsible men coz of too much worrying of they ran out of men to be their partner everyone is desparate as young at teenage years. Phil is the highest fertility in the world 1k babies per second very alarming rate. How can our country feed them all and give job opportunities later on and the ending of this is put the blame on the government, very third world mentality.
