The most annoying and common bots on the platform are the ones that go like: "Can we just take a moment to appreciate how much effort he puts into his videos" and put a unrelated timestamp and the ones that say "it's finally here"
Those are the tame ones,. Haven't you seen tge ones that say " i love beating women" or i hate "n-word" or the ones that comment in all caps some stupid rage bait shitty comment
LUnisTechTips did exactly this as well. They got so fed up with bots spamming their videos that they even began using a script to get rid of all the spam.
2 years after this video was posted and the comment bots are worse than ever. Not just scams, spam, and stupid comments, but literally advocating illegal activities and linking to sites that show illegal content. UA-cam's response seems to be little more than "meh".
My favorites are the ones that chat with each other for some sort of financial investment genius guru like they're two-bit actors in a poorly directed comercial.
No lie, I actually got one of them to delete their comments by slandering the guru and claiming that I lost money with them. But interestingly before they deleted, they tried to defend the guru.
@@cartaphilus242 Oh no! i'm not even talking about anything that could possibly be construed as "hateful content". I'm talking about everything from talking about certain types of corruption and state propaganda to certain countries (but only the "good" ones) committing crimes against humanity.
The greatest default settings UA-cam gives to prevent this sort of stuff is “disable links in comments” and “blacklist phrases” like “it’s finally here”. I still click “allow all comments” for every vid I’ve only briefly had any sort of comment bot problem but after that, never. I’ve since been super strict about it, and along with the aforementioned settings, I have a ton of filters and a scripts in place (not sure if they’re still running these days though), it’s strict enough that there is collateral. I don’t really care though, my content is pretty mindless and most of the comments are too. However for anyone reading this who want some ideas, I’ve experimented with: If a person makes more than X identical comments they get instabanned from commenting and those comments get deleted If a persons comment/reply is “negative” enough (as determined by sentiment analysis) comment gets instantly deleted. This isn’t super effective by any means but I thought it was really funny, some people got PISSED. If a person has certain keywords in their username, automatically delete their comments. I originally wanted to do something that could identify anything that remotely looks like “WhatsApp” or whatever in the username but I was told it would be too computationally intensive. Idk how true that is but the idea is there. A more complex word blacklist system that can identify similar looking characters as what they are intended to be read as I might experiment with something like disallowing comments for the first [video length] of time since video is uploaded, or banning the word “first” for the first X minutes of a video upload just for the funnies too
It's the optics. Removing the dislike is easy, it makes them look like they are doing something significant. I don't think they can even come up with any solution to actually solving the bot problem here.
Some of these bots, particularly the ones I see on Penguinz0's comment section talk about non Combine related CP and insult Charlie. UA-cam took action when real predators were making comments where they would timestamp certain frames in videos involving children. I see no reason why they wouldn't do anything about these ones. Just like tf2's bots, these guys are fuckin degenerates and should get the silver bracelets
How come despite bots being so obvious that you could write a simple manual filter to catch them; Google's mighty algorithm lets them thru repeatedly despite reporting?
why is it I on a cooking vid not put a link to another cooking vid but these spam bots can post the same spam link in hundreds of replies on the same video?
The financial side of UA-cam is the worst tbh. Constant Bitcoin scams, impersonations, fake conversations, bots mass upvoting themselves. It never ends.
I'm of the opinion that google is doing this deliberately. A lot of my comments (and people responding to me) just vanish and are rendered inaccessible, and the bots are posting with impunity. Their priorities have been completely whack after they abandoned the "don't be evil" motto in 2015.
I'd say that it's simply not an issue for them, it doesn't not generate money nor it prevents them from making money, they just don't give a shit those greedy bastards
Of course, Google themselves are using bots in every social media possible, including their own UA-cam platform. They're not going to "fix" the bot situation, they enable it.
First season was just pr0n bots and random YT links. Season 2 was upgraded bots stealing other peoples comments, also the rise of verified bots. Season 3 was the rise of telegram bots and nick name bots, link bots got even crazier as well. Season 4 (current) are entire THREADS of bots discussing each other promoting financial scams trying to look legit..
Season 3 and 4 also has those racist bots that use racial slurs and have the swastika in their name and profile pic along with a nazi salute also. It's disgusting
My thoughts exactly. UA-cam is a multi-million dollar corporation and you're telling me they can't afford people to fix this mess? A'ight, makes sense I guess.
I mean if your going off just the UA-cam company than it’s like 180billion and your right. If your going off the parent company it’s worth 1.5trillion.
UA-cam hiding Dislikes, coupled with untreated bot problems like this makes it seem like they WANTED people to get misinformed lmao Imagine seeing a "guide" video, seeing that it has no dislikes because it's hidden, and the comments is stuff like "don't read my name!" And "can we appreciate the effort into these videos?"
It's a huge problem for livestreams as well. I have to use sub only mode, and the bots still come in now and then spamming with names containing malware links and suggestive words, implying its some sort of pornography. It's exhausting.
Something particularly nefarious is that this can be done intentionally in order to stifle discussion over an important topic. It's not done often but there have been times where there's something interesting and I go to the comment section to see what others are saying, and instead lose interest once I see a ton of bots or a single viewpoint being shared. The biggest concern is that the vast majority of societal changes arise as a result of consistent discussion since there needs to be organization. Kind of difficult to organize when you struggle finding real people that share similar views as yourself that don't coincide with the social norm...
Agreed. Certain UA-camrs who get hit really hard by the bots are nigh-impossible to read the comments on. I've given up on reading the comments on a penguinz0 video far too many times to count.
This is done on a lot of political videos... just go look at videos uploaded by Texas governor Greg Abbott and see the bots all literally repeating the exact same comments
I honestly can’t believe there aren’t more news stories about this. It feels like something that annoys and bothers so many people, and yet no-one in the mainstream media bothers to talk about it, even when the bots are spamming shit about child r@p3 and dead content creators.
Yeah like I delete any bot comments I can find But overall how I would fix this if possible is straight up shadow ban or auto delete comments that post links But still it’s pretty dam difficult issue to fix
Yeah, the problem with reporting those is that even if they get terminated, they are just spam accounts. The videos that show on the channel are actually just linked from the main channel. The main channel doesn't comment spam so it doesn't get busted.
theyre all either: > sick bots mocking the death of an influencer/a person to promote their "content" > "finally its here, inserts link" > "ratio + yb better + this you", whoever that zharon guy is > nsfw links with their nsfw profiles > "WOWW YOU DONT READ MY PROFILE PICTURE" "dont read my profile picture" > simple bots promoting their bland music/content > the religious bot > "can we appreciate the effort" comments > mrbeast profile pictures
They really need a report username/profile picture/impersonation function. 90% of the time you can tell the bots just by their usernames being really inappropriate or an impersonation of a big content creator. The fact that the filters are limited to comments and not inappropriate usernames is kind of ridiculous, when if you made a thumbnail with one of those account’s profile pictures, it would get flagged by youtube so fast.
@@keyboardmaverick1100 type a space, then an asterisk (these things *) then the word, then another asterisk, then a space. It should look like *this*. As in * this * but without the spaces between the this and the asterisks.
I can't believe this didn't get fixed when techno passed.... I've never even watched him but bots at the time were leaving straight up evil comments about him and they still didn't care enough to actually fvckin fix their system.
A worse techno hate bots has been going rampant now on MULTIPLE FUCKING CHANNELS, SAYING A BYPASSED N WORD WITH HARD R. How is UA-cam so blind in these kind of situation? Like holy shit that's the worse one yet
@@BlueRGuy Not only techno, but I've also seen bots poking fun at Markiplier's niece who died 4 years ago. The comments on the his videos about her death are even worse just filled with bots saying the most vile things about his long since passed niece and her father.
The fact someone like ThioJoe manage to make a tool that can detect and report bots with ease, I honestly have no idea why UA-cam can't fix or minigate it
If they do, the bots will just change to evade. Not that this should stop them, but bots are always going to be a thing and the best that can be done is minimize their impact on the users enjoyment.
Because trying to get rid of bots will cost more money than they would make in the short term. They’re not even being standout greedy here. It’s simple cost-effectiveness analysis. Fuck capitalism

Today I kept getting a bunch of comment bot spam replies saying “is finally here” under my comments, I saw it popped up on my notifications and realized it had a link to the video is advertising.
The youtube shorts bots just have an entire catalog of the same video that they uploaded 400 times in the last hour and you just get bombarded every 4 swipes with a blatant scam video.
I keep getting stuff about "follow this dude, he's giving away money" or something about free robux that targets children. I keep reporting them, but it's like a Hydra.
It’s genuinely insane how bad the comment bots have gotten; the first *two* notifications that I got on my account were comment bots linking to some random website Let me repeat that The situation is *so bad* that people are literally having their first *notifications* be robots reply to one of your comments or commenting on one of your videos
@@parakeetbudgie you really shouldn’t be clicking on links like that; there’s a lot of sites that just infect your device or PC by just clicking on links to the website. It’s so terrifying how easy it is to get malware nowadays
One time, I saw inappropriate comments from comment bots when I checked the comment section for a video I watched. There was also comment bots that say racial sl*rs and/or have a racial sl*r in their channel name. What makes me angry about this is that UA-cam is never gonna do anything about the comment bots.
I tweeted at UA-cam about it at first being pedo comments and/or impersonations and they only told me to report. They don’t give a sh*t about what we have to say. Now these bots are using racial slurs
I rarely engage in the comment section anymore because of how fucking prolific the bots have become. Usually you can tell when there's a human on the other end of a comment, but then there's the times where it could be someone that just doesn't give a shit about spelling/grammar/punctuation, someone that doesn't grasp English, or a god damned bot. It's shame too because the comments section used to be a fun melting pot of discourse to either join in on or laugh at and while I see the concept comment threads/forums/reply sections or what have you as digitally screaming in to the void, except the void is an innumerable amount of microcosms that only exist to those participating in them, I at least like to scream in the void with other sapients.
It was always a cesspool all the way back in 2009 buddy, the bots just add more shit to the septic tank. I remember how I used to engage in countless flame wars in the comments section before I just decided to turn off notifications for replies lol
I’ve been seeing bot comments that are racist or talking about how they do unspeakable things to loved ones of creators, children and animals. It’s fucking disgusting.
What UA-cam needs to do is to allow creators to shadow-ban username strings, and grab these bans from checkmarked accounts and the most repeated entries get migrated to the whole site automatically. That totally eliminates these bots. And for impersonators... I don't think it's rocket science, but if an username and pfp has a 95% or higher match to the channel they are posting a comment on, should be automatically ghosted, banned or held for review.
To an extent its an arms race but some of this stuff is just obvious. Like when you click in critikals comments and every comment has a reply from the same person. This "person" left 10plus comments very likely bot behavior, especially when it's all the same text. After 10 comments in a rapid amount of time auto hide for review 90% of problem fixed.
oh my god yeah i've seen that bot too!! it's always shit like "im better than penguinz0", i wanna report every comment i see but i don't want youtube to yell at me for spam reporting 💀
I have an idea for this: Put a pretty long delay before comments actually show up on the videos. A lot of anti-cheats have wave-bans so the cheat client developers can't just figure out what's getting them banned and immediately patch it, and instead they get banned like 4 hours later to make it more difficult to test their bypasses. The same way, if there was like a 6 hour delay before comments got posted, combined with the strong AIs over at UA-cam, it would be much less of a cat and mouse game, since UA-cam's AI has the time advantage on their side, and it would take spammers like a year to figure out bypasses that they currently do in a week.
Agreed also its also fix those early commenter that not even watch the video that fishing early likes and clout saying "thank you for this quality, its a good day ____ is uploading, i hope you all well and happy today, etc" these shallow ass comments needs to die
@@Nahan_Boker94Agreed. And... would you look at that! See those words above your comment? There's a guy who didn't receive enough attention from his peers and relies on internet rage to calm his insecurities and prove he still has power!
Correction: The comment section WAS the best part. Aside from the bots, when they made dislikes useless, the comments became crap. It's just generic BS, stolen jokes, and pandering. YT comments have been pathetic since around the mid-2010s.
Correct, it has annoyed me to be honest on so many channels people just can't make a normal comment, it's all just boring ass jokes you quite literally see 1500x on the same video like Me : omg (insert text) Also me: 👀 Or whatever, even just cornier ones that are literally just repeating what the video contains like hello mf? we also have eyes and ears, don't need you to repeat that shit because you can't make a regular comment regarding the video or topic.
Maybe its because I watch different stuff than you but the videos I watch have an active discussion. I see some bots, some people are trolls, and some are probably people just venting online, but most comment are people having a conversation.
One joke that gets on my nerves a loy now is, "When the world needed rhim most, he finally returned!" or something like that. I see it all the time and it always gets a lot of likes, so it's near the top.
@@sirnunyabuiz6529 those can be really funny IMO. It’s dumb and overblown but some can be good and like many things, it can get a chuckle but I do agree with everything said. Also repeating with a timestamp in the comments can be good for the best bits, although it’s not as needed since they added the replay feature.

They're not going to. I've been keeping a bookmark folder of all of the ones I've straight up reported the account of. Weeks later every single one of them are still around, spamming their scams. They don't care. It's just more interaction to them. I am legitimately starting to wonder if maybe they're even behind it trying to make extra money.
What bothers me is all the fake accounts with no content or subscribers commenting democratic ideologies and dismissing all content that doesn't support their narrative. That needs to change.
Ive Seen Different Bots That Say The Same Thing Like for example "Omg (Link To 18+ Website) I've Been Looking For Motivation Can You Post A Video Of Your Workout Routine" Or smth like that it is so annoying
It's a strange situation. This issue can't be fixed if we don't talk about it, but by talking about it you give the bots exactly what they want, thus ultimately just giving them more incentive to keep making those comments. The only way to truly win is to ignore them, but ignoring them doesn't really solve the issue either. (I am mostly referring to the troll/bait bots here to be fair, but it does also apply to some other type of bots to a lesser extent)
I got a better answer. Give region locking to every uploader (corporate entities can region-lock videos already), block 2nd and 3rd world nations from the video. Most of the "big" phone farmers operate from places like India, Bangladesh or Egypt for the reason of cheap mobile service.
I always find the comments where the bots are talking to each other about some "Professional Broker/Stock Market Analyst" pretty darn hilarious. I end up joining in and making dumb as heck replies like: "Oh yes, I have talked to that Analyst! They called me racial slurs and slept with my friend's Grandma. I totally wouldn't recommend them, they're huffing the devils lettuce."
Thanks for talking about this. I'm here because an attempt to explain a previous comment was sarcasm was mysteriously deleted from the comments - it doesn't show up in my comment history either. It was an innocuous comment about sarcasm sometimes not working very well when writing comments. Very weird.
Stop do you know these comments section is there please youtube that's enough deleting just bring back the dislikes and everything else no more deleting
Also, If you're looking for more proof they are bots, check each channels 'About' section. They are usually all made within the same time frame. Obviously this isn't very helpful if it's just one bot
UA-cam knows that the issue is out of control, and they've acknowledged it, but they clearly don't care enough to want to fix it. And that, is really sad to see.
3:50 the bots take comments from the same comment section they're in. I'll see a real person with a regular name and pfp say something, and then a bot further down say the same thing.

The bots are getting out of hand, especially when it comes to being very negative when it comes to the passing of someone. It sucks that we'd have to go to Twitter to reach out to them. What happens if Twitter does get shut down one day? UA-cam, get your butt together. ...Please.
I’ve been saying this for months. Seeing every single comment being promoted with stupid shit under it gets under my skin- and it really pisses me off when it’s under MY comment
Came back to this video after seeing bot after bot on Muta's latest video. UA-cam needs to get their shit together, but we all know they won't. I can barely scroll through a top comment's reply section without having to sort through a bunch of bots shouting profanity, advertising their channel, or laughing at someone's death.
Same. I'm getting sick of seeing those bots everywhere, and they occasionally retaliate once you tried to confront them. And about laughing someone's death. Channels like Logan Roof deserves to be banned for life.
One of the biggest issue is that I feel that UA-cam punishes these channels that have spam comments, because it gets sense that you have low watch time and many spam comments.... so it's hard when you are starting out :/
As a UA-camr who doesn't really get much engagement, it warms my heart to see the comment notifications and then open it up to find a German bot advertising an adult site.
@UCVJ7hybtSpkqjKj93KDMbew he keeps saying the N word and says he's makes better videos but I think he's using a bot to spam these stupid comments everywhere
I get some weird random german comments that Google translate to for example "All very nice. But first the numbers 10 and 1 together. One brunette and another blonde. It would be unfair if I chose 4" which also seems to have some link in it, which I've removed for obvious reasons.
Lately some of the comments I've been reading from those bots have been very vulgar and degrading... Clearly I can't repeat what they're saying... but I'm sure people know exactly what I'm talking about.
btw. this is exactly why i fell in love and got addicted to youtube in the first place. the comment section. the heated discussion that ensued after the video was posted. and not necessarily the video itself. but now it is totally ruined. i was never receiving much replies, one or two sometimes. but it was still nice to have someone to respond to my idea with their own. now i only receive scams back. 😅
Imagine someone having an argument over a game of Uno in the comment section like in that MW2 video. I have to agree, I do miss when people can act childish in a debate and you'd just be sitting there eating popcorn, seeing how the dick measuring contest will unfold.
Thank you so much for bringing this up! It's been pissing me off these last couple of weeks and usually prevents proper comment discussions from happening as these are really distracting. I fear that these bots have malicious links that could pose future security breaches and as someone who had a pretty stressful experience from account security in the past, I wish this actually gets fixed up properly, much like the myriad of other big issues showing UA-cam's cracks in management design.
I'm seeing so much "CaN We TaKe a MoMeNt To ApPreCiaTe ThE EfForT..." and "I'm better than X person, come check my content." They're so annoying and common.
Its finally here… Feels like I’ve seen a lot more bots recently than I used to. I actually have seen some with fake checkmarks pretending to be real youtubers, or even pretending to be the person who made the video (with a fake checkmark ofc). Its like a bunch of channels are infested with these things.
So, let me get this straight. Your proposed solution is to give YT channels that put out videos more control over how moderation is applied to their comment sections, with more, and more specific controls for doing so from which they can choose what fits their particular situation and audience best? Seems pretty reasonable to me. It's a shame it is, because that spells the death of that idea. You can't get Google to do reasonable things if you suggest doing so. Your best bet is to complain, get other people to complain, SUGGEST NOTHING, and hope that when Google throws a dart into their "solutions" dartboard it lands on what's sensible, and not on the "Send photos of your ID to verify you're human or be banned from commenting globally" section.
Can we all agree that the bots are a massive disgusting problem but it feels pretty sus how youtube hasn't been able to moderate them? I mean bots will always be everywhere but it feels weird that lately they've taken so much ground and youtube is still doing nothing.
I try to do my part reporting the bots, but it’s just slapping bandaids at this point, FFS, I’d like to go through comment chains and not being bombarded by the same set of bots, over and over. Especially, the ones promoting some questionable things. I’ll be shocked if UA-cam even manages to acknowledge the problem, much less proactively deal with them.
well if you just do a search of chat bots, there are thousands of web sites that you can get bots from most you have to pay to use them, but i know people leaked those on the net and others reprogram them to do or say whatever they want, in some ways the net is still the wild west
What's worse is that it doesn't seam to do anything. Before this, UA-cam would completely remove the comment and it would never come back if you happened to refresh. Now it comes back every time you do so and I feel like it has 0 effect on them. Like one bot I reported like 6 months ago and it was still there.
@@Twinklethefox9022 Yeah. There’s one bot in particular I’ve seen in a ton of videos lately, always with the same comment (“ likes to ‘behave inappropriately with children,’ and my content is better!”) I flag it every time, but as soon as I refresh, it’s still there and the “channel” associated with it has been going since 2019.
UA-cam should not offer to block comments from users who aren't 1-week subscribed, BUT it would be brilliant to hold those for review or to make the long term subs less likely held for review.
9:09 Hmmmm no. That would only stop the bots for the first week released, but the bots would then remain unaffected as they just need to plan one week ahead subscribing early. That would severely harm the regular user and make comment sections worse in every way.
Yeah, plus that change would kind of kill the virality that makes UA-cam work as a platform. If you need to be a subscriber to comment, then channels that use the feature will take a lot longer to grow because people can't fully engage with their videos unless they've been watching for a while.

The greatest default settings UA-cam gives to prevent this sort of stuff is “disable links in comments” and “blacklist phrases” like “it’s finally here”. I still click “allow all comments” for every vid
I’ve only briefly had any sort of comment bot problem but after that, never. I’ve since been super strict about it, and along with the aforementioned settings, I have a ton of filters and a scripts in place (not sure if they’re still running these days though), it’s strict enough that there is collateral. I don’t really care though, my content is pretty mindless and most of the comments are too. However for anyone reading this who want some ideas, I’ve experimented with:
If a person makes more than X identical comments they get instabanned from commenting and those comments get deleted
If a persons comment/reply is “negative” enough (as determined by sentiment analysis) comment gets instantly deleted.
A more complex word blacklist system that can identify similar looking characters as what they are intended to be read as
I might experiment with something like disallowing comments for the first [video length] of time since video is uploaded, or banning the word “first” for the first X minutes of a video upload just for the funnies too

@Captain Child尺卂卩乇my brain hurts

"Oh yes, I have talked to that Analyst! They called me racial slurs and slept with my friend's Grandma. I totally wouldn't recommend them, they're huffing the devils lettuce."
Yeah I ve done that lol
Thanks for talking about this. I'm here because an attempt to explain a previous comment was sarcasm was mysteriously deleted from the comments - it doesn't show up in my comment history either. It was an innocuous comment about sarcasm sometimes not working very well when writing comments. Very weird.

I fully agree with that. Like roaches across an unclean floor, bot accounts sprawl across both social media platforms and the internet.
UA-cam no longer allowing channels to hide their subscriber count is one of the only good things they've done in recent years.
First
very much agreed
The worst part about these spam bots is that they can upload videos. UA-cam is becoming worse. Let’s fire the ceo and get a new one
UA-cam 2023: "We've decided to remove the comment section. You know, some websites don't even have one."
Stop do you know these comments section is there please youtube that's enough deleting just bring back the dislikes and everything else no more deleting
I've noticed alot more bots that will say random racial slurs and make references to r$pe and abuse
There is a comment bot that only viewers can see and the creator of the video can’t see it so there’s nothing they can do
The ones I DETEST the most are “ IF YOURE READING THIS,KNOW THAT YOURE LOVED AND THINGS WILL GET BETTER”. Aaaaaa!!!🤬
Taking care of YT comment bots is like fighting a hydra; once one is down, 2 more appear
Unless you're Kratos
YT might just hire people to report/ delete bots
That's where you go for the 'Queen Head'. Then they stop.
Try to erase the body
@Kavetion if you’re better than him then why is your video on my worst videos playlist lmao
3:50 the bots take comments from the same comment section they're in. I'll see a real person with a regular name and pfp say something, and then a bot further down say the same thing.
Huh, odd

The bots are getting out of hand, especially when it comes to being very negative when it comes to the passing of someone. It sucks that we'd have to go to Twitter to reach out to them. What happens if Twitter does get shut down one day? UA-cam, get your butt together.

I’ve been saying this for months. Seeing every single comment being promoted with stupid shit under it gets under my skin- and it really pisses me off when it’s under MY comment
Penguinz0 definitely has the worst case of comment bots. The first 10 replies on every comment are bots
I miss the days where yt bots weren't as common as they are right now

@@RvBnerd618 exactly good old days!
I'm seeing so much "CaN We TaKe a MoMeNt To ApPreCiaTe ThE EfForT..." and "I'm better than X person, come check my content."
They're so annoying and common.
Its finally here…
Feels like I’ve seen a lot more bots recently than I used to.

I can easily spot a bot and scammer on YT
Its all Susans fault ever since she became CEO UA-cam has been going downhill ever since
What's worse is that it doesn't seam to do anything.
@@kaineandrews3790 i'd honestly like to find whoever finds that funny and slap it out of it's senses
Ever since they allowed links in comments the bots went wild.
So true.
UA-cam should make a better block system that actually blocks you from seeing anything from a channel like comments and their channel entirely
UA-cam should not offer to block comments from users who aren't 1-week subscribed, BUT it would be brilliant to hold those for review or to make the long term subs less likely held for review.
The spam bots do get irritating especially when they spam the same comment hundreds of times.
Inr
“Let’s get beyond the shaker”
Swear to god these are the only ad read I never skip xD
9:09 Hmmmm no. That would only stop the bots for the first week released, but the bots would then remain unaffected as they just need to plan one week ahead subscribing early.
That would severely harm the regular user and make comment sections worse in every way.
Yeah, plus that change would kind of kill the virality that makes UA-cam work as a platform. If you need to be a subscriber to comment, then channels that use the feature will take a lot longer to grow because people can't fully engage with their videos unless they've been watching for a while.
@@aslandus why not just implement a feature that stops anyone without a VERIFIED phone number and email from creating a UA-cam account
