    Little update on the court case: The judge dismissed the counterclaims made by the TikTok Psychic because the accusations made were “baseless” and didn’t come from anyone reliable. The professor has won the defamation lawsuit as they were able to provide a lot of evidence that because of Ashley’s claims, people immediately associate the professor with the murders. They even showed that her name is one of the first things you see when searching up the murder case.
    TLDR: Ashley’s claims were dismissed and Rebecca won the court case.

    One of the victims, Ethan, was a middle school friend of mine. He was a chill dude who was really freaking tall, at least in middle school. I didn't know him enough to be _as_ devastated as his other peers and family, he probably didn't remember me. However I'm still affected by this for another reason.
    I've seen newspapers turn this event into the paper equivalent of click bait. It's gross. They try to make something genuinely horrible look like another celebrity outrage. Arrows, conspiracies, bold text, they are trying to grab the attention of already affected people so they can monetize the death; the despair. My brother goes to the same University, I couldn't even imagine what I would feel if they monetized the death of my brother.
    They treat it the same way they treat celebrity shit like "KIM HAS SAGGY ARMPITS??!!" or "TRUMP SAID SOMETHING OFFENSIVE AGAIN??!!" and I think that's just inappropriate and selfish. Treat it with the respect the victims' families and friends deserve. It's disgusting seeing how many people try to use a tragedy to bring profit towards themselves.

    The fact that she’s so confident about not losing the court case tells me she’s probably terrified on the inside. This type of thing has been happening more and more publicly with social media, and in the end they either don’t show up to court at all, or they show up and try to act defiant. I’m guessing if she does show up she’s gonna try and act tough till the bitter end when the judge tells her that she owes Rebecca tens of thousands of dollars.

      Anyone with an actual interest in Tarots reading that isn't trying to sell you something will tell you that the cards are to be read directly together with the person you are reading them for, asking questions and, even if you 100% believe in magic, they would only suggest answers to explicitely targeted issues.
      They don't give you visions of the future or past, they are a tool for fortune telling and to decide how to act.

      I don't believe in the accuracy of readings etc. personally, but I'm pretty sure in the world of tarot that readings for someone who's unaware/gives no consent are not only unethical, but considered inaccurate and unreliable even by believers' standards. I'm pretty sure half the point is for someone invested in the reading to interpret the results and connect their own feelings with them. So if no one involved with the subject is present, it defeats the entire purpose.

Please, let's not pretend there is anything valid about baseless magical thinking like this... Proximity literally could not be any more meaningless in this situation, because tarot is bullshit full stop. This is like saying homeopathy should only be performed by a "licensed professional," implying that there's some kind of danger in an "amateur" diluting shit until it essentially no longer exists in a solution. • @shade467
      @shade467 2 роки тому +8

      @@threemoo as someone without a legal background, idk if she can be sued for anything else but libel is a misdemeanor in idaho which explains the seemingly light sentence. A misdemeanor still shows up on your criminal record and could affect things like your ability to find a job so there are negative consequences beyond the initial fine/jail sentence. I'm honestly not sure if anything can deter someone this delusional and I don't think she has thought about the consequences of her actions.
      In the UK, based on what I've been able to find online, defamation is handled in civil action lawsuits where damages are awarded to make up for financial loss caused by defamation if the person suing for defamation wins. It is not a criminal matter. According to one English solicitor's website, the highest amount of damages awarded for libel is £300,000 so the ceiling is definitely higher than it is in Idaho. However, having looked into the case further (Barron vs Collins), it seems like £54,000 had to be paid to multiple people who had been defamed and then the defendant had to pay the claimant's £120,000 legal fees so the £300,000 figure is a little misleading.

    I worked with a girl who reminded me of this lady. She would say outlandish things and claimed to be psychic. Saying things like she was connected to nature on could speak with the bees. One of my coworkers caught a video of her yelling at a foam cup. I brushed it off until she started saying things that really became concerning, something like having a shovel in the trunk of her car, her family was part of the mafia, and just crazy violent shit. It happened a while ago so i dont remember much. But it got to the point other workers and myself got concerned for our own safety. We ended up reporting her and she was let go.

    My best friend has tarot cards and has given me readings before, but she doesn't claim she can solve murders or have visions to confirm some random bullshit. Her readings for me have been vaguely accurate, because the thing with tarot cards is that you can interpret the cards you get so they fit what you imagine for yourself. I find it quite interesting when it's harmless - unlike this woman using this tarot reading and visions to frame a random innocent woman.

I told my mum she was just saying stuff based on what we said before the readings as she would always have some tea with us and ask a bunch of life questions and questions about my dad. One time I said a bunch of bs about how my dad used to drive a tractor for a living which was complete bullshit and during the reading she started talking about seeing a tractor and lots of smiles. I can’t believe people are trying to get “clout” from this situation and I can’t imagine how the family and some of my friends closer to them feel. Like how disrespectful that situation is. It was horrible to hear about and I’m glad they cleared it up. I’m baffled about how big the situation got however considering how small of an area this is. As someone who lives in the city and knew the kids who died, I have to experience stuff like this IN PERSON with people. Some people have been coming up with crazy crazy stories. Like at my job some lady came up saying they were all members of some satanic cult. Our community is in mourning and scared, but some people just can't let it be

    • @megladon6
      @megladon6 2 роки тому +28

      It sucks but it’s pretty common in tragedies like this. What’s scarier? That an evil satanic cult took itself out, that this was a scorned lover etc. or that this was genuinely random and could happen to any of us at literally any time.
      These people are trying to rationalize their own fear by projecting a new reality on to the situation. One where they couldn’t possibly be the victim because they didn’t do (x). They just don’t realize that they are so far up their own ass in their rationalization fantasy that they hurt the rest of us in reality.
      Events like these should serve as reminders to love those around us, live in the moment, and to always strive to pursue the greater good.
      Hope y’all can heal from this experience, and hopefully one day feel safe again.

    Two of the main aspects for determining criminal insanity is a complete lack of understanding of the consequences of your actions and showing no sophisticated sense of self-preservation for the facing of those consequences. If she was in her right mind & was simply just doing this sociopathically for internet clout, there's no chance at all she would continue to double-down on her baseless accusations after being sued for tens of thousands of dollars. She's clearly not attached to reality in the slightest.

The police are working their asses off and the Police chief was almost in tears when they found the guy. Its easy to disconnect yourself from a tragedy when you are nowhere near involved in it, but keep in mind that what you say about this stuff truly can hurt people and there are students and family that will forever be emotionally traumatized by this event. Just think about how youd feel if this all happened to someone you know and then decide if the attention youre seeking is worth it. Most importantly though, tell your friends you care about them, you never know when the last time you'll see them is. Stay safe everyone.

      @@lateral1385 Ya know I’m not the most qualified to answer that but to be transparent I think a lot of the people here haven’t ever experienced something of this magnitude. Nobody (that I know) knows how to feel about it because generally speaking this area has been known for being really safe. We will know once all the evidence is presented in court, but that’s just more to the point that even people living here at the University aren’t 100% sure what’s going on and haven’t been told a lot of information to preserve the integrity of the case in court; so if the people most directly impacted by this aren’t sure of the details then there’s no way in hell someone is going to know what’s going on and understand the school, the professors, and the community by reading a tarot card. However like I said, I don’t know shit, even my friends that have classes with these people don’t know anything, so that’s just my opinion. All I can hope for is that the families of the students find peace and can cherish the lives that they had.
