    I love that you actually know the difference between an hourglass and a pear. I've watched so many videos where people think it's the same thing and it's not! I've recently understood what looks good on my hourglass shape and what doesn't and these tips are so correct! Unfortunately I've had to get rid of a lot of clothes but at least now I'm buying the right things to fit my hourglass shape. Thanks for this video! ❤

    I am an hourglass. Hourglass figures gain and lose weight evenly all over their bodies all other figure shapes gain and lose in specific areas. We are the last for others to really notice a 5-10 lb weight gain or loss. I have to gain or lose 15-20 lbs before someone makes a comment. My shoulders, bust and bottom are the same measurements and my waist is always 12" smaller no matter what weight I am. I am grateful to be an hourglass. Most of my friends are pears and apples. I wouldn't want to deal with gaining weight in my stomach or rear. My one pear friend has to change up her pant size if she gains 5 lbs. She is always complaining about it. I can gain 5 -10 lbs and still wear the same size pants!

      That's me exactly! Almost nobody makes pants for a 12" difference between hips and waist. It's a very hard body to shop for. Especially if you add in being taller than average 😢

    Thank you so much for this and the "find your personal style" videos. They have been very informative. The only celebrity that has a body shape similar to mine is Salma Hayek (although I am heaver than she is right now) Most celebrities and models are not as short as us. It is difficult to dress a petite hourglass shape and I am in my fifities so I have that added element to think about. I admit that for the last few years I have been wearing the oversized tops that hide my shape and make me look heavier. I kind of gave up. I am determined to change this and am thankful that I found your channel. I have been binge watching your videos. Based on the ones I have seen, I believe my personal style is romantic, minimal and edgy. I like boho and classy but know I need to keep it simple. I am actually laughing right now becuase the way I was dressing when I cared, was all over the place. I have a lot of useless (to me) clothes to get rid of and I need to do some shopping. Can I find information about your business on this youtube channel or do you have a website?

    I’m an hourglass with small bust (neat/bottom hourglass), my measurements: shoulders-bust-waist-hips: 37-33-25-37, I’m 5’3”. Wearing jeans is a real challenge, they’re too big on the waist and either fit nicely or too tight on hips. High waist/mid rise bootcut/flared/wide leg pants are perfect! For dresses I prefer bodycon/circle/A-line midi dresses sometimes wearing with belt. Love peplum, sometimes crop tops, waistcoats. I tend to avoid balloon/puff/cap sleeves

      Thanks for your comment. Whatever you choose to wear as an hourglass whether you prefer more revealing outfits or more modest ones, you want to think about defining the waist. Clothing does not need to be tight but rather structured so it neither shows nor hides the body. Eva Mendes does this beautifully. Do a google style search for her to get some inspiration.

      I am a true hourglass, and don't like "bombshell" styles, so I just wear very slim shaped pants with a very shaped top, think bootcut jeans and a slim turtleneck sweater. I also wear a lot of dresses that are more of an a-line style and just add a belt to emphasize my waist. Ankle pants in the summer with very sleek stretch tees that are boatneck and 3/4 sleeves are also comfy and show my shape well.

    • @EricaBallStyle
      @EricaBallStyle  Рік тому +5

      Most women struggle with some part of their body. Unfortunately, this isn't talked about enough. We think we need to be "perfect" instead of just embracing all of our different body shapes and sizes.
      In terms of styling an hourglass with a short torso, you can try wearing mid-rise or even low-rise bottoms to give the appearance of a longer torso.
      I also think the support and guidance of a Personal Stylist can be super helpful to love how you feel in your clothes ericaballstyle.com/personal-styling-services/ ❤

    Basically none of the trendy styles of today work on us 😂 I look forward to a time when everything isn't oversized, and chic, feminine, form fitting clothes are cool again.
    It almost seems like a political feminist statement now to not wear form fitting, feminine clothing, but I think hyperfemininity is gradually becoming its own statement of empowerment. We can just enjoy being traditionally womanly for ourselves and not specifically dress for men, but because it's easy for hourglasses to look "sexy" even while covered, people may assume we're always trying to get attention 😑

      Well said. As a married mother of 3, I avoid anything too fitted or body con because I want to be taken seriously. I'm not looking to accentuate my attributes or define my waist and bust too much. This advice about the fluid fabrics and streamlined as well as knitted materials has worked amazingly for me. I also wear bright lipstick and big earrings to draw attention to my face Rather than my chest. I also wear necklines that don't reveal cleavage and that helps a lot.

    I think I’m an hourglass because my shoulders and my hips are pretty much the same width, I used to have a big bust, but I’ve lost weight so my bus is smaller, but how do you know if you have a short waist or not? I am a fairly thin hourglass, but I do love to accentuate my waist, I just don’t know how high my rise of my pants should be because I don’t know if my waist is short or average… How could you tell?

    • @EricaBallStyle

      Great question Lisa! An easy way to know if you have a short waist is by trying on a high-waisted pair of jeans. If it feels like the waist comes right below your bust, then you may be short-waisted.

Body shape is about frame, bone structure and not fat. Shoulders, waist, hips are bones while breasts are fat. You can see the X silhouette from shoulders to hips even if your bust is small. I’m myself a bottom hourglass with measurements shoulders-bust-waist-hips 37-33-25-37, when I gain weight I gain weight evenly except the waist tend to stay the same, same when I lose weight I lose weight evenly including losing some inches on the waist

    Very interesting, though mildly annoying with the frequent use of the word "flattering". I liked the side by side comparisons of how different styling of similar pieces changes the look on the body, but the general tone of you NEED to show your shape to look good was a bit off-putting. I'm an hourglass shape, and I loathe the use of the term flattering when what you really mean is thinner/smaller.

    • @raquel5401
      @raquel5401 10 місяців тому +3

      I think flattering can just mean it follows your shape, since hourglass figures really don't do well with bulk around the middle, as we become shapeless lumps. This is true for me when I am skinny in a size 6, and when I am much heavier in a size 14/16, and I have been both.
