Thank you so much! 🥰 you've explained this so well. I was trying to figure out what shape am I. I was between the boyish and hourglass now I know that I'm an hourglass shape, because my shoulders are broad, and my bust and hips are the same proportion and my waist is not too small .
Great video….very informative! You helped me confirm that I am an inverted triangle (carrot) shape…..I always assumed i was more apple shaped…..but, I think that was more due to having children without exercise. Now that I am exercising, my proportions are very defined. I look forward to a body shape specific video in the future.
This is amazing! I think I am apple shaped but I might be a bit of a mix. It’s helpful to see celebrities who are the same type with different heights and sizes.
Hey Erica, great video I really enjoyed this! It was so educational & insightful. I now have a better idea of what my body type now is, I’m leaning towards both pear-shaped and rectangular almost but my measurements would help me clarify. Thank you! Keep it up!
very helpful! I've always thought I was an apple but recently someone told me I was a pear. But my butt is flat and my middle is full. That HAS to be an apple. Describing how the body changes as you get older/gain weight has helped me determine I am an apple. THANKYOU!
I’m glad that you touched upon that there are different nuances of each body shape, so that has to be taken into consideration when dressing for their body shape. For example, Katie Holmes and Halle Berry are both triangles, but Katie is the classic “pear” where she has larger hips, while Halle doesn’t have larger hips but she has larger thighs. I’n also glad that you touched upon that not all apple body types are plus-sized. There are apples that are “slim” as well as mid-sized.
I’m between an hourglass and a rectangle. My waist is 2 inches larger with than it should be for a perfect waist:hip ratio. But this is because my frame is short/petite, very narrow and delicate, and I’m just too short-waisted to have a big indent at the waist. My ribs sit right on my hipbones, there’s just not enough vertical space for narrowing between them. I used to obsess on my “too narrow” hips and shoulders and “bigger waist”, but not anymore, I’ve just learned to style my shape better.
This was really informative…..I’ve always wondered what my shape is….I think I was a pear in my younger years….but now I’ve become an hourglass….my top and bottom sizes are the same and my waist is half an inch smaller than what you described but my chest is not big….as I do weight train the fullness has left….I do enjoy dressing myself though! Lol.
Thanks for your comment Carolyn! I def have experienced women's body shapes changing or leaning towards a different shape as they get older. If you're not curvy on the top or bottom you may be more of a rectangle shape. But if you do have curves with a smaller waist then you are most likely an hourglass. 😊
I’m definitely pear. I’ve lost 80lbs, and am still a pear. When I was heavier I was closer to an hourglass, but most of the weight came off of my torso, shoulders etc. I lose weight from the top down, and the top of the thighs/hips are much wider than my shoulders now. I would think most pre-menopausal women would be pears, with numbers shifting to apple and straight after menopause. Good to know! I enjoyed your video.

Hi Syria! Not to confuse you more, but I'm wondering if you are more of a pear shape? Do you tend to need a bigger size on the bottom than on the top? Inverted triangles generally have small hips in comparison to their shoulders. And rectangle shapes have very similar measurements between their bust, waist, and hips.
@@EricaBallStyleYes! My lower body is bigger than my upper body, and I sometimes have to find pants that fight just right. I can see myself being more of a pear since I have fuller hips and thighs compared to my bust and shoulders.

I have watched so many body shaped videos through the years. Before I had children, I took all the measurements and it was obvious I was an hour glass. Considering it's only 8% of women, it was hard to believe even back then. Finding clothes that fit has always been a struggle. After having 3 children and Perimenopause now I have more weight around my midsection. My abdominal muscles are slack. But my bust is also even larger. I've been trying to figure out did I become an apple or a rectangle or maybe I'm still just an overweight hour glass? It's so confusing. After listening to your video and looking at the photos, I think I'm just an overweight hour glass LOL. When I lose weight, it's always from my tummy first. Thank you for this
You are welcome! It can definitely be confusing. If your bust and hips are still relatively equal measurements and your waist is several inches smaller than I'd say you're still an hourglass.

Your comments are very interesting. A lot of models have a 25% smaller waist than their bust & hips. Sorry but Gigi is an hour-glass not a rectangle. Weight really does need to be considered here. It's easier to see well-defined proportions on a bigger women than Slim. Most of the women you described as hour-glass are bigger, whereas all the rectangles women are slimmer.
She called Beyonce a pear and Kate Winslet an apple lmao. They obviously have near even bust/hips and small waists (at least the 25% if not more pronounced). Yeah Kate is a little bustier and Beyonce a little hippier, but for some reason she only gives Kim K a pass for being a bigger-bum hourglass. People are still able to be hourglass if they're slim, or if their bust/hip are a few inches different rather than perfectly even (I can all but guarantee her examples aren't perfect matches). Christina is beautiful, but her waist is only 15%, 20% at most, of her bust/hips if we're using that metric. So is it the silhouette someone has, or their measurements? What if they have a huge ass but forward-facing narrow hips? Are they a pear or a rectangle? Her boxes are inconsistent and don't make sense.

I'm sorry you're struggling with your new body after having kids. I think it can take a year for your body to stabilize after birth. It sounds like you may be a pear shape that veers towards an hourglass. Were you more of an hourglass before having kids?

If 86 is your bust measurement that makes you an hourglass. If it's your shoulder measurement and your bust measurement is a lot smaller than your hips, then you'd be a pear.
She can def appear to be an hourglass. Her stylist does some amazing styling tweaks with her outfits to make her appear more that way. I'll be talking about this more in my upcoming videos where I'm sharing how to style each of these types.
Most clothes are cut to the outdated formula of the bust and hips being exactly equal and the waist 12 inches smaller. There are very few, if any, real women with these exact proportions, so essentially the clothes fit almost no one well. Every single garment I’ve bought in the last 50 years is too big in the shoulders and hips, often ridiculously so. This is why I don’t wear stiff-fabric trousers like jeans, they look ridiculous sticking out in empty flaps at my hips. With their flat-felled seams, taking in the hips is not an alteration I want to bother with, it’s rarely successful. Blazers, too. This oversized blazer trend is awful, why doesn’t it go away? I won’t buy one, ever.
There are very few women that can buy off the rack and have clothes fit them perfectly. That's why a great tailor is key. I'm with you on the oversized blazer trend. Clothes look better on the body when they fit.
I always thought I was a pear because I have a smaller bust (4" smaller than my shoulders and hips). But my shoulders and hips are the same width and I'm about 20% smaller at my natural waist. However I gain weight in my tummy. 😅🤷🏻♀️
LOL, I'm an inverted triangle-rectangle-pear. My shoulders are the widest but it doesn't look like it. I have a butt. I am petite & 113 lbs (5'3"). I cannot for the life of me figure out my real "type."
It canbe confusing Mary! If you have curves then you can rule out a rectangle shape. Inverted triangles generally have more narrow hips and a smaller backside. If your bust is on the smaller side and you find that your tops are a smaller size than your bottoms then you may be a pear shape. Hope that helps!
@@SarahJacobs-nb3lw Ok that makes sense. Any of the body types can be on the shorter or taller side. Height is not really a factor. Think about your shoulder/bust, waist, and hip measurements in proportion to each other to determine your body shape. Hope that helps!

It sounds like you may be a pear. An easy way to know is if you wear a size larger in your bottoms than your tops.
@@EricaBallStyle yup, sure do. Thanks for clarifying. 😊💕
@@vasgarcia Anytime! ❤
Im 4/10 what does that mean, being honest because I don't no,😊😂
I don't think I understand what 4/10 means 🤔 Let me know so I can help you figure out your type Sarah!
@EricaBallStyle oh sorry I forgot to my Clare, I'm 4feet 10ich,
@@SarahJacobs-nb3lw Ok that makes sense. Any of the body types can be on the shorter or taller side. Height is not really a factor. Think about your shoulder/bust, waist, and hip measurements in proportion to each other to determine your body shape. Hope that helps!
@@EricaBallStyle thanks 😊 🙏
@@SarahJacobs-nb3lw You're welcome Sarah ♥
