    I had the same symptoms in my 2017 1500. I did the same exact investigation thanks to this video and found water sitting in my storage wells. Checked the vents and they were actually stuck open by a pile of debris behind them- allowing humidity and even a cockroach to move in. Check between your cab and bed for accruing leaves and debris! I had an entire ecosystem back there.

    My headliner in my reg cab 2015 ram is water stained above rear window and around the back side above seat belt location. Today (we’ve had a lot of rain in CA) 1/2023. Today I went to put my seat belt on drivers side and it was wet!! I guess I’ll start with the 3rd break light. Then if not it’s the window gasket or the roof top rubber seal that may be leaking. Thanks for the videos.

    Great Info,
    I'm having the 3rd Brake Light & Rear Slider issue on the 2019 5th Gen.
    Here's a Big Achilles Heel to watch out for.
    You see that RF Control Module that RAM so cleverly (NOT) mounted on the back wall directly below the center window?
    Well Guess What.
    When they get wet they start corroding inside and eventually short out! This can leave you stranded as it did me!
    Worst thing is that it's a $80 part but $500+ labor because it has to be programmed by the dealer to match the VIN.
    I'm thinking about adding some of that tape and a plastic bag or some kind of shield over it to prevent it from happening to me again.

  • @billplaisance6387
    @billplaisance6387 2 роки тому +1

    So being that this was a year ago, did just simply putting a bead of silicone around the vents like you did, stop your leak? I guess I’ve had a leak for some time now and thought it might have been from the aftermarket third brake light I put in but I’ve long since replaced the gasket on it but I still have a leak. The only time so far where my headliner was wet was when I think the shark fin antenna was leaking, got that fixed and no more wet headliner but we had a pretty good rain today and noticed that my carpet was wet all the way back to back of the cab from the center cup holder on the floor but the headliner is dry so I’m thinking maybe my vents may be leaking as well unless it’s the damn rear window gasket.

    • @TunedRAMS
      @TunedRAMS  2 роки тому +1

      Yes the vents stopped leaking. You could have water coming in at third break light, when they leak the water travels down to the rear cab corners. But also it could be those other things along with the drain tubes if you got a moon roof! Check out the ZIP TAPE video in description

    • @billplaisance6387
      @billplaisance6387 2 роки тому

      @@TunedRAMS well I guess I’ll be finding out the next time it rains because after ripping my seats out, ripping the back panel down and soaking the top of the cab, I had water pouring in from the top of the passenger side vent. Even had it coming in from the driver side vent as well but nowhere else, though as far as the 3rd brake light, sun roof drain or anywhere from the back window.
      I think I used the same silicone as you but I went one step further and broke off some short pieces of a paint stirring stick to wedge between the little tabs on the top of the vent that hold it in place and the cab sheet metal and siliconed it all in place being that you could pull the vents in towards the cab over an eighth of an inch so it’s no wonder the gottdamn things leaked. Hopefully I got it fixed but hey, if I didn’t, I at least did the rear seat mod while I had the seats out so hopefully I won’t have to yank the seats out next time.

    This is Happening to me for the 2nd time. The first time I replaced and double gasketed (if that's a word) the new light. It seemed to work after a month or so down here in swfl. But after TS ETA had extra heavy rain in wake-up this morning to guess what? More damn water. I called the dealer but they can't see me until 2 and a half weeks!
    After watching this video I went to my truck and reached down the back part of the carpet behind the seat from under the window and down, and it was dry up until I got to the vent! So I think I'm going to mess with it this weekend...is it hard to take the seats and carpeting off? Hopefully not. If I can get this done maybe I'll skip the dealership appointment. Thanks for the video

      Yeah man I found water again and I’m like WTH!! Hosed it down and the vents were leaking around the frame, they actually leaked AGAIN after I siliconed them! So I put a big fat bead on the bottoms again, there are plastic clips at the bottom that need to be covered 100%, that finally solved it. Caulk all the tabs real good. Good luck, glad to help!

    • @jimchurchman2628
      @jimchurchman2628 3 роки тому

      The seat bolts are real tight but 18 mm 1/2” socket is best- even use a breaker bar helps. Once the seats are unbolted it’s easy to peel lining back and get to the vents. You have to push them back into the space between bed and cab to twist and bend to get them inside the cab. Then the new ones (mine were thicker and harder to put back through the hole from inside the cab) can go back with some forcing. I’d make sure they were warm when installing them cause if cold and brittle they may crack.

    • @TunedRAMS
      @TunedRAMS  3 роки тому

      It’s easy, like Jim said, once you break the bolts loose. I take my seats out all the time, I oiled the bolts so each time it’s not so hard. The bolts are exposed underneath the chassis so they get road grime on them. Once you get the seats out it’s pretty easy to take out that storage carpet. A bunch of push buttons along the front storage rim. Just remember where the seat belts go, I’ve misplaced them a few times.
      But yes overall very easy!

      Yeah I try not to bring anything I own to the dealership, it can be a hassle. Every truck has its flaws, some worse than others.
