  • What’s up everybody. In today’s video I will be
    showing you how to do a rear seat fold down modification on a fifth generation 2021 ram 1500. If you have a lower trim model such as a Big Horn that does not allow for the rear seats in the back to fold down, this modification will work which will allow you to fold the rear seats down for full access behind the seat.

    This was so stupid.... why would dodge make it optional... all seats in all options should be like this.
    Thanks for this mod video. I definitely needed this one.

    Thanks for the tutorial. Can you still drive with the seat raised or will it just fall down now? I often need to keep the rear seat folded up for gear on the floor.

      If you cut it perfectly it will stay up, but if you cut too much off it won’t. If you do try this mod, start with cutting a small amount off first and then test your seats and trim more as needed. But test the seats after each trim to make sure they drop when the seat is lifted up 3/4 of the way but stay locked with lifted all the way.

      Remember, small incremental cuts at a time until it folds down and locks back in while seats are folded up. Don’t cut too much off at first otherwise your seats may not stay folded up. It’s a little trial and error but better safe than sorry.

    Blows my mind this isn't easier. Shouldn't have to remove seats to get back there. Crazy. Save this one for a rainy day.

    Whats the point of folding the rear seat in a truck??

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  10 днів тому +1

      Some trucks have folding seats and some do not. The ones that don’t such as the Ram, the backseat can be modded to fold down either by trimming the brackets in the back or using spacers to raise the seat. The benefits are it can make installing seat covers easier, and give you additional access to behind the seat for storage or hidden things you don’t want others to see.

  • @GeorgeWillings

    Or you could just lift the rear seat up an inch and have the ability to lower the seat back forward. That is if you do not care about head room in the back.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  3 місяці тому +1

      Correct, that is true. But my family is all pretty tall so we didn’t want to sacrifice head room.

      @@DieselLegiancewith me living states away from my family and my kids are all adults now, I am going to do the seat lift and provide extra room for my subs, lol. Otherwise, this would be the perfect solution.

    I have a 2021 Ram 1500 Bighorn quad cab. I unbolted the seats, unlatched the seat from the back end and I still cannot get the seats to fold down. It’s like they aren’t supposed to fold down no matter what.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  2 місяці тому +1

      Did you lift the entire back seats up ⬆️ off the floor as there are usually hooks on the back of the seats that grip the rear cab brackets.

  • @johnnypiper1717
    @johnnypiper1717 5 місяців тому +1

    Hell yeah, I was wondering why I couldn't fold down my seat. I got my system installed and my sub amp is behind it but can't get access to it unless I can fold my rear seat down. So it needs to be cut at angle?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  5 місяців тому

      No, you don’t have to cut the seat bracket at an angle. You just have to cut a very small amount off the seat bracket so that when you lift the seat up the seat bracket lifts up just enough above the stationary bracket that’s mounted to the cab. I would start with a little at a time and then keep trimming off more until it works perfectly.

    • @johnnypiper1717
      @johnnypiper1717 5 місяців тому +2

      @DieselLegiance 10/4 think I will jus do the one behind my driver side since that's where my amp is and my 2nd battery and jus leave the other one like it is. Only thing is I plan on putting a seat lift on my seats to get extra space for a bigger subwoofer box and if I cut I know it will not latch then. Wonder if I can buy a replacement one like say if they was to break I'm sure you should be able to buy a replacement one from Mopar. Or I could possible bend that piece the latch slides into up to where it catches if I lift my seats. Appreciate your help and video👊

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  5 місяців тому +1

      @johnnypiper1717 well, if you’re going to do a seat lift for a larger box then you don’t need to cut as much off the bracket. I would suggest putting the seat lift on first and then cutting just enough off the bracket as needed so that when the seat is lifted, you can fold the seat down.

    My concern is when I put my dog's bed in the back and lift the seats that the back of the seat will fall forward and onto my dog.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  4 місяці тому

      True, if you cut too much off that may happen so it’s a little trial and error. Only trim a little at a time until it works but if you trim too much that may happen. Or, add spacers under the seat and raise the seat enough for this to work.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  3 місяці тому +1

      @gotblessed1037 I have added spacers before on rear seats to raise them to fit a sub box. The key is to do small increment spacers until it fits. Don’t waste head room if you don’t have to.
