The best no leak method I and my friends have been using is to buy a LED 3rd brake light and clean surface good. The LED version ensures you don't have to replace bulbs again. Push on the light as you screw the light down until the light is snug so you don't crack the lens. After the new LED light is installed with supplied gasket run a thick bead of clear outdoor silicone around the entire light and smooth out with a wet finger and your leakproof. Also, put clear silicone in the screw hole.

Using silicone to seal the lights is an nightmare, since it will shrink once it indures a years worth of weather. It's is almost impossible to remove. Going throught right now. I regreat useing the silicone.

Just a heads-up. If your 3rd light is not leak then, Those back glass power sliders sometimes leak also due the the plastic cracking. The way to know is looking at your center glass. Follow the edges right and left sides straight up to the plastic area if you see a crack line that means it's cracked all the way to the top. Water is getting in there. I do auto glass replacement on those for that reason. And sometimes if it's not the powerslider it's the 3rd light. Unless someone changed your glass and did a bad install

I had those little cracks in the frame of my 2019. Water got in and shorted an electrical component. Dealership charged me $2100 to replace entire window and frame. First sign of rain it was immediately leaking again. I check that third break light and realized water was getting in there. Sealed it myself and no more leaks. I’ve since seen others with those frame cracks that had no water issues. Entire thing is a shitshow.

You are the Man. I had a puddle in the back of my 2018 crew Cab, now the carpet in the storage under the seats is wet but drying. I used this flashing material and Marine grade water proof insulation around the brake light. If that fucker leaks now, it has to be from somewhere else. Truck is still under warranty, so if it happens again, which I doubt it, I'll take it in and let Ram deal with it.

I want to join the Lieke ram club. We have a 2006 quad cab. No sunroof big horn it does not leak so far 3500 Dooley we have a 2006 mega cab 1500 Laramie with sunroof. It leaks, mainly from passenger front door, handle a gallon of water every inch of rain. Yes, we do hang a bucket there with a wick wick to direct the water into the bucket. No leak in the back corners of this truck headliner, but maybe a little bit around the rear window, which is a slider power. The most disappointing is our 2014 Limited 3500 mega cab Dooley. It leaks from the front a pillar door handle when parked in a slight downhill in our driveway at a slight uphill. It leaks in the back passenger corner, headliner and water runs down the back wall causing it to get the carpet very wet right next to the rear door. I only bought this truck for the Cummins and the rest of the crap came with it. Although the interior one it’s not moldy and wet is very nice. not sure if I’ve heard anybody saying they leaked before 2006 a common item seems to be the power rear window and the sunroof and the third brake light although our 2006 quad cab has the third brake light but a manual rear sliding window. No leaks on that truck, there should be a recall on the class action lawsuit who is busy contacting the lawyers. I am going to talk to Ram cares to see if they? Care

I ordered the ZIP system tape on Amazon but it seems way thicker than yours. I used it anyway. Extremely sticky... Plus ordered a new gasket... I think with the two, I hope to God the leak will be stopped. Of course I fear I have more of a leak than just the 3rd brake light. I can't see anything around the window, sliding rear window, etc. but it may be leaking too. Or the vents like yours. What a PITA!!!! I have a mildew smell. I also installed a cabin air filter kit since my 2016 didn't come with one.

Ok so a thought. If you seal it up like that any water that leaks in around the seal will just pool up inside your new chamber you made along with the 3rd brake light housing itself.
You'd want to cut at least a 1/4 gap from the bottom of the seal on the 3rd breaklight to allow anything that got in to drain out.
But I'm not sure if cutting a 1/4 gap in the seal would be just as bad or not.
      Food for thought.

Any rubber gasket will "dry out" over time, losing its ability to expand. I took the third lamp off, cleaned off the gasket, tapping the dirt loose, letting it fall out... then saturated the gasket with just enough silicone, leaving the lamp off while it absorbed. Then reinstalled the lamp. For good measure sprayed a small amount along the top edge using the straw. Two rainstorms later, still no leaking.

You can get it at Home Depot or any place that sells zip wall. Amazon should sell it too. Zip Tape

No way, if removing badges doesn’t then this shouldn’t. But you’d never really have to, it’s hidden.

So you stopped the water from getting to the inside of the truck but you let it fill up in the brake light! This doesn’t actually fix anything it’s just a bandaid to a problem that creates another problem (which is water killing your bulbs in the light itself).

Same cheap seal though which will lead to the same problem in the future... So new seal is just a temporary "fix"

@@DirtNassty 100%. I've been through 2 new seals neither one stopped the issue. A bead of clear silicone solved the problem though..

You forgot to roll the tape , it won’t pass inspection. You should also use the zip liquid flash around the light .

Waist of time. Just smear a little silicone on the outer edge of the light gasket so it doesn't saturate with water and leak.

@@TunedRAMS no, l dont mean caulk it in place. I mean remove light and coat the seal edge with silicone so it does not absorb water.

    What about replacing the seal
Of the lug for a thicker one. Or apply gasket maker
