I'd like to throw one of my favorite bands into the mix... Badlands High Wire on the debut The Last Time off of Voodoo Highway Also from Ozzy, Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin And Battery from Metallica
With Iron Maiden I think it´s interesting, that they used to have great openers in the 80s but lost it in the 2000s. If eternity shall fail was a great opener again. But their only „1st song“ that was the best of the whole album was in my opinion 1995 „Sign of the cross“.
Great response there James! A lot of top quality picks. I just had a catch up with Thomas' channel this morning and saw the initial video, so good to come across a response. It's definitely harder than you think to do.
Here's my list: - Rainbow: Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow - Man on the Silver Mountain, - Motörhead: Overkill - Overkill, - Saxon: Strong Arm of the Law: Heavy Metal Thunder, - Judas Priest: Point of Entry - Heading Out to the Highway, - Accept: Restless and Wild - Fast as a Shark - Iron Maiden: Piece of Mind - Where Eagles Dare, - Celtic Frost: Morbid Tales - Human/Into the Crypts of Rays, - Metal Church: The Dark - Ton of Bricks, - Flotsam & Jetsam: When the Storm Comes Down - The Master Sleeps, - Megadeth: Rust in Peace - Holy Wars...The Punishment due.
Excellent response, mate, and some brilliant choices here! I definitely agree with regard to those first tracks by CANNIBAL CORPSE, MOTLEY CRUE, WHITESNAKE, and AGENT STEEL, no joke! Those albums by AIC and DOKKEN are brilliant, too (although my favourite tracks on those are different, haha!)! 'Damned in Black' is a criminally underrated IMMORTAL album, and is actually my 5th favorite (after the first 4 albums). Well done!
Great pick with Symbolic, that whole album crushes! I wish Metal Blade would get off their ass & reissue it on vinyl, so many people are asking for it. Great video James 🤘
Great response James, glad to see you jumped on it! You showed some fantastic albums! I've been really getting into Dokken over the last year and got their first four albums. Breaking the Chains could be on this list as well for me. Here's a hot take... if I would make a Death ranking, Symbolic would be last! Not one you hear much, haha.

Hey James. Great video and list. Love the Crue, Agent Steel, Dokken, and Mastodon choices! A few on my list would be “Caught Somewhere In Time” by Maiden, “Painkiller” by Priest, “Evil” by Mercyful Fate, and “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due” by Megadeth. Cheers
I did initially choose both those Megadeth and Priest Albums, but I saw other people choose them, so i went for some alternatives instead. Cheers Bobby

Hi James!!! Great response to Thomas's thread..... I think Whitesnake ST album is a near perfect one if you remove "Is this Love", i have an argentinean pressing from 1987, the opening track is "Crying in the Rain" another superb opening track, "Still...." is the third song. Great Dokken choice too, one of my favorite bands from the 80's LA's rock scene. cheers and be well
When it comes to opening songs. For prowler from the first iron maiden. What I way to start off an album. Inside the electric circus after the speech from Blackie. When the guitars kicks in it just blows my head off. Battery off master of puppets, Now this opening song just set the album off so well. And of course angel of death from reign in blood. You can't beat that for an opening song ever. A.I.R. from spreading the disease. I was like what the hell when I first heard the album. I don't know from Blizz of ozz. That riff just put hair on the back of my neck. And I got to say that ozzy was never had a better opening song than that ever. Welcome to the jungle from appetite for destruction. Wake up dead from peace sells. What a song to opening up an album. Cowboys from hell. Still the best opener from pantera. There are some many more I could name.
I really want to do a response video as well but tbh I can´t find an opening track that is my fave on any album apart from Savatage´s "24 Hours ago" from "Hall...".

I'd like to throw one of my favorite bands into the mix... Badlands
High Wire on the debut
The Last Time off of Voodoo Highway
Also from Ozzy, Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin
And Battery from Metallica
All great openers you mentioned. Battery is excellent but for me, Disposable Hero's is rhe best song on Master of Puppets. Cheers
@@mrboulder9714 Yeah it's hard to choose from many songs on Master... it's a Masterpiece... like all of their first 4 albums.
With Iron Maiden I think it´s interesting, that they used to have great openers in the 80s but lost it in the 2000s. If eternity shall fail was a great opener again. But their only „1st song“ that was the best of the whole album was in my opinion 1995 „Sign of the cross“.
Sign Of The Cross and Futureal are great openers. But yeah, Maiden hasn't had a truly great album opener in years. Cheers
Great response there James! A lot of top quality picks. I just had a catch up with Thomas' channel this morning and saw the initial video, so good to come across a response. It's definitely harder than you think to do.
