Good to hear you thoughts on the albums James. One thing I picked up on was how the releases were spread over quite a few years, something I hadn't noticed before. Ten is an immense album, I didn't hear it until the late 00s as I kind of ignored the grunge bands, it was one of those blow you away albums when I heard it. Same with Alice in chains, I slept on them for years. I think facelift is my no.1 here, probably because it's pretty much a metal album imo. Nirvana I'd known about quite early on but another band I've grown to like. From there I went on to listen to STP and Soundgarden. I think the whole "grunge killed off metal" put me off listening to them for years.

A great band Ac/dc , Kiss , Judas Priest and so on? so Queens of the stone age opened for Ac/dc or Off Spring opened ? I would say for stiff upper lip a 2.5 stars out of 5 not horrible not great ok? I also like Ball breaker better than Stiff upper lip!!! Razors Edge , It's your list I understand but in all fairness For those about to Rock is better than 10 th place i'm not saying it''s Highway to hell but it's better than 10th around 5th or so.!!! I like Dirty Deeds it's a good album? Back in Black I guess of all the Magazines list it's on speaks volume it's first place for their band , first place for 1980 , top albums of the 80's and it competes with albums from the 70's? High Voltage looks good. Highway to hell should be 2nd place because of Back in Black why High Voltage is in first? I understand it's your list?

Great video James! Pretty much spot on with the top 3. "Holy Diver" is a absolute classic, firing on all cylinders there. I never listened to Magica or Lock up the Wolves I think, so I'll definitely need to give them a listen. Cheers buddy! 🙂🤘

I have to sort of disagree with you about KINGDOMS. Garden of Disdain and Paradigms Warped had some excellent and unique riffs from Trey. Those are the 2 best songs on the album for me. I thought the rest of the album was mostly forgettable other than those 2.

Iv'e put RonnieJames Dio in my top three best metal singers. I first saw Ronnie with Rainbow when there Long Live Rock and Roll album came out. Ticket cost me $7.50 to see them at Swing Autotorium in San Bernardino, CA. They were the headliner at this show and i can still remember why my friends and me went to the show in San Bernardino. Reo Speedwagon was the headliner on most of the tour that year and we did want to see them. Talk about a miss match. Long live Rock and Roll is my favorite album which Dio sang on.

Vivian Campbell found in Def Lepard a good safe job in a Top band and $$$$

Nice ranking James.Dio is one of the Greatest singers ever. I think the 5 best are: 1.SACRED HEART 2.HOLY DIVER 3.LAST IN LINE 4.DREAM EVIL 5.KILLING THE DRAGON. But as far as quality of his csreer after Dream Evil he has made not so great albums. I tjhink he was Better in Heaven and Hell's last record.TUOMO FROM FINLAND

For me my top 3 is Heaven and hell , Headless Cross and Paranoid

My least favorite is Master of the Moon but it’s one of my favorite album covers. I love the first 4 albums a lot. I’d probably put Last in Line first, then Holy Diver, Dream Evil, Sacred Heart.

Good ranking mate I think holy diver would have been how the next black sabbath album would have sounded had ronnie stayed with them and strange highways could have been the follow up to dehumaniser fantastic singer really nice bloke as well so down to earth sadly missed

Sweet DIO ranking mate! Lock Up...would be higher up for me here James. I find it hard to get through Magica, so it would be at the bottom for me too. The man could really belt it out up until the end. Hope alls good mate, cheers!

Well done and cool Dio ranking, i think the first four studio releases are the best the band ver released, not a big fan of "Strange Highway" the guitar tone of Tracy G didn't sound appropiate for the band (imo). From the later era i only have "Magica" and it's an ok album, need to check "Killing the Dragon" and revisit all the others. cheers and be well

The Last in Line is #1 for me with Holy Diver #2. I really find all of the albums after Dream Evil to be disappointing and mostly forgettable. I was so excited to get Lock Up the Wolves on releaseand was just so bummed after listening to it. His run from Rainbow up to The Last In Line is truly amazing though.

Holy Diver is the mother of all Metal albums.. through my pick personally will have been Last In Line..but all good.

Dream Evil - I used to flog that thing as a teenager! Also enjoyed Sacred Heart and I liked listening out for rainbow references on each new album.

On my own personal list I'd swap Magica with Sacred Heart, maintain the top three as they are, and all the rest could move around depending on the day. Dio has an incredible catalogue. And now that his name has been invoked I have to listen to Dio for the rest of the evening. Good Times.

My list keeps changing but i'm pretty sure I have Dio in the top 10?.!! yep , Def Leppard , Iron Maiden you did. isn't soda suppose to be cold? so do you have all of these albums on Cd when at work during your lunch break after your done eating you can put them on your walkman and enjoy the weather and the music in the evening you can watch videos or tv? Glad to see your take on Dio's discography. I have always said that Dio is a Freddie Mercury of metal music. Definitely my no. 1 among metal singers. Since you wear a Pearl Jam t-shirt...it would be nice to watch your ranking of some legends of grunge like PJ, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains. Cheers James!

Interesting ranking. My top 5 Dio albums would be 1. Holy Diver, 2. Last in Line, 3. Dream Evil, 4. Killing the Dragon, 5. Lock up the Wolves. '85s Sacred Heart would be more near the bottom. I've never been a big fan of that album

Let’s not forget Viv on guitar. Every solo and riff he wrote was absolutely incredible. Last in line solo, invisible solo just another day riff- just a few.

NIce Ranking, and nice to see some love for Angry Machines... although the TOP 2 are a bit predictable, but those Albums are Classics for a reason, but to call these Albums just classic is a bit underwhelming.... When I was 15 and I listened to Holy Diver for the first time, I rewinded this cassette so many times, just to hear those two Songs in the beginning over and over again. Took me days to discover how great the rest of the Album is. Good job on the Ranking, stay heavy🤘

It's amazing that as revered as DIO is, only ONE of his albums has gone platinum which is Holy Diver. I've been saying the same thing about Viv in DL for years. Listening to ANYTHING DL has released since he joined makes you wonder, "this is the guy that wrote Holy Diver"? Though I think a lot of it also has to do with the fact that their drummer only has one arm so he probably can't play anything too heavy, but yeah, Viv is terribly wasted in DL and everything after Hysteria is crap. (his era)

Holy diver to me sounds like a more upbeat follow up to mob rules. Born again sounds like a totally different band. Actually heaven and hell sounds like a follow up to long live rock n roll. That’s how much influence dio and birch had to black sabbath I think.

After the first 2 the rest are very samey and boring and should be better. Dios best work was with rainbow in my opinion.

I was very late to Dio. Around 2010 i think it was. I love the first few, I'd put Holy Diver at number 1 as well. The latter half of his discography sounded a bit ploddy for me and he seemed to bring up a few too many old ideas lyrically.
