@metalmystro7513 Yep, I mentioned it there but then totally forgot to show it when talking about the albums. One day, I'll learn and write a list down beforehand so I don't forget anything
While watching this I realized that my thrash collection is severely lacking, Great video man. All those albums are classics, I don't know how you could choose.
Hi James!!! cool idea for a video and tough decision too..... as both years are great and you have the records to probe it!!! i think i will choose 86'.now i realize i still need to get a lot of records from both years, and that's a good thing!!! cheers and be well
Didn’t realise how many great thrash albums came out in 86. I started getting into thrash round then.Just missed Slayer/Metallica in Manchester, but saw Celtic Frost/Kreator/Sodom/Sepultura/Nuke Assault all the greats round that time. Great video.
So many good ones here for 1990: Rust in Peace, Twisted into Form, Seasons in the Abyss, Agent Orange, Extreme Aggression, Cowboys from Hell! 1986 was amazing as well: Master of Puppets, Peace Sells, Reign in Blood, Pleasure to Kill, Doomsday for the Deceiver, Possessed by Fire! Thrash is such a deep genre full of great music if you know where to look
Fantastic concept and a really great video, too. Your collection from both years, however, puts mine to shame! 😂 Both years are absolutely exceptional, but I agree that '86 probably just pips it! The trio of Master of Puppets, Peace Sells, and Reign In Blood probably clinch it for me. Was great meeting you and hanging out at Bloodstock, and I look forward to the ranking videos! Cheers! 🤘
Both excellent years, but yeah just gotta go with 86 over 1990 here. Excellent meeting up and hanging out with you at Bloodstock too mate. It was a blast. Cheers
Hmm, definitely not an easy choice here James. Both outstanding years for thrash. I think today I'd go with 86 but it's one of those that can easily change.
Great video James! This is like The Matrix movie, you either take the red pill or the blue pill. 😅😎 Both fantastic years with amazing releases, but if I had to make a choice right now it would be 1986. Enjoy Bloodstock festival mate, cheers! 😎🤘
That's a tough one to call both those years are excellent for Thrash! After watching your video I might lean towards 1990, but not by much! Very enjoyable video!
I had the pleasure of seeing "local band" Bristol's Onslaught at the infamous Colston Hall gig (1987?) when pretty much the first dozen rows of seats were destroyed by the most slam diving I think I've ever seen at a gig! They were consequently banned for life from the venue, oh and guitarist Nige was a local at my drinking hole in Hanham, Bristol "The Maypole"!
That's an excellent story. I have seen Onslaught live a few years ago. Would have been great to have seen them back then. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers
Great idea James. Im a 1990 man myself. You missed a few i expected to see like Sadus, Suicidal Tendencies Atrophy Sodom off the top of my head but whatever. This gave me an idea this video. Ill have a think about it.
I don't have the Atrophy, Suicidal Tendancies or Sodom albums. There were a few I forgot to show. Intrigued to see what video you come up with Mike. Cheers mate
Excellent video James! There's no denying these years are massive ones for Thrash Metal. Although for me, I'd have to go with 86'. Reason being there's more albums I know from 86' than 90', although there's a lot here I need to check out. Not even the might of Rust in peace will sway me, even though it's probably my favourite Thrash album of all time. However, I'd argue 88' or 89' could easily be the best year for Thrash. I think it's safe to say Thrash Metal's peak was 86-90 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Seasons in the Abyss is my favourite Slayer album - love it ! POT is my favourite Anthrax album, as is Death Angel's Act III - and Neverland is a masterpiece, as is Rust in Piece - so even though I like 86 albums, I am def going 1990 for the win.
I must have missed the video. So, half a year later, here´s my comment. 1986 because it was my starting point for Thrash. One note on the Destruction and Sodom CDs: Steamhammer messed up both of them. The Sodom one has the first recording of the album that was accidentally released in the US. The German vinyl version has the second recording which sounds a bit (not much though) better. There´s a reissue on vinyl that has both versions on 2 LPs but it goes for stupid money. The Destruction CD has the rough mix of the "Eternal Devastation" album, the bass is missing completely and the gap between the intro and "Curse the Gods" is not there anymore on the vinyl version. The count - ins to the songs are cut away and the sound is much fuller. Reissues of the album are available still for normal prices.
That version of that Sodom album is pretty much unlistenable. The snare drum just overpowers everything. Both great years rars but 1986 for the win. Cheers Jurgen
86 for me megadeth slayer they were both huge in my school when i was 14 im 51 now and still love it. my fav year has to be 87/88 metallica my fav band also kreator helloween testament anthrax
Yeah I'm with you for 1986 but only just! been on a bit of German metal kick the last couple of weeks currently listening my way through the helloween collection need to get some more sodom though only have a 2cd best of and a live album but their stuff is hard to come by and bloody expensive when it turns up! enjoy bloodstock next week mate!
86 just beats out 1990 for me, both excellent years. I hear ya Robert, Sodom's stuff is hard to come by and bloody expensive when it does show up. Cheers fella, I will
1990 for me by miles. Great 86 albums for me are Reign In Blood and Master of Puppets. Great 90 albums are By Inheritence, Seasons in the Abyss, Never Neverland, Persistance of Time and Souls of Black by Testament. The 2 Megadeth albums are ok but not as good as others by them. Coma of Souls is ok. I had the Sacred Reich and Xentrix albums when they came out but not anymore. And I saw Sacred Reich touring this album supporting Sepultura which was excellent. Great video though as normal.
1986 by a long shot Metallica, Megadeth it was closer than what I thought Dark Angel Darkness Decends Slayer- Reign in Blood Metallica - Masters Megadeth - Peace sells 1990 was ok but it was alot closer then what I expected I have the score 1986 4 and 1990 2 Not a Thrash metal fan but this the way I see it.
First Dark angel I really like. But when leave scars came it just blew me away. I don't know what happened to them when they did time heals all. I'm sure that you feel the same as me. Tankard you have to go with the morning after as there best album. Now when it comes to Kreator pleasure to kill was and is still are great album. Coma of souls yes love the album title and people of lie. But terror zone is my song from that album. Now Forbidden with twisted into form. When for forbidden evil come out it blew me away and they reminded me of Testament. But twisted into form is a much better album. I don't have say that much about Slayer as no one will or as ever beaten Reign in blood. Seasons in the abyss is a really favourite of mine. Nuclear assault there first album i really love and the same with survive. But when handle with care that album is just there best album.
I'm pretty much in agreement with all the points you made in this comment. Cheers for watching fella and impeccable taste in albums too. Cheers fella 👍
1987 is easily better than 1986, such good albums came out like Sodom - Persecution Mania Assassin - The Upcoming Terror D.R.I. - Crossover Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence Exodus - Pleasures Sacred Reich - Ignorance Testament - The Legacy Sepultura - Schizophrenia Sacrifice - Forward To Extermination Overkill - Taking Over Lååz Rockit - Know Your Enemy Toxik - World Circus
Forgot to include Testament's Souls of Black from 1990 and Flotsam and Jetsam's Doomsday For The Deciever from 1986. Good albums
He mentioned testament souls of Black when he was talking about the Exhorder album production
@metalmystro7513 Yep, I mentioned it there but then totally forgot to show it when talking about the albums. One day, I'll learn and write a list down beforehand so I don't forget anything

It's tough between the 2 years, but 86 is just better for me. Cheers for watching
‘86 everyday and twice on Sunday!
@yinzerchuck6001 Haha. Both great years, but yeah, 86 for the win. Cheers fella

86 for me too, but 1990 also has some great albums out that year. Cheers Cristian
Cool video, I and I agree with you on your conclusion :)
Cheers fella. Both outstanding years for Thrash Metal
Exhorder slaughter in the Vatican has the best artwork. I would have to go with 1986, so many legendary albums. Cheers James.
Both great years but yeah, 86 is just better. Cheers Mark
Didn’t realise how many great thrash albums came out in 86.
I started getting into thrash round then.Just missed Slayer/Metallica in Manchester, but saw Celtic Frost/Kreator/Sodom/Sepultura/Nuke Assault all the greats round that time.
Great video.
Yeah 86 was a beast of a year for Thrash Metal albums. Cheers for watching fella 👍
I saw Kreator/Celtic Frost in 87 in Birmingham at the now gone Powerhouse, what a brilliant night, I so miss those days
Nice comparison of 2 fantastic years for thrash....off the top I'd lean towards 1986 but gee wiz, 1990 had some stellar releases 🙂
Both excellent years but 86 is just better for me. Cheers fella
Two fantastic years but I’d go for 86 myself..lots of killer releases
Great video Mate
Cheers Marty. Both excellent years, but yeah, gotta go with 86. Cheers mate 👍

I'm going with 1990 only because I was much more aware of all that was going on ✌️ thanks!
Both excellent years definitely. Cheers for watching fella
1990 for me. My favorite year for metal, period. Especially thrash.
@paulseidler1644 It is a great year for all the Sub Genre's. Cheers for watching fella
I think both years are awesome, but for me I think 1988 might even top both of ‘em! Great video as always 🤘
1988 has some bangers, definitely Darcy. I might have to do an 87 vs 88 video. Cheers

Really cool video there. Based on the albums you showed, I have to go with 1990. :)
86 is just better for me, but 90 is also really strong as well. Cheers Kim

Definitely 86 for me. I'd also add Exumer's Possessed By Fire. In my opinion, it's the best German Thrash debut.
Cheers!
I still need to check out Exumer. Cheers for watching fella 👍
@mrboulder9714 Seeing how much you clearly love German Thrash, I'd be stunned if you didn't like. Even their modern stuff is killer.
I don't listen to much thrash these days, but enjoyed the video nonetheless. Have a good Bloodstock!
Cheers fella.and thanks, I will

I would include Reason by Anarcrusis for 1990. Streets ahead progressive thrash.

Slayer- Reign in Blood
Metallica - Masters
