Every Metal subgenre explained with guitar riffs. A bit of an ambitious endevour because I wrote every riff heard in this video (some sound more similar to real songs than others) and then lined them up semi-chronologically.
Mix and master done by myself too.

So what is your favorite Metal subgenre? And your favorite bands from said style.
Crust punk or to be specific metallic crust punk like Stenchcore
Black metal
A lot of deathcore lately, I re-visited Awaken the Dreamers by All Shall Perish recently and it's blowing my mind once again with what Chris Storey was able to do on guitar. Also a good bit of Through the Eyes of the Dead :)

The only real metal is nu metal

I knew I was missing something
@@jojoplaysmusic and such an obvious pick at that, shame
Heavy trip is such an underrated movie
suggest me a band for this genre :)))
@@cankatdx there's only one band and it has neither a name nor a coherent discography. the only way to listen to it is to accidently stumble upon a small abandoned village in mongolia that is not connected to any form of roads. in the middle, there's an old well, where one of the members accidently dropped his old radio that is miraculously playing their mixtape to this day and if you listen closely, you can hear it from the ground of the well. but do not try to go down this well and search for it, as nobody who ever tried this ever returned.
It's nice that you were able to fit an entire grindcore song into that 5 second riff sample.

That's quite the compliment. Thank you!
I love how you described black metal with pterodactyl vocals. King Diamond definitely evokes a pterodactyl
I usually go with "ringwraith vocals".
Yes but heavy metal
Mercyful Fate/King Diamond is not black metal hahahahah

But peterodactyl vocals is a term used to describe very high-pitched inhale-screams. That's something you find in Deathcore, not Black Metal.

Definitely one of the best videos of this style I’ve ever seen. Riffs and backing tracks were extremely on point and it’s clear you tried to make every sub genre sound good and authentic down to aesthetic choices and taking the time to get accurate tones dialed in. And the backing tracks were actually listenable which is a huge feat in itself lmfao
It's impressive that you managed to make 8 full songs for the grindcore segment while all other genres only got a sample.
Muy bueno hombre.
It's funny how you're not even exaggerating here

Thank you so much man!
thank you mr metal subgenre man
"kinda evil" Excellent work describing the degree to which each genre is evil. Should there be some kind of agreed scale, like an SI unit of evil?
Goats per note
*Dead goats per note*
There, fixed that for you lol
5/6 goats time signature, 138 bpp (Beats per pentagram) GO!!!!
The scale of evilness is measured by amputated limps on stage, the smell of the singers clothes and the amount of pig heads that are on poles on stage
@@Orion-fx7wk that metric really only works for ritualistic expressions of evil... you need separate units for dramatic or theatrical evil, for which the specific unit is the Cruella
Don't know why this video took so long to get recommended to me, but this was SICK! Every riff was dope and very well represented.
Thank you!
I'm a HUGE fan of Atmospheric Black Metal and you really nailed the description.
I'm keeping this video in handy somewhere :)
not every riff is super original sounding(which is to be expected), but they actually sound perfectly fitting for the genres down to the tones, well done

As a metal fan, I still don't get half of them.

They all sound the same to me.
Alternative metal is like that closet you throw all kinds of random stuff into promising yourself you're gonna sort it properly once you find the time, which most likely is never.

Any guitar riff sounds as good as glam metal/hard Rock...
Someone needs to make an essentials playlist of these genres for us newbies
'every noise at once' does that

Darkthrone - Where cold winds blow
Mayhem - De mysteriis dom sathanas
Emperor - Ye entranceperium

As a fan of nu metal, I'm exploring outside from that subgenre after saw this video. It is amazing!
Check out opeths blackwater park for progressive death metal, check out belakors of breath and bone for some melodic death metal, check out deaths sound of perseverance for some cool riffs, check out fallujahs empyrean for some good technical deathmetal.suffocations liege of inveracity for some brutal death metal,
Also check out Abigor’s nachthymnen for some black metal, (might be hard to get into)
Industrial metal is the best for me. Creepy sounds, the sound of industrial stuff like pipes hitting the floor, haunting synths with badass riffs.
Honestly Nu Metal is just Groove Metal it just got misclassified, same thing with New Wave Of American Heavy Metal really being just Technical Groove Metal. Groove Metal is the hidden metal subgenre that keeps getting misclassified for lack of understanding. Out of curiosity though Im just wondering what your experimenting with like what are mixing with it?
@@juggernautnation369 I used to listen to death metal but once I got older, I'm kind of tired of that shit and need calmer kind of metal. Now it's more like progressive metal especially sleep token. But I'm still enjoying nu metal

You’re probably asking why there is no DSBM in this video. The guitarist already killed himself, sadly :((

The amplifier is fighting for his life
you forgot to mention that swedish death metal has this kind of buzzsaw sound to it that regular/american death metal bands don't have

Entombed my beloved ❤
The HM-2 pedal ‼️
I like when metal sounds like dueling chainsaws.
Early Florida Death Metal was mostly Marshall Valvestate or JCM with a boost/overdrive in front. Swedish Death metal started with the same amps but adopted the 5150 earlier. They also used the HM-2 a lot and the MT-2 on occasion. The thing to remember though is that you basically never hear pedal distortion alone, it's a multitracked mix of amp distortion and pedals.
Okay, that tapping at 2:55 was impressive!
Amazing! Good job, dude and nice playing!
Probably one of the best videos ive seen about comparing metal subgenres, the riffs and tone was on point for every. single. one of them. I'd love to see you do a part 2!
