- I'm back again with another video of one of the most short lived gems of playstations lifetime. In this video, I go over the big issues that plagued PlayStation All-stars and what caused the game to fall under the radar and seemingly go unnoticed by Sony all these years later.
Will we ever get a new entry in this series that bigger and better than before? I dunno. Maybe? Until we know for sure, lets talk about the game. - Ігри

I never played it before, but I really wanna try it.
Balancing and a better single player experience would be welcome. I just think the issue is combos feel pointless and the finishers were not made equal so unless you played combo heavy characters you were at disadvantage

It may sound stupid but Astro's Playroom gave me hopes of seeing a sequel anytime soon, why? Let me explain. That game celebrates the history of PlayStation and the amount of fanservice there is fantastic, if we can have a game with this kind of fanservice, then the sequel can have it too.
But, we need to consider some things:
1) Change the gameplay to a more tradicional fighting game: I get it, okay? Fighting games are difficult to make and difficult to master, i myself experienced that with Injustice 1 when it got free on the PlayStation Store, but it can fit more than the Smash style gameplay and considering how close Sony is with Capcom, they can ask them to help with the development.
2) Expand the roster and pick well the characters: 24 characters (plus DLC) is not a bad number for PlayStation's first fighting game ever but i can't deny that some of the pics were akward, especially DMC Donte, Raiden, Big Daddy and Fat Princess and i understand that the game started development in a troublesome time in the industry. But times have changed, now it's the best time to start development on a new game, Crash and Spyro returned, Final Fantasy will get a new game (as usual) and Devil May Cry V is a success so the developers should use that to their advantage. Of course, also include discarded characters like Dart, Abe, Tomba and Ryu Hayabusa (if i wrote that right) as well as the PS4 representatives like Aloy, Deacon, Knack, Jin, Astro, Joel and even 2018 Kratos.
3) Fuse the characters to a singular art style: By this i don't mean to change their designs, i mean to change how they look (even though it's the same thing). I'll take Marvel Vs Capcom 3 as an example, that game uses a cell-shaded art style to simulate comic book style, which fits for the Capcom side too. I want the same treatment for the art style of this game, even something close to anime works.
Hayabusa has absolute no connection to Sony tho.

I personally like the gameplay of the first game, but I do agree it can be improved, but I don't think it needs to be an exact copy of Smash. Most of the reason the 3rd Party characters were picked was that the 3rd Party developers didn't have faith in the game, and viewed it as a promotional tool. That's why we got Raiden and DmC Dante, instead of Snake and original Dante. I think Big Daddy & Isaac Clarke were fine picks for 3rd Party, at least their games were all on PlayStation, unlike some characters from Smash. Finally, I think every character should look like they came from their own game because it gives off the crossover feeling like they shouldn't be together but they are. I personally love how art styles clash with one another, plus it makes the game looked artistically differently from Smash.

I’m glad this game is getting talked about more recently, it gives me hope that they will consider making a sequel and fixing a bunch of stuff that people hated, I’ve never played this game myself but it looks fun and if it comes out with a sequel I’ll be glad to play it
I really like the concept of other franchises mashing up with the stage. The music is unique as well in my opinion. They way how the music mixes with the other franchises theme. I would be excited if this game would make a comeback.

I never understood the complaint of being able to miss your Super as being a bad thing: that just meant you as a player had to get better at landing them. All competitive sports are like that: do you think basketball sucks just because you’ll likely brick all of your shots before you learn to get better?
Other than that, though, nice video. Especially your point about kill confirms: THOSE were the true game breakers.
The way you mentioned the other characters has REALLY made me want this to happen...

Personaliy i am in love with this game i put more hours in super smash bros brawl then all my other games combined. But still there is something with this game i just cant shake i hope a sequel will be made someday.
Fun Fact: Smash Bros wasnt even the first game with that fighting style cause there was an Arcade game in the early 90s by Namco that played exactly like Smash Bros so technically every Nintendo fan that complained about All-Stars are insane hypocrites.

Fantastic video, I also hope that one day we could possibly get another Playstation All Stars. There's just so much potential there and I think that if the game had not released in 2012 and instead later we probably would have had better results rip

We should try to get through to sony and see if there is any way we can get our game back, we shouldn't fold on the fact smash players don't like it was something fans loved and with the ps4 and ps5 we can have so many characters and dlc characters and maps it would be a million dollar idea.
1.) Yes, it's like a PSN Smash Bros Game, but since when is that a bad thing?
2.) Smash Brothers isn't on every Platform, it's only on Nintendo.
3.) This would open New Doors to opportunities for many Studios to take part in.
4.) This is a whole Genre of Games we are talking about here.

I personally think PSAS can come back but it needs a better title first of all.
Second platform fighters just too close to smash that people will complain so you pull the camera in closer
and you make it a MVC type fighter.
Like it or not MVC 3 paid really close attention to have characters fight, look at dante's moveset
incoperating movements, powers and abilties he used in the past and how they flow into each other,
to make combos that can flow from the next 123 can be 134 and so on.
Also playstation needs to give them an adequte budget so they can get crash and spyro in the next one, a reboot, just reboot it
call it something like:'Star fighters' or 'royal rumble' something else.
And that should be a good start!
I think it should still be a platform fighter. Time is now. Everyone is praising Multiversus so why not do another platform fighter?

You made great points. But lemme say my thoughts:
First off, ever since All-Stars came out, surprisingly Smash got Joker, Snake and Cloud. Heck, Rumours say that Crash and Hayabusa are joining soon.
So if Crash somehow doesn't join Smash, maybe All-Stars could grab him?
Sure, Smash would always be the better platform fighter, but All-Stars doesn't need to rival Smash. We live in a world where Indie Pogo, Rivals of Aether, Brawlhalla and Brawlout all exist. All-Stars could just be "THE SMASH FOR PS FANS" instead of grabbing the others available on PS5.
Speaking of which, i would like to see PSASBR2 to *not be cross-gen.* That just limits everything you can do.
Like for example, Smash 4 had to be divided on two platforms, limiting everything Sakurai could make. But when Ultimate rolled around, it was only on Switch. Meaning they could make the game push the Switch to it's limits and bringing EVERYONE back, aswell as bringing a smoother 8-Player mode and better graphics.
PSASBR2 should do the same thing and push the PS5 to it's limits.
As for the gameplay, I do like your idea.

I know you didn’t include Snake since he’s in Smash, but personally I would’ve at LEAST included Venom Snake or Big Boss to represent the Metal Gear legacy, and that they’re both different characters than Solid.
I also would’ve added Alucard from Castlevania aswell, but other than that, great list.
I had more time on this game than the all Smash Bros. games combined. Great vid. I 100% agree with your statements. This game NEEDS to make a comeback.

My wishlist for either a reboot or a sequel:
- Turn it into a traditional 2D fighting game.
- Story Mode: It doesn’t have to NRS style, but I want this game to have its own story with the characters interacting each other. Maybe it could be
- Arcade Endings: Personally I thought the arcade endings for each character were pretty lame. It would always be *character hears about this* and ends off with “character gets this*. I want endings similar to MVC3 where sometimes characters would up in different worlds helping or facing off a different character from a different franchise
- A unique art style would work well for every character, just like how in CVS, the SNK characters had their own Capcom sprite art, and in SVC, the Capcom characters had their own sprite art.
- Presentation: When it comes to UI and soundtrack, PlayStation always had this calm, and smooth music to it. I think this game needs to have a synth style soundtrack to it. Roster select screen should have a PS2 inspired style to it.

Bloodborne x Devil May Cry (Set in the bridge where you fight the Blood Starved Beast, who is then cut down by either Vergil, Nero, Trish or Lady)
Resident Evil x MediEvil (R.P.D Station is infested with zombies, lickers, and even with enemies from MediEvil!)
Yakuza x Tekken (The King Of Iron Fist Tournament with Yakuza characters and Tekken characters in the background. Goro Majima and Paul can be seen fighting it out)
- Twisted Metal x Gran Turismo (A race track suddenly becomes chaotic when Twisted Metal vehicles clash together, turning it into a warzone)
- Spyro x Demon Souls (Dragon-realm invaded by the Dragon God from Demon Souls)
- Uncharted x Ape Escape (The hidden city Shambala is now invaded by apes from Ape Escape, as the guardians of the city try their best to capture them)
- Metal Gear Solid x Killzone (Warzone in the middle of town with a Hellghast MAWLR and a Metal Gear Rex in the background. The Foxhound unit is also there along with Psycho Mantis, Vulcan Raven, and Revolver Ocelot)
- Ratchet & Clank x Resistance (Similar stage to PS Allstars but is now invaded by Chimera, as Captain Qwark fights them off)
- PlayStation Legacy (A stage that includes a mashup of all of the PS startup menus which is now become a stage)
- Silent Hill x The Last Of Us (Midwich Elementary School is somehow infested with Clickers. Creepy atmosphere noises from Silent
Hill can be heard like children crying and the radio when monsters are nearby.)
Well that’s all I could think of, again I apologize if I miss something, but oh man I do wish we could see Allstars come back.
Konami has always been good allies with Sony which makes it more likely to have stuff like silent hill. Smash Bros only has Bomberman, Castlevania, and Metal Gear due to nostalgic purposes.

They should have Bomberman in it as a playable character.
Since Smash Bros could not bother to throw in Bomberman at all And instead felt the need to throw in stupid shit no one asked for like multiple boring clone characters, multiple gay sword fighters that play exactly the same as one another, and an evil demonic Piranha Plant no one asked for.
So yeah. Please throw in Bomberman into PS All Stars 2 and you'll make me a really happy Camper.
Also what’s really cool about a new PlayStation all stars is it has none of the rules of smash. You could add Spider-Man and not a single person would be upset about it
I believe Spiderman would have some moves recycled from Marvel Vs Capcom as well as new ones from the PS4 game.

Well tbh I think psasbr should have some, not all, but some rules that Nintendo do. Like the characters that originated from video games rule, while I would love spider man to be in I don't think it'll make sense to add him. And if they do add him that might bring some suggestions like goku, and at that point it'll be everything all stars battle royale
Honestly, I loved this game when it launched. My friend and I played it everyday. It has flaws, just like any other game. That said, it never stopped us from enjoying it. The saddest part is that it has SO MUCH wasted potential. Sony and Nintendo are the only companies that can realistic make a mascot brawler game. They're the only two with tons of worldwide recognizable mascots. And just throws away that gold mine because it didn't make tons of money for the first one?
And I don't care about the Nintendo fanboys who wanted to call it a clone. 90% of the games we play are clones of the original game that created the genre it's in. Infact, the Switch itself is a clone of Tablets with detachable controllers on the side. So I definitely would have kept buying PlayStation All Stars if Sony kept making and improving them.

@@gajofixe76 They probably added that part to make the title look cool or something, honestly the game could had been just called PlayStation All-Stars. Then the sequel could be called PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. I think they named it that way cause Nintendo named Super Smash Bros. that way too by adding some kind of fighting game words to the title not knowing that those were only for the later titles (Melee, Brawl, Ultimate), the first one didn't had fighting words on the title unless if you count Smash as a fighting word but smash simply just means those characters were IPs from Nintendo's smash hits.

I feel like if PlayStation All-Stars were to come back for a sequel, it should be an arena fighter with traditional fighting game elements sprinkled into it. And you don't have to look any further than a cult PS1 game, called "Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring". That gameplay style would be perfect for PS All-Stars 2. I think that Sony would embrace the e-sports competitive aspect of it more than what Nintendo has ever done for Smash.

Seems like Smash clones are popular now, so it isnt as imposible as it used to be.
There was a rumor that Capcom was developing this. If that was true I think it could be a huge hit. Playstation All-Stars vs Capcom would be a huge seller and would kind of leech off of the other "vs Capcom" games success.
With the news that Sony went to pretty much every major publisher seeking exclusives it makes it more likely to be true.
I wish this is true because Capcom's fighting game division has been strangely quiet and outside of Street Fighter V DLC, they didn't announce anything.

With how many videos i’ve seen wanting a sequel and post talking about how much they want a sequel. I think it’s safe to say people would get excited for a sequel. Especially with how excited people get for cross over fighters nowadays. The game would sell ps5s.....maybe lol even with the ps5 issues. it’s hard to tell if sony would take a chance on this again but I really hope they do. I’d also love a xbox fighter!

I 100% agree with this. An arena fighter akin to all-time classics like Power Stone and Def Jam: Fight for New York would be the most ideal gameplay style for a PlayStation All Stars sequel.

For the sequel there should be lots of resident evil love, have Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, Nemesis, and William Birkin as playable fighters with stages based on the mansion and police station filled with zombies, dogs, and lickers.
I would be okay, if they did a brawler or MVC style game for a sequel or potential reboot.
Coming from both a PlayStation fan and Smash fan, I would be more than okay to see Sony give this franchise another shot because there is so much potential with this series that I don't want to see just be forgotten because of Sony's lack of faith with both the game and its developers at SuperBot.
It was a good game at the wrong time and I have many ideas for what I would love to see for a sequel / reboot, but I'm not going to post them here because this comment is already long as it is.
I know I'm like close to year too late on this video. But I was just watching your gameplay analysis and how to improve it. Honestly I always felt the best way to fix it was rather than tossing the current system out, just change the default game mode from time/stock to Kill Limit. I remember when playing the original PSASBR with my siblings that was the only game mode we would use because Stock matches would go too long, the point system for Time matches was confusing, but Kill Limit, created that sense of urgency that I think is needed for the game to work turns the match into a race to the Kill Limit. But that's just me, I kind of understand why people want HP bar, or percentages. But I kind of liked the absence of it. Anyway great video been awhile since I played the game, been thinking about doing a series on how I would like to sequel from mechanics to roster.

After Nickelodeon All Stars seems to have done moderately well, I feel like that should be a sign to Sony and other companies that Smash shouldn’t exist in a vacuum. We mostly either had little indie stuff like Slap City or something like CN Punch Time Explosion with a great roster but horrible gameplay
I want a new psasbr. Also imagine if All-stars released today instead of 2012? Smash clones today never receive hate, in terms of being a clone, in fact, the smash community seems to enjoy the variety. All-stars had it come out in today's market, I don't think people would be pointing fingers calling it a clone
I personally think they should just make it a health system with supers doing major damage and three's kill outright. Keep the system revolving around supers but don't make normal hits feel worthless
I hope the sequel comes but I honestly hope it plays more like Power Stone than Smash. I feel a Power Stone-style of fighter would suit these characters better by and large. Part of what makes Smash work on the surface is a lot of the games the characters come from are 2D or have history in that realm so they basically just make the characters bouncier. The problem with PSASBR is that they made characters generally only tested and well-to-do in 3D space cram themselves down to a lower dimension count. So I would propose 3D arenas and gameplay, which would probably be more intuitive for some characters like Sly, Jak, Kratos, Nathan Drake, Ratchet, etc. This would also be a good excuse to ad more arenas and realize them more fully. Like the chamber with Francis Drake, the infected town from Resistance 3, ETC. You could also ad in enemies related to the level or make the "Invasion" part of the small waves of enemies that show up to harass the players.
Say you're in the chamber with Francis Drake's body: instead of the Descendants from that game, maybe the undead legionaries or Drauger from GOW show up. Then the players kind of decide how to deal with that problem until it's dealt with and they get back to fighting one another. Hell, maybe they're just fighting and hoping they take out the invaders as collateral.
That's just me tho

The fact that the roster is questionable due to the external factors doesn't mean much. Knowing why certain characters get in and why others are left out doesn't magically improve the roster we have.
You Right it don’t but it does explain why we don’t have them and that they did try to get the characters we want
And it's better to know that they had problems that stopped them to begin with. Cuz that means when a 2nd attempt does happen they might be able to bring those characters in along with a plethora of newcomers, and from what I've seen most people who didn't know the situation with psasbr thought that the devs outright ignored those characters rather than trying to get them. Which was bad at the time but the good thing about it that it means the game could get a sequel instead of immediately getting sent to the obscurity void of 2012.

Just a bit of context, the whole smash similarity thing wasn't just because it "looked like smash". That was a contributing factor, but the reason why people shit on playstation all stars so much before launch is because sony literally included super smash bros in the youtube tags, which rubbed people the wrong way. It made people think that the game was much more of a rip off then it ended up turning out to be.
That was UA-cam's fault. Also, tags were not a thing back in the day.

The genre is called platform fighter. They share the same genre so obviously they would get the criticism of being clones like how any battle royal now is a fortnite clone
Imo, they were not like smash enough. To a fault. Had they been developed in the same style as smash where percent was a thing and you had to be knocked off to win, there’s something there to build off of and compete with smash. Even if only slightly. The stages crossing between in game worlds is a great idea, the costumes, customizable music and intros, all things I wish ultimate had.
Also I gotta say- Supers are an awful, irredeemable mechanic and even though I love the game to bits, it meant that there would never be competitive scene for it. Pick a characters that gets their level 1 very efficiently and can kill with it without much issue. There’s no strategy to it because the result ends up being “guy has insta kill move. Run away from guy or hope guy messes it up so I can get my instakill”
I disagree with your analysis of Supers. There are plenty of competitive games out there with with no-brainer supers. SSB included. And most fighting games with a super option always has the opponent running away from it. In SSB, if your opponent manages to get his super, you're not going to continue running towards him. You're going to strategically make him lose it. Just like you could in PASBR as well. I've avoided many level 3 supers in PASBR. And the ones you can't avoid are the ones that really aren't worth using in a 1v1 because they only net you one kill, which isn't worth it considering the amount of time required to build up a level 3. There isn't a single character that has a 100% of landing thier super on every opponent. That falls on YOUR skill and how good you are at avoiding/negating the situation. There's nothing wrong with supers in PASBR. At least nothing that can't be said about supers in any other competitive fighter.
@@Ryan-uu8oz The comparison isn’t as direct unfortunately. In other games with brain dead supers or even supers that require actual effort to input, they can be blocked, and they don’t auto kill. That alone puts PSABR on its own island.
I don’t know why you’d bring up smash because it’s a point against your argument. Yeah, there are stupid, brain dead supers in smash so that’s why competitive players turn them off. You can’t turn off the core win condition in PSABR so it suffers for it.
@@HelpfulArtifact Not true. In many fighting games, a Super can't be blocked when it is linked into a combo. Hence why they're still pretty much brain dead Super confirms. PASBR may not allow blocking Supers, but they don't glue your feet to the ground. They always allow you to negate/avoid it if it's not a level 3 unavoidable (like I've stated before, aren't worth it in 1v1s). I've done so many times by dodging a super or simply grappling my opponent and making him lose super meter.
Also, how can a game call itself competitive (SSB) when the competitive players aren't good enough to dodge supers? I've played SSB all my life and for some odd reason, I'm not allowed to pick a flat stage in a competitive matchup. Again, how can it be called competitive when they refuse to adapt?
The super moves was a nice twist. But fell flat as you could easily miss making matches go on forever into overtime... This caused my family to write it off quickly compared to smash. That after playing a few matches, we went back to playing Tekken Tag 2

This game didn’t suck. People just get mad when clones of any type appear. If it’s a smash clone people complain, if it’s a dark souls clone people get mad. It’s really annoying.

The thing is Nintendo copied the idea of this game for Smash as well. After PS All-Stars BR died out, Smash 4 came out on both 3DS and Wii U though both were different versions, both share the same roster and had DLCs whereas Smash games before this doesn't had DLCs or a portable version. Not only that in Smash Ultimate, Nintendo added stage morph to the game where stage would change in battle at certain time, a feature attempt they took a page from PS All-Stars BR.

That’s because Xbox and Nintendo have been friendly for years, PlayStation and the Pony fandom has always been hearsing them and taking content on games away from them. I don’t think Xbox has a good impression from Sony like they have it with Nintendo. A few months ago Phil basically simped over Nintendo on an interview, but you don’t even see him saying the PlayStation name on interviews.

Timing was definitely not on Superbot side when making the roster, especially now Smash Ultimate now can have 4 player free-for-all with character associated with PlayStation. *Cough* Sephiroth

From what I have observed regarding this game, it seems that the development time for PSAS was incredibly short. If they had included Tomba, Dart, Abe, Kat, Emmett Graves, and Zeus in the base roster I think it would have been a much better reception.
Heck, why didn't they put more character from the franchises already in the game? Sev from Killzone could've been a playable character. Heck, there were no Resistance reps!

My idea for a psasbr sequel is to make the most anti smash, everyone is here but have some characters get redesign characters, Playstation Allstars can have redesigns, and returning designs, which means you can play Old Dante vs 2012 Dante, having a story mode which gets boring and basic, We got a story mode which gets better and better, having a final smash that lasted for a second, we have 5 supers and all of them can be controlled and automanic, Super Smash Bros is only made for good boys and girls, Playstation Allstars is made for bad boys and girls, ssb doesnt stand a chance to be this stupid when it comes to anti smash.

I'd say the first thing first is to add a LOT of characters in the game. They put so few characters and some of them are not PS exclusive. Second, the way how you eliminate your opponent. I prefer the character's health bar normal bar like any fighting game like SF or MK. I don't spend too much time beating the hell out of him just to fill in the ultimate bar and kill him. Third and finally, I'd like to see characters interact with each other instead of doing their repetitive dialogue.

I didn't hate this game, in fact I enjoy it and want more of it. Also the Nintendo fans didn't hate it either, it was Sony who hated it and fired Super Bots. The same Sony that hated the PS Vita. There are fans for this game and Sony just took a dump on everyone on these.

I want a sequel to this game, but I think they should ditch the platform-fighting style since it'll just elicit more Smash comparisons. I'd like either a traditional 2D fighter or a 3D fighter similar to Power Stone and GoW: Ascension's multiplayer.

Funny how Nintendo managed to get Snake, Cloud, Sephiroth, Joker, Simon and Richter for Smash... All of whom originated on the OG PlayStation (Even Ryu and Ken who didn’t originated on PS but still have an exclusive game on PS), but Sony couldn’t even managed to put them on their knockoff Smash game.
