People do worry about there being enough chargers, but seem to forget that vehicle range's are rapidly increasing and the need to charge on the move is quite infrequent.
Strangely my wife has recently bought an EV because she does drive up and down motorways a lot - so far in the first 6 days of October she's done about 700 miles and it's cost her £21 to charge (at home and at Superchargers). In her old Volvo S90 that would have been more than £100 in fuel.
Also, the general public's perception of public charging infrastructure is greatly misinformed. In June drove a Taycan 2 laps around Liepzig Porsche PEC circuit, I preferred it to 911 and Panamera I also drove that day. The issue I have apart from depreciation is no fast chargers in places like Mid wales and North Norfolk
We also drove the Taycan around Leipzig where it pushed the 911's on track, it was heavy through the chicanes but cornered well. I do think I would soon become bored with the electric whine.
I’ve been lucky enough to have some nice cars and own a Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo. I’m not EV fan generally, but for now it does make massive financial sense to run as a company car with all the tax incentives. It is crazy you can buy a £100k + porsche a a company car, write it off against profits and not really pay anything more than nominal bik whilst the poor oap’s are having their winter fuel allowance taken. Anyway….whilst they have their flaws, I think it’s the best car I’ve ever driven. I usually get itchy feet but currently, for me, nothing comes close at present.
Hardly ever saw a Panamera in company car parks. Now you see many Taycans. Tax breaks need to end. Loss of tax revenue. Level playing field in my opinion is needed. If EVs are so good, then monetary benefits shouldn’t be needed. Company buyers don’t care about depreciation, which impacts private buyers.
Great vid Pete thank you...I have just bought the 4S CT in grey with that truffle interior-Love it!!!The original (no doubt company) buyer paid £127K but the uplift from my Volvo V90 was about the same as a new small electric car.I accept these have more to fall but for now I am enjoying a fabulous car!
Great review, and good representation of what you can expect.I have a 2021 Tycan base, it's all the performance you’ll ever need for a daily saloon. We have the performance battery, real world range is 210 miles - charging from home cost 6.9p per kW × 93 kwh battery = £6.40 to do 200 miles. I also have a 991.2 GTS, but the car I prefer to use on a day to day - I'd take the Tycan. 🤜🤛
What a nice road trip that was! Clearly you two and the pups had a nice weekend away, and what a nice car to take! And yes, the colour is very very nice! Just not quite as nice, in my op, as my V6 Cavalier, which was a pearlescent green called Nautilus. It didn't exactly flip, but at certain angles, blue and green kind on melding together was awesome!
Lovely car. And I like the interior - it's certainly bold! Think an important number is £170,000 Looking at another car site (thank you Mr M Watson) Lowest priced Taycan was the 300KW 89KWH RWD AUTO STANDARD (that's about 400 Hp) They'd like £13,263.48 as the deposit (yes, deposit) And then 48 months of £1,084.54 With a max of 5,000 miles per year.(16 & 1/2 days of 300 mile touring) Final note - - think the crayon is a cooler colour 🙂

Glad Porsche gave you the PCS this time Pete, it makes the whole ownership experience far better and in some instances where people don't have access to home charging, can be as cost effective as if they did.
As an EV owner I suggest moving the home charger close to the Garage doors so that you don't need to put a car into the Garage merely to put it on charge on a cold wet night, whilst filling the garage with cold air. And/or get a longer cable fitted, so that it can reach cars parked outside of the garage. My own chargers have purpose made 10 meter cables fitted to reach anywhere on the forecourt. I wonder what is the real world range of a similar petrol Porche on one tank of Petrol !
A neighbour recently acquired a Taycan and it is indeed a lovely car that looks resplendent in black. However, for reasons that I cannot explain, I would opt for another neighbour's high-performance Range Rover, complete with large petrol engine that struggles to get 14 mpg, despite being an EV owner myself.
Not sure of the colour, always had problems with green cars, perhaps I am just old school. The car itself I think is just awesome but as you say probably would go for the entry model. Great review as it covers all the main issues with electric
Just awesome, the whole package is amazing. The charging technology will need its way into more affordable cars in due course I'm sure. The future of EV cars is very impressive in my opinion. Thanks Pedro, loved this one. Cheers
Really good vid, nice mix of tour / trip and factual data with real world use. Way too much money for a daily when you could buy a 992.2 GTS with a reasonable spec for less, bit of a no brainer....

Good content Pete as always, keep the Mrs PP input coming 😂 Can I just ask, what was your overall Cotswold trip mileage & approximately how much did it cost to put that range back in on your Zappy home charger? 👍🏻
Its certainly worth reading up on battery warranty terms and limitations. Although people are defending the car with "its got an 8yr battery warranty", there appear to be concerning limitations and exclusions......water and debris damage etc.
Looking at second hand Taycans at bargain prices it was worrying to see "new battery fitted" in the description of one, really put the last nail in the EV coffin for me
£134k to start is something! Not just Porsche, most car pricing today is in a state of absolute madness, a clear have/have not condition with many unable to afford a new car. Whilst EV performance is fantastic, many UK road speed limits have dropped with new 50mph and 20mph zones, 890hp might be overkill methinks, that EV surge is of little practical use when speed in the UK is seen as evil 😈
Hello Petrol Ped from San Diego! Good to see your garage remodel look's to be almost finished! With regards to that Oak Green color, I do agree it's a stunning choice especially because it's so rare to see on Porsche's. I remember going by the local Porsche dealer one day back in the early 80's and they had a pre-owned 911 in Oak Green with a camel leather interior and I was smitten. Not a big fan of any EV so the Taycan really isn't my cup of tea, but they do have wonderful exterior styling. I believe Mrs. Ped enjoyed driving the BMW M240i a little more judging by her reaction to both, and the M240i also has a comfy place in the back for the pups. That's the more interesting drive(or an M2) for way less money if you don't mind the controversial styling. IMHO Cheers!
One of the long term questions is battery life/health. Fast charging is something you can only do with the correct C Rate battery. I hope the battery tech in this newer car is suitable for long term fast charging. If not expect the battery range to slowly reduce..
Superb car and probably the best EV. The killer for it is of course the price and the depreciation. Early adopters always pay more but I don't see the price dropping, it hasn't for this version compared to the previous.
I would very much enjoy THIS Taycan, as is, really. I like the looks; the dark colour masks the black plastic bits that hang down from the outer corners of the headlamps. I've never liked that look; it appears as though the car is weeping. A light colour would just kill it for me. Yes..the "estate" version would be a smidge nicer, but this is perfectly fine. A car is great if it can relax a pair of dogs. 😆🤣 What more can be said? It's an EV, it's painted green, the chocolate brown interior looks so welcoming (just like any chocolate would be...), and it's not an anonymous, grey SUV/CUV. Along with Traci's and the Petrol Pups' seals of approval...this car's a good'un!
Really prefer the front of the RWD & 4S. Looks like the new Taycan does fix everything that was less stellar in the first gen. Apart from the lack of a one pedal drive which I'd miss a bit.
Beautiful colour paint. Like you, I’d probably prefer a lighter interior (tan/cream). As always, a great review. P.S. I hope Mrs PP didn’t give this one any curb rash on the wheels!!
Very impressive car for sure and as a long time Porsche ICE owner and enthusiast if I ever switch to owning an EV I guess the Taycan would be one to consider from the used market. This particular colour not to my taste really and I would be looking for crayon as a firm favourite of mine. As green’s go though I think one of the nicest around (if rare) is the Montreal Green on the Alfa Tonale which is being contemplated for the missus.
And have very much enjoyed your videos on the Tonale. Betraying my age a little here but I owned four consecutive Alfa’s during the 80’s and 90’s starting with the Sud so despite being a Porsche enthusiast I’ve always maintained a soft spot for anything Alfa Romeo.
Love the Green, but would prefer a Black Interior .... Still pretty expensive I feel, but the used ones are tempting. Range doesn't bother me because it's just about planning. £170k is a little nuts! considering in 3 years it could be under £70k
You can pick up a used Taycan for “actually approachable money”. Depends if you think a) c£45k is approachable and b) you’re confident depreciation has slowed down enough.
I do think many car reviewers on here are out of touch with reality. They work in a world of test drives of expensive cars. Relative to new price it’s a better price.
Oh yes, as I'm in my 70s now, I would choose the more practical option from the Porsche range. I need to be able to get at least one MTB in the back, though I don't have dogs, so, hmm, yes, the Taycan will be just right. I love anything with 911 in it's name, but bikes in the back? Hmm.
Just watched this after watching ‘The Macmaster’ recent video of his experience owning a Taycan. I guess you do your research and make an informed decision. Thereafter keep your fingers crossed.🤞
Living in WA where there are only EV chargers on the main routes, at this stage I'd probably stick to a hybrid to mitigate the range anxiety when traversing the huge distances that I have come to think of as nortmal since moving here. So I guess (in the Porsche range) that whittles it down to the Cayenne E-Hybrid. Or if I was being environmentally friendly, a used Boxster GTS.
Ped do you remember the mark2 golf gti in oak green, simply beautiful and still my favorite hot hatch in 16v guise obviously, pity those seats in the Porsche are not biscuit brown in colour.
Im going from a plug in audi a3 hybrid to a cupra born vz shortly and im a petrol head my weekend car is a tvr! Any chance of a review on the new vz born pedders!
i think a car that gets missed a lot in these concersations is the bmw i4 M50, never mentioned. my first EV, nice inside, decent ride, 500+ hp so rapid and half the price of the tycan
Not knowing much (anything) about EVs I’m rather taken by the Taycan..not so much the fantasy price though. What a stunning colour and with a lighter tan interior it would be spectacular. Quick question…if the Porsche / Ionity charging station can offer 350kw and the Taycan can accept it what’s the reason it topped out at 280kw charging speed? Also why stop at 80% as opposed to a 100% and by doing so reduce the range to 240 miles…assuming you’re brave enough to run it down to 0% which surely nobody would do? Thanks for a good video.
And for those saying about the ev economy.........compare as you would an ICE car. Oh my Porsche GT3 gets less MPG than my diesel hatch........... sounds daft yes? Same with EV's
MG did a colour like that in the 90's. LOL turned the speed warning off as it was red at 60 mph. I thought the new spec car was supposed to do 400 miles ? Will the new car have as many problems as the first gen. Buyer beware of used Taycans I would only buy from a Porsche dealer as you get a 2 year warranty included.
Not tested a Porsche Taycan but an planning to drive one at Porsche Centre Colchester on Tuesday 8th October but sadly don't know which model I'll be taken out in my I'm hoping it's the 4S edition.

Great to hear 👍
Peter, that colour is special/ The car is very special. Envy is the word I keep thinking.
Owned an Oak Green VW Golf MK2 GTI 16v in the same named colour. It’s a fantastic colour as is the Porsche version.
That is a very impressive car.I think it would be Cross Tourismo for me.Great review as always.
There is an argument to say that: averaging 50mph doesn’t require 700bhp…
True but then why is there a need for most cars with 300+bhp!
It's the Turismo for me and I agree as that colour is just beautiful 😊
👍
Great review, and good representation of what you can expect.I have a 2021 Tycan base, it's all the performance you’ll ever need for a daily saloon. We have the performance battery, real world range is 210 miles - charging from home cost 6.9p per kW × 93 kwh battery = £6.40 to do 200 miles.
I also have a 991.2 GTS, but the car I prefer to use on a day to day - I'd take the Tycan. 🤜🤛
0-60 2.5 seconds with two pups in the back , yes want to see that one ..............
Nice 👌
Lovely car.
And I like the interior - it's certainly bold!
Think an important number is £170,000
Looking at another car site (thank you Mr M Watson)
Lowest priced Taycan was the 300KW 89KWH RWD AUTO STANDARD (that's about 400 Hp)
They'd like £13,263.48 as the deposit (yes, deposit)
And then 48 months of £1,084.54
With a max of 5,000 miles per year.(16 & 1/2 days of 300 mile touring)
Final note - - think the crayon is a cooler colour 🙂
Love it that you didn’t argue with Mrs PP, when she was sat in the drivers seat! We know our place…lol
LOL 😂
Excellent video Ped, and a complete contrast to the other guy who has one of these, and seems to have problems and issues everywhere he goes in it! 😁😁
👍
Because unlike Schmeeeee, Ped is not a drama queen.
@@Thisonegoestoeleven666Might not be Tim there is a other guy who’s clips in truth are dreadful he likes drama, he as a Taycan and just bitches about it but it’s to play for a certain audience but it doesn’t really work as he just comes over as a prat. If it’s the guy I’m thinking he deliberately stayed at one of the worst hotel use to bitch about it and his pal drives a old Volvo that looks crap and doesn’t offer the comfort of a modern Car but seemingly we should all be driving Diesel E Aimee it’s his choice, he’s a prat too and his content is desperate because well he’s not to interesting and just parrots bad EV news.
@@SWR112 I couldn't agree more.....👍👍
Oh well Ped,that's Mrs Peds Christmas present sorted,Well done.👍👍
Yep 😮
Launch control in this car is a proper head rush, like you are in a spaceship or something.
I particularly like the charging display showing it fluid at the top, as EVs slow like as if we were filling a cup fast. We would need to slow to fill to %100
Exactly 👍
If someone gifted me a Taycan like this one I certainly wouldn't say no but, as a personal purchase, it just doesn't make financial sense, at least not for a new one. After watching some of your videos I did, however, put a deposit down on a 718 Boxster S in Miami blue, which I pick up next weekend (12th Oct). A GTS was going to be too expensive to insure my 21yo son on (he'll be sharing the car with me. I retire 2 days before we collect it, so it'll be mine when my son's working, and his when he's off) but the car we're getting is really well spec'd so I'm sure we'll enjoy it. Oh, and I noticed we've both got the same Oakley glasses :-D Looking forward to more videos, all the best!
Love this. Enjoy the Boxster 👍
i agree, stunning spec inside and out, blistering performance when/if you need it.
I’m definitely going to get a used GTS!! Love this car!!
Good choice!
The EV haters are missing out . This is seriously good car have to drive one before you judge
I agree 👍
@@PetrolPedI also run a M3 touring and that only does 340 motorway miles, around town lucky if it goes over 200.. really is no difference
Yup, we're missing out on that depreciation
@@brutusoftroy2810 for personal use yes not great, business use even if you loose 50% in 1st year the tax breaks out weigh the losses. My M3 touring lost £25k in 1st year no escaping it on most new cars…
Nice
Glad Porsche gave you the PCS this time Pete, it makes the whole ownership experience far better and in some instances where people don't have access to home charging, can be as cost effective as if they did.
It sure did 👍
As an EV owner I suggest moving the home charger close to the Garage doors so that you don't need to put a car into the Garage merely to put it on charge on a cold wet night, whilst filling the garage with cold air. And/or get a longer cable fitted, so that it can reach cars parked outside of the garage. My own chargers have purpose made 10 meter cables fitted to reach anywhere on the forecourt.
I wonder what is the real world range of a similar petrol Porche on one tank of Petrol !
If I had an EV permanently I might do that 👍
@@PetrolPed It is only a matter of time.
A 911 in that colour combo would be worthwhile.
Lovely car. I quite like the truffle but think it could benefit with some carbon or another colour to break it up a bit.
love the oak green but not gone off chocolate inside altho the seats look the same as my 928s
The Taycan became the whipping boy for EV’s!
Not sure of the colour, always had problems with green cars, perhaps I am just old school. The car itself I think is just awesome but as you say probably would go for the entry model. Great review as it covers all the main issues with electric
Thanks 🙏🏻
The best Tycan video I've seen, 👍
Wow, thanks!
Just awesome, the whole package is amazing. The charging technology will need its way into more affordable cars in due course I'm sure. The future of EV cars is very impressive in my opinion. Thanks Pedro, loved this one. Cheers
Going to get mine in oak green definitely 👍
Not an EV fan at all but would surely learn to appreciate this car. Best colour ever indeed. Green and brown is a lovely combo. Cheers!
Really good vid, nice mix of tour / trip and factual data with real world use. Way too much money for a daily when you could buy a 992.2 GTS with a reasonable spec for less, bit of a no brainer....
That would be where my money went 👍
You was only a few mile from my house at when you went past the dormy house and you didn’t drop by to have a cuppa and show me the car! But never mind I’m in your neck of the woods this week, don’t bother putting the kettle on😂😂
Good content Pete as always, keep the Mrs PP input coming 😂
Can I just ask, what was your overall Cotswold trip mileage & approximately how much did it cost to put that range back in on your Zappy home charger? 👍🏻
Trip was 260 miles. I picked up the car with 100% so only put about 15% in at home. That Cotswold trip would probably cost less than £10
Its certainly worth reading up on battery warranty terms and limitations. Although people are defending the car with "its got an 8yr battery warranty", there appear to be concerning limitations and exclusions......water and debris damage etc.
Looking at second hand Taycans at bargain prices it was worrying to see "new battery fitted" in the description of one, really put the last nail in the EV coffin for me
They did a Oak Green Mk2 Golf GTi. Seems a bit lighter than that from memory.
About 1300kg lighter 😂
£134k to start is something!
Not just Porsche, most car pricing today is in a state of absolute madness, a clear have/have not condition with many unable to afford a new car.
Whilst EV performance is fantastic, many UK road speed limits have dropped with new 50mph and 20mph zones, 890hp might be overkill methinks, that EV surge is of little practical use when speed in the UK is seen as evil 😈
What an absolute amazing car. The EV haters just can't handle it 😂 great review 👍
And that builders face and comment made me laugh my head off 😂😂😂😂
And sales of new Diesel cars are now outstripping sales of new EVs! Hmmmm food for thought tree huggers!!
@@andylaws4247No they’re not.
Stunning interior 👍
Indeed 👍
Unless I'm struggling to Scotland and back I should be ok with that range but can't help wanting more range
Thanks for this 👍
Steve wasn't actually ready... 😂
😂😂😂
One of the long term questions is battery life/health. Fast charging is something you can only do with the correct C Rate battery. I hope the battery tech in this newer car is suitable for long term fast charging. If not expect the battery range to slowly reduce..
I’m pretty sure they designed it do that 👍
I agree 1000% on the colour, it is amazing
👍
Superb car and probably the best EV. The killer for it is of course the price and the depreciation. Early adopters always pay more but I don't see the price dropping, it hasn't for this version compared to the previous.
Pete, you do know you’re a passenger in that car for good🤣🤣👍
Probably 😂
Love a Porsche !!! Brilliant cars, Tracy in the driver's seat 😅
What more can be said? It's an EV, it's painted green, the chocolate brown interior looks so welcoming (just like any chocolate would be...), and it's not an anonymous, grey SUV/CUV. Along with Traci's and the Petrol Pups' seals of approval...this car's a good'un!
Cheers Jim 👍
Mk2 Golf GTI 16v looked the best in Oak Green metallic back in the day.
Really prefer the front of the RWD & 4S. Looks like the new Taycan does fix everything that was less stellar in the first gen.
Apart from the lack of a one pedal drive which I'd miss a bit.
These make a lot of sense bought part used, get a good spec cared for example and most of the deficiencies are overridden.
Lovely looking car and that colour is gorgeous. The garage is looking good and looks like the doors are on?
Beautiful colour paint. Like you, I’d probably prefer a lighter interior (tan/cream). As always, a great review.
P.S. I hope Mrs PP didn’t give this one any curb rash on the wheels!!
No. Returned safely 👍
Love Montreal Green 👌
£45k for a Taycan is very ‘approachable’ 👍
@@PetrolPed for a Taycan it seems a bargain. For a car, and the majority of people, it’s waaaaay out of reach.
@@tonyprice-j2p have you looked at the price of new cars recently?
@@Metro6am the world has gone mad. I’ll keep my 640d and cayenne diesel a while yet, and rely on someone else paying for the depreciation
More pups and Mrs Ped please.
Hi Peds
Hi 👋
Oh yes, as I'm in my 70s now, I would choose the more practical option from the Porsche range. I need to be able to get at least one MTB in the back, though I don't have dogs, so, hmm, yes, the Taycan will be just right. I love anything with 911 in it's name, but bikes in the back? Hmm.
Just watched this after watching ‘The Macmaster’ recent video of his experience owning a Taycan. I guess you do your research and make an informed decision. Thereafter keep your fingers crossed.🤞
No. The Lucid Air Sapphire is the one👌👌👌
Rapid charge is impressive, but not as staggering as the rapid depreciation. Best to buy a Kia EV6 or Ioniq 5
You forgot to mention you can get a 2023 model with low mileage for less than half price.
And what a superb bargain that would be.
There’s no denying it’s aesthetic beauty, but that price and catastrophic depreciation 😳
i think a car that gets missed a lot in these concersations is the bmw i4 M50, never mentioned. my first EV, nice inside, decent ride, 500+ hp so rapid and half the price of the tycan
Love it , you can’t even get to drive your own test car. lol 😂. Well done mrs P. 👍👍
😂😂😂
If the Gov equalize the EV charging VAT it could be game changing as the cist to charge away from home is eyewatering especially fast chargers
They are all rapid 😂
There seems to be a lot of road noise in the car, while you're travelling solo to Portsmouth. I thought it was a rumble stripe but it does go on.
It’s a noisy bit of motorway and the camera mic always makes it sound worse that it is 👍
@@PetrolPed Probably emphasised by lack of engine noise.
If you have 85k to buy one, why should you worry about charging costs?
