    Richard, you have a unique ability in the trade to rarely appear “rushed”! I know when I get going on something I tend to try and work on it at warp speed and get through it. But you keep a steady pace, take the time, keep your wits about you. I am sure you have those crazy times like all of us but I’ve noticed this consistently over the years in your videos, and I admire it.

    Funny how new vertical shiplap looks exactly like the old 1980's painted paneling I'm remodeling right out of my house. What the customer wants, he gets...

      That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thumbnail. I still have a bedroom with that paneling in it. I hope Richard gives us a part 2 and maybe I can get an idea of what to do with it other than ripping it out! ha!

    Hello! I have a quick question, I recently had an accent shiplap wall done, and the guys who installed it left a mess of overspray (white) from when they painted the boards. I have brown wood tile flooring and was wondering what you guys use to clean up floors? I know you guys do a good job at prepping the area to avoid this, but unfortunately for me it happened and it’s been a pain on trying to get them to comeback out to clean up the mess they left behind! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Keep up the great work!

    In England, You’d have to put horizontal batterns behind them first to give a flat, even surface to fix to. I hardly ever come across perfectly flat and straight walls to directly install panelling on to. The Houses in America look like a dream to work on. Looks cool though.

    You need the biggest one you can afford. I bought a old Horse Trailer and have a Shop setup. With generator on roof and racks. Think about it the hay loft up top for storage, a built in ladder with a tack room, all your tools fit up front, with saw, router table, mini lathe. Aluminium are great but a older steel ones cheap at Auctions. PS if you can park trailer in back yard, I put a garage door in back of garage, drove thru to back yard, poured a Concrete pad, turn around to garage door front. Just saying.

    Yeah, HOA's typically suck like a $300.00 shop vac. Small minded people playing neighborhood overlord. If and when you get a trailer, opt for the 16' length, bearing in mind that 16' is a standard MDF length. Yeah I know, sometimes it's 14', sometimes it's 17', but you can squeeze a 17' length into a 16' trailer, not so much a 14' trailer. How do I know? I work from a 15' box van. Many times I wish for that extra foot. Fitted at a goofy diagonal, 16' material will work, you just get to use bad words in loading and unloading. Go 8' width, not 7'. The 7 ft. trailer will make you feel like you can't throw the cat out without getting fur in your teeth. 8 ft. let's you put shelves on both sides if needed.

    • @renderwood
      @renderwood 3 роки тому +1

      I had to google what HOA is, I am from Europe. So local housing rules state if you can keep trailer on your own yard? Or is it on side of the road?

    • @ckr430
      @ckr430 3 роки тому

      Render Wood yes some neighborhoods have rules or usually called “covenants”about what can and can’t be done within that development.. rules range from what colors you can paint your house to what you want to accessorize the exterior with.

  • @daviddperrijr3688
    @daviddperrijr3688 3 роки тому

    How about a box van instead of a trailer. That would avoid issues with HOA. Something like a Ram ProMaster Cargo

  • @andrewjakakas2502
    @andrewjakakas2502 3 роки тому

    Hey marine have you given any thought to a tool trailer? I know you said that your HOA said no trailers. But since you sold your boat, you could keep your custom tool trailer in one bay of your garage, nice and safe indoors. You live in Texas and the weather is pretty mild as far as cold so the truck will be ok outside, your tool trailer inside out of prying eyes. That guy Ron Paulk has a nice trail set up , just a thought one marine to another.

    Hey Richard, I tried out the tripod you recommended from your wainscot series and it’s a great tripod but wasn’t tall enough. I found another on amazon that basically reaches the ceiling and it’s $20 for 1 or $30 for 2. Doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but I wanted the height. I can go get the link if you or anyone here is interested.

    • @christophercrawford2736
      @christophercrawford2736 3 роки тому

      John R i’ve only been able to use it on one job so far. It definitely has the height, but I don’t know if it’s going to be the tripod that I keep for my laser. I especially miss the panning head of the tripod that Richard uses and the Height adjustment on his is also better in that it’s very easy to fine tune your line.

    You have to have courage to tackle the jobs you do. You mentioned HOA restrictions: near Los Angeles the HOA in one new community banned pick-ups, vans, motorhomes, trailers and any vehicle with writing on it. Plus, no overnight parking in the street and no more than 2 cars could be seen parked in the driveway at night. People with 2 teen-agers driving their own cars were having lots of problems. I lived in a Condo where the HOA controlled the color of your curtains and the type of floor-mat at your entry door. The worst part of that place was the snoops who made their life's work looking for violations.

    Hoa’s beyond trash, snow removal and common neighborly decency suck. I have been able to live in both and see both sides. My first neighborhood had cars on blocks ,dead lawns and different trash service 5 days a week , ie no restrictions. My new neighborhood is the exact opposite - no sheds allowed no cars parked in the street etc. it seems there should be a middle ground?

    I thumbed up the video even though I hate this look, looks dated af. You do nice work, I also understand it’s the customer request.

    Richard, get a push block to use on the router table, please. Its scary to see you that close to the bit. Lets learn from others' mistakes. thanks for the video and the lovely design idea!

    Noticed that the neighborhood you work in are very upscale and void of people….no cars, no dogs and no sidewalk supervisors…lucky you

      @jubjub247 I mean I'm from the 70s but I wouldn't want to recreate the ugliest era ever lol
