I recently wasted a lot of time (and flour) following a crappy old fashioned vegan donut recipe that ended up producing very bready and dry sad little lumps trying to impersonate donuts. I know this is an older video but, my uncle was the donut "truck" guy at every fair in our town. They have a special fryer that has a machine that poops out the donuts in the donut shape straight onto a conveyer belt that sat under the hot oil. Its also more of a thick donut batter than a dough, kinda funnel cakey.
Love the method you devised for making the hole in the doughnuts. Traditionally you just punch them out with a smaller round cutter lol That's where doughnut holes or "munchkins" come from.
Lauren! You could totally use the leftover cap of a water bottle to cut out the doughnut holes! Normally I just use a smaller cookie cutter from my tool kit but since those doughnuts are small I'm sure a deeper set cap would work well! And then add the holes to the other ball to be re rolled out! Or fry the doughnut holes separately! No matter what, it always looks so delicious and I am drooling!
they look so good! this fryer looks great, I've never owned one, I only fry things once or twice a year, so I don't think it would be worth it for me but if I ever get some cash to throw around that would be a cool toy to have. another huge hit, Lauren!!
these remind me a lot of the "oliebollen" (fried dough balls) we eat in the netherlands during new year's eve, covered in powdered sugar or filled with things like apples, cherries or with raisins incorporated in the batter. New year's eve is not complete without some oliebollen
Shonda Simone I’ve seen them at Kroger so I’m guessing anywhere. I haven’t really looked other places. Just check a few brands for their ingredients. Go for the basic home style (?) biscuits. I’m sure you’ll find something.
