2024 July 5 Marlene & Jeffs Fireworks CORRECTED VERSION
This year's fantastic fireworks display put on by Marlene and Jeff, July 5, 2024, on Bow Lake in Strafford, NH. This is a privately funded and privately executed performance, done each year to celebrate the fourth of July. A big thanks to Marlene and Jeff. A little smokey at first, but a slight breeze soon clears it out. You know it's been a great show when the barge is fully engulfed in flames at the end! THIS IS THE CORRECTED VERSION listing the Star Spangled Banner soloist as Max Begin.

Locomotive Class C Shay Build: N-scale Showcase Miniatures Shell Kit and power trucks assembled.

So I built an N-scale Shay Locomotive from an excellant , very detailed Showcase Miniatures kit. This was my first attempt at building such a small locomotive, so don't be too critical, I'm just fumbling along. Still, I'm pleased with the way it turned out, looking like an old weathered logging engine, as it should. No irritating music, just a quiet lightly narrated build..

Nice "local color/flavor" with the restaurant and your boyhood home. And that tunnel access was really cool being readily removable and made of real wood to match the layout frame.
Thanks, Mark!
Hello great little layout may I asked you do u have track part number for bottom track I looked at Steve's train layout but still not able to get to join up would be very grateful if u can help.
Thanks, John. My layout is very similar to Steve's, but it is slightly different. If you email me at whodgdon@metrocast.net, I'll send you a pdf of my track layout with part numbers.
Do the mini suites have a plug in the bathroom for a nightlight?
I don't remember seeing any outlets in the bathroom, but I can't say for sure. As a nightlight, you can always turn the bathroom light on and leave the door just slightly ajar, it works fine.
Nice video!!!!!
Love your buildings! What did you design them in? Glad to see the grandkids approve! And the night shots are amazing!
Thanks! I designed the buildings using Photoshop. You will notice a horizontal scale on the page with some of the houses. This scale is on a separate layer and could be moved around and rotated during the design phase, or hidden, as needed. I also had a scale on a separate layer vertical axis, which is hidden in the video of the house layouts.
Very nice! Shows how you a have a detail packed layout in just a few square feet. Cover is a good idea too.
Thanks, Marc. I'd love to have a big layout, but my house is small and I just don't have the room for a big one, so I make do with what I have room for. Love your channel, lots of great info there!
That is great amzing card stock buildings
Thanks Bill!
I really like this layout. The upper level adds a lot. There's a lot of features in a minimal footprint. I've probably looked at 100's of sample N scale layout images and this one rises to the top.
Thanks for your kind comment!
@@whodgdon Bill, Can I ask why you used risers for the inner/lower loop? Are they needed to bring the elevation up to match the turntable entry? How high are the risers? Thanks.
@@cottydry Greetings. I used risers just to make the layout more interesting than a flat layout. The rise is about one inch. The turntable was then adjusted to meet the level of the track. If the layout had been built without the rise, the turntable could have been lowered to suit.
@@whodgdonThank you!
Hello I seen this on Steve's train channel but do like yours with the arrangements of your buildings. I do have a little more room I have 5ftx2ft. Do you have a parts list and track plans. You done amazing job
I tried to build the one from Steve's channel but could not get turn table on do u have a plan of your lower level with track pieces required please.

The stained glass windows in the church are amazing!

Nice video!
Thanks, Linda!
What a beautiful layout! I could sit there and watch the trains for hours. This is a great example of what can be done with a small layout...
Thanks so much for your kind comment!
It would have been nice to see it with the room lights off and the interior and street lights on. Perhaps you can post another video with that view of everything running at night! Thanks.
Yes, I should do that. Until then, there are a few still shots of this layout with the room lights off in this video: ua-cam.com/video/hEygBGu8O1w/v-deo.html
This is absolutely beautiful. Fantastic layout in a small space. I really like the double deck concept and how you made the back accessible. Lots of operations possibilities and the scenery is top notch!
Thanks for your kind comments, most appreciated.
Beautiful little setup! Love the paper buildings. Your cover is excellent too. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your nice comment
Did you upgrade the Transaxle Hydrostatic Pressure Relief Valve
The transaxle is stock. I do have the optional isolation valve that shuts off hydraulics to the mower deck linkage when running the bucket or snowblower.
How did you go about creating your own structures? That would be awesome - could replicate anything for a layout!
The structures are made from folded card stock. I designed them unfolded in Photoshop, printed them out on heavy cardstock on my ink jet printer. The inside of the structures were painted black, and the window areas were cut out. The structure design was printed again on light weight paper, then the lightweight paper window areas were cut out and pasted inside the card stock structure cutout windows. This way light shows through the windows but not the structure. The structure was then folded up and glued. LED lights were added to illuminate the windows. Yes, you could replicate any building this way for N scale. They are not as durable as wood/plastic structures, but they work well for me.
Great layout with wonderful craftmanship in that scale! Since you are running a steamer, you might want to consider placing a water tower by the track.
How long does it take to thr garden from the port
It takes about 45 minutes to travel from the port to the Butchart gardens by bus.
Very nice
Thanks, JBG1968 !
This is a top contender for sure
Thanks!
Such beautiful work! It has everything a christmas layout should have!
Thanks, Kev !

Beautiful layout!!!
Thanks Crash, but it pales in comparison to your Polar Express layout!
delightful railway
Thanks, Chris!
Boy, all the work you put into that layout. But, in the end you have created something great on such a small space.👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
As someone who works with very small models, I can appreciate the effort here! Very nicely done!
Thanks, Curtis. Love your Marx windup train. Had one as a kid so many years ago.
Was it loud because the pool area is above?
No, the pool traffic was not loud on our cruise and we didn't hear any loud sounds from above. However, this was an Alaskan cruise and not many used the pool due to the cool weather on our voyage. Your experience could vary....
@@whodgdon thank you. I’ll find out in few weeks.
Hello a truly amazing what yiu can get in to a small space do you have any plans and track component used im limited for space and a 3x2 would stand in cupboard when not in use.
Thanks John. My layout was slightly modified from a layout on the very informative channel "Steves Trains". He has a list of track and the plans available there. See Steve's Trains (ua-cam.com/video/OKG2oWZL9ic/v-deo.html) for his listing of tracks for a similar layout without the turntable.
@whodgdon yeah I saw that but your layout looks so much better
@@johnneville7273 Thanks again John, but it's just the scenery that makes it look so different. Our track layouts are almost the same, except for straightening one of his outside sidings, and adding a Kato turntable to his inside loop siding. I did also change his mechanical switches to remote controlled switches, but still, basically the same track layout as Steve's. I don't know if you watched my building video for this layout, but if not, it is here: ua-cam.com/video/hEygBGu8O1w/v-deo.html
This is a fantastic layout. Thank you for sharing. So much in so little space. I particularly enjoy the way you incorporate the “ trolley car” as a separate operation. Bravo!
Thanks, Marty
Thank you for such a wonderful video, I'm considering buying this kit and may use your video to help with my assembly. I do have a question, do you know if this is compatible with dcc
Sorry, not recommended for DCC, the truck is just a very simple DC motor. (I can't say that I tried it, however, as I didn't want to take a chance burning up the motors).
Wonderful layout with great detail
Thanks Jeff
Could you hear any noise from the deck above?
Yes we could occasionally hear muffled noise from above, but it was not significant or a problem. You should expect this almost anywhere on the ship, because of the metal structure.
Steve taught you well!
Thanks, yes he did. His UA-cam Videos are excellent.
Excellent craftsmanship.
Thanks, Charles. It was a fun build.
Thank you for making this excellent series about your Tauck Alaska trip. My husband and I leave soon for the same trip and I have learned so much from your beautifully edited daily videos.
Thanks for your kind comments, Cindy. I know you'll both have a grand, memorable time!
Thank you very much for this. We are booked into this exact mini suite on a cruise NZ/Australia in February 2025. We have sailed with Princess once before (pre-Covid) and really liked it. We'd done two others with P&O (Australia and the South Pacific islands) but thought Princess was just right for us. Nothing wrong with P&O, just personal taste. So this will be our first cruise for five years. Can't wait. I wondered if you could tell us how Covid precautions were dealt with - I can't seem to find much online about it. I know it's a while away till we go, but would be very interested in your comments. Thank you again, really enjoyed the walk-through of what will be our mini suite!
It's been a year since we traveled, so COVID policies may have changed. COVID was heavy in Alaska during the time of our trip. We had to have a clear COVID test before embarking. Masks were required in the indoor spaces except when eating or drinking, or in our own staterooms. Hand wash stations were provided at the entrance to all eating areas and were stationed with a crew member there to encourage us to us them. Masks were recommended but not required in the outdoor spaces. Masks were also required in all Princess Cruise sponsored transportation, such as motor coaches and rail. Other than that, while ashore, masks were recommended. If you came down with COVID during the cruise, you would be moved out of your cabin and quarantined to a room on a deck dedicated to COVID patients. It was either deck 4 or 5, I can't remember for sure now. You will be getting a brochure from Princess Cruises nearer to the time you will be going that will give you very specific things to know about health issues, emergency procedures, where to eat, etc. Have a great cruise!
@@whodgdon Many thanks for this. It's good to know how it was for you with restrictions etc. I'm guessing (hoping!) that things will have only gotten better by 2025, both with COVID generally and with policies. We are really looking forward to our cruise even though it's still 22 months away...the time will fly by!! Thank you again. 😃
where do yo booked the bus to ride to Butchart gardens?
We were part of a tour that pre-booked all shore excursions for us. I would guess that you could book the bus through the customer service desk at Princess Cruises if your ship is docking in Victoria, BC.
Beautiful layout. This is inspirational!
Thanks, Dave!
Outstanding layout!
Thanks Joel !
Thank you for sharing! My sister and I just got upgraded to a mini suite on this ship (deck 12) and this looks lovely!
Very cool, I knew/know all those places...
Thanks, Johnnie. The Atheneum, my boyhood home and the North Church are still there. The roundhouse, turntable , train station, J.J. Newberry's and Yokens are gone. I remember them all.
More cool crammed into a layout 10 times the size. Bravo.
Thanks so much!
A lot of interest in a small area. Really nice layout!
Thanks, Stephen!

Beautifully done. Do you still live in that area. I live in Maine and see a lot of the same cars in your layout that I saw run through here as a kid. I’m working on a similar “out of the box” n scale layout that I’m building on a 3’x3’ cork memo board.
Thanks, Gamer. Yup, still in the area. Born & lived in NH for 25 years, then moved to Maine for 27 years. Now back in NH.
My Grandfather got me a Lionel train, figure 8 track in 1966. My 10 year old Grandson has inherited it . Memories lived, Memories made and passed on ! Fantastic craftsmanship sir ! Thank you for this video.
Thanks Tony. My dad got me my first train, an 027 Lionel double loop set, in 1955. I eventually turned it over to my younger brother, when I went off to college. He still has the layout, His son used it when he was young, and it still runs well today. As you said, "Memories lived, Memories made and passed on !"
Possibly the very best layout I've ever seen. You, Sir, are a master-craftsman!
Thank you, Zach for your very kind comment!
