  • This is a short video showing the John Deere X738 4 wheel drive tractor snow blowing after a recent 18" snowfall. It does a great job even without wheel chains, in my location. The snowblower has the remote chute discharge control. The cab has the optional lights, safety glass windshield and windshield wiper. I use 4 John Deere weights on the back. I could put 6 weights back there, but I think the front wheels are more effective with just the 4. Anyhow, it works for me.

I have a similar setup, except mine is an x748 (diesel).
I went from an old 430 (diesel) with a Cozy Cab, to an x540 (with the Original Tractor Cab), to an x748 (with the same OTC cab as you have). The 430 was a BEAST in snow, even with a single-stage sno-thrower! That x540 was a decent machine but, I was underwhelmed with snow removal, compared to the 430. After using the x540 for a couple of winters, I had enough. I missed the performance of the diesel and traded up to the x748. The drawback, to the x748 with the OTC cab - in comparison to the 430 with the Cozy, is that the x748 draws all of its air through the operators station. In winter, that means that there is ALWAYS a windchill factor in the cab! OTOH; that OTC cab is EASY to remove for spring/summer/fall usage...
It's a trade-off. Even though it's kind of breezy in the cab, I'll trade that for the snow removal performance of the x748 ALL DAY! I have 6 suitcase weights hanging off the back (no chains or wheel weights) and she'll go through anything we've had, in the 3 years that I've had it!

Block off the area in front of you. JD has a covering that will prevent that. I have had that covering on my JD Femco cab since 2001 on my JD 455. Makes a world of difference in the winter . The engine coolant temperature is not affected by any means.

@@jeanettecampbell4726: Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to work on my x748. My 430 is like a typical car/truck. The radiator and air cleaner are at the front of the tractor, and the fan pulls air through through the grill and pushes it back...which kept my Cozy warm, even in sub-zero temps (with no heater!). My x748, OTOH, has the fan and radiator at the rear of the engine, which draws air through the operators station and 'gills' on the top, rear of the hood and pushes it forward out the front of the tractor. With the OTC cab on it, all of the air intakes are covered.
I had the same OTC cab on my x540 as my x748. The BIGGEST difference in the two cabs, was that the x540 had a bar, with snaps, that ran along the rear fender of the tractor and 'sealed' the cab. The OTC cab on the x748 has a 'flap' that allows air flow through the cab. I don't have a 455 handy to check but, from the pictures that I see on the interwebz, your 455 has a wire mesh grill on the sides of the hood that allow for air flow...
Regardless, it doesn't matter. I've checked out a number of heating solutions for my x748 (when I ordered the OTC cab for it, I got a free electric heater...and I couldn't find a decent place to mount it, so I gave it to a friend with a 318) and bought a set of bibs! :) Maybe not ideal, but it works!

I have a X758 and thinking about getting the enclosure. Does it fog up inside from heat coming off body or breathing? Just curious how it holds up in snow storm when plowing with visibility.

Hi Andy. My enclosure has the optional glass window and windshield wiper. Since the tractor's radiator is in back of the engine, the radiator air draw is inside the enclosure. This means there is a lot of air flow thru the cab, and it doesn't get warm. I haven't had any problem with fogging up so far. (I don't have a heater in the cab). I hope this helps.

hello sir great setup, my question to you is... do you know what's the measurement from the ground to the top of your tractor cab? I'm interested in purchasing but i would need to clear my garage door. Would be extremely helpful info.. I have a 2020 x739.

The cab isn't on my tractor for the winter season yet, so I can't measure it right now. I can tell you that it is a few inches too tall to fit through my garage door, but that doesn't mean it won't fit through yours. I'll try to remember to measure it next month when I install it for the winter.

@@whodgdon Thanks you for getting back to me, I think by measuring the height of your garage opening I can compare the measurement to my opening. Only if you have time of course. Take Care!

@@hammerg42 My minimum garage opening height, which is to the bottom of the raised door, not the opening itself, is 6 feet, 6 inches high. I roughly measured the cab frame and the X738 mounting heights and it looks like the top of the cab without the lights is about 6 feet, 9 inches high. Not an exact measurement, but reasonably close. The optional lights I installed add about another 3 inches over the top of the cab. Hope this helps you some.

@@whodgdon Tremendous help Thank You again. I plan on not getting the lights from OTC and will be installing my own lower profile lights, maybe that will help. Have a safe winter.

I am in the process of purchasing a similar set-up to yours. The tractor and snow thrower were delivered and the hydraulics lift the 47-inch thrower unevenly with the left edge being 1-1/4 inch higher than the right through the lift. This does not seem right to me and I have returned it to the dealer to fix. Can you please comment on yours ASAP. I believe I should be able to lift and hold nearly level through the lifting and lowering operation. Thanks.

    • @whodgdon
      @whodgdon  3 роки тому +1

My snowblower lifts evenly, however, I don’t see any way to adjust the lift if it were not even, unless the mounting bracket was shimmed.

@@whodgdon Thanks for replying. My dealer submitted a “technical case” bulletin and was told that these throwers lift unevenly and are designed to be operated when on the ground. It is still troubling to me then to see You Tubes like yours where the thrower lifts and lowers evenly. I understand the thrower is designed to be operated when on the ground. I had a 425 series tractor prior to this and was able to lift the thrower slightly when on my gravel driveway to avoid throwing rock and then lower it in other areas and on pavement. I agree there are no adjustments. Tried that too. They tried swapping out another mounting bracket with the same result. I guess I may have no other recourse, but I am disappointed.

Kubotas are nice. You may need larger equipment. I got the right size for my application. Anything larger would just be compensating for something else.
