    Nice 4Runner…. I miss my ‘95 but that was a crap year for V6’s… lousy head gaskets passed off by a shit mechanic who was too lazy to fix it properly….

    Nice how you didn’t mask the sidelights…. A few errant passes with your DA will scratch the edges of the chrome instead of TAPE

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017 5 годин тому

      If you are referring to the front, they are unbolted and pulled off the body panel, so no issue there. On the rears, if I happen to hit it with the 600, it wouldn't make a difference because they are being refinished (sanded) anyway. That being said, I have very good control over my tools either way and very confident what I' able to do. If I had any concerns, they would have been completely removed or masked as I did before paint.

      2,000 will cut clear. Slower than a more aggressive grit, but it is also much easier to compound

  • @georgespangler1517
    @georgespangler1517 20 годин тому

    You must be useing really cheap clear if 2000 grit will cut it I've painted and cut and buffed many cars and 1000 is the finest that will work I've ever used 600

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017 20 годин тому

      I showed the clear I used in the previous video when I painted this vehicle. Not cheap. Were you using low solids or high solids clear? Urethane, enamel, lacquer? I've sprayed all of them. I used to use 1,000 -1,200 when sanding and polishing when I did this for a living in the late 80's and early 90's. There are different products and different techniques now, than when I did it then. Much of what you use and how you use it will depend on your end goal.

    Thank you! These instructions were super helpful and easy to follow. I have a 2013 Kia Soul base model with manual side mirror adjustment but the instructions were the same. I was able to replace my window switch in about 20 minutes, start to finish. Instead of a pry bar, I used a caulk spatula and it worked great. Thank you!

    Great videos. I'm thinking of painting an old BMW. How about polishing the color coat before applying the clear coat? or skip the clear coat altogether?

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017 2 дні тому

      You definitely don't want to polish the color coat before clear. If it was going to be a show car, you could wet sand the color coat with a fine sandpaper before clear, but that gets very involved. You can skip clear if you go with a Single Stage paint. That will be applied wet and produce a gloss.

    Any recommendations on a single stage paint for a DIY garage job?

    • @AZOverland2017

      There are many options available. I would go down to a local auto body supply store and see what line they carry and what information they can provide. They usually are available at different tiers so it depends on your budget. I use PPG paints for the most part. Single stage is a good choice for a garage job

    Funny you had to break into your car when camping. I just got home from a camping trip where I used the key to close the back window and went to the back door where I set my key on the seat. Then I went to open the front door, which was locked, and my back door closed enough to latch but not seal. My old 2001 4 Runner would unlock if I pushed the ajar door shut, but my 2016 model doesn't, so my key was on the back seat, and the car was locked. The drivers' side window was the best one to break since I didn't want glass to get on the passenger side. Thanks for showing me how to fix it. I appreciate you making my mistake first, so you could teach me how to fix it myself.

    Enjoyed your video chiming in from Perth WA in Aussie. I am going to paint 2 x cars ( my 88 black Merc 560SEC coupe & my 89 dark blue 560SEL 4 door sedan) in the coming months as a DIY in my double garage just like yours. I have set up 300 litres of compressed air with 3 stage filter & have a decent range of guns for primer, base & clear (devilbiss, Sagola etc) and temp fans set up to pull air out of the garage. I fully re-painted my sons Ford Transit Van (white) out on the driveway in 2 stage as too tall for a garage and it actually came out damn good. But my Mercs i want a really good job so i will need to do my homweork as to the garage set to make it as dust free as possible with decent airflow so always looking for good tips. I am just a self taught DIY guy

    • @AZOverland2017

      Welcome mate! Sounds like you have everything you need. Just make sure you blow the garage out and wet the floor before painting. Tack all surfaces before 1st coat and between all basecoats. Unless you have something crazy that lands in the paint, you will be able to sand and polish it out nicely. Good luk!
