      I installed new 6112s on my FJ today (same suspension setup as the 5G4R) using a DIY garage lift. Tried to use a jack stand to raise the LCA back into place to reconnect at the ball joint, but it started to separate my rig from the forward lift points. Then I tried disconnecting the sway bar and voila that worked in allowing the knuckle to come down. Alignment scheduled for tomorrow.

    Do you recommend it, to put 34” tires? In 4Runner 2021 off road

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017  4 місяці тому

      There are some things to take into consideration if fitting 34's is your goal without rubbing. You can use there components but you need to go to set it to at least a 3" lift. Even with the higher lift you will need to most likely do some grinding in the fender well or do a BC (body mount chop). Also, the offset of the wheel plays an important part in the equation.

    Yep, that's the way to work on the front suspension, whether you remove the strut as an assembly , as you did, or you remove the top shock nut and drop the shock and spring out individually, then it's called the "no spring compressor method".

    I did my 5160s first while waiting for my 6112s to be assembled by Shock Surplus. I saw another vid that had the front stabilizer disconnected as a first step...good to see that the job can be done without that step. I believe just a small amount of loosening at the LCA bushings is enough to get the movement needed to do the install (keep track of how much the 22mm nut and bolt are turned). I like how you individually labeled the driver and passenger side shocks as the driver side is two circlips higher than the passenger side.

    Used your instructions today for an Eibach Pro 2R setup for my 4Runner...quick and to the point which made the job simple, although I installed the Bilsteins on an earlier 4Runner 6 years ago. My only add was disconnecting a few more brackets on the front / back for ABS.

Haven't seen someone swing the lower control arm out of the way like that in other videos. The way you show helps me decide to do it myself. Although I heard the lower ball joint torque values are extremely high.
    I see in another post that the front settled around 2.25 " which would be the max that I am looking for. Which clip position did you choose to achieve those numbers? And, do you know if those clip positions apply to the newer 6112 shocks?

    • @AZOverland2017
      @AZOverland2017  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! The clip positions do not apply to the newer 6112s. I believe the older part # I used went to a maximum 2.5" lift and mine was in the top position on the driver side and either 2 or 3 lower on the passenger to compensate for driver lean. I also have a bit if added weight on the front of mine.
      If you plan on installing the springs yourself the Bilsteins have a chart included to indicate where the clips should be for your desired height. Order them from Underdog Motorsports if their price is right and have them set the springs and clips for you. Brett or Shane are the only 2 (owners) who work there and are super helpful.
      Lower ball joint torque I believe is 112 lb/ft. Vey doable with leverage.

    Hey do you remember which clip you used for the Driver and Passenger? I bought the same suspension and want to get it right the first time lol
    I read in the comments that you seemed to get more 2.25” lift as opposed to 2”?

      A few things to keep in mind:
      I have the older version of the 6112s which had a lower max lift as opposed to the newer version which goes up to 3". So, it's important to know which one you have.
      Depending on that, it would be different. If you don't know call Brett at Underdog Motorsports and he will let you know exactly where those clips need to be

    Why do so many people undo the lower ball joint bolts and cam bolts? Just unhook your end link and flip the sway bar out of the way. Takes 2 minutes.

      Interesting. After doing that, how are you making room for the strut assembly to come out?

      @@AZOverland2017 I believe with the sway bar out of the way, there will nothing keeping you from removing the strut toward the front of the vehicle.
