I just got my scan gauge yesterday and programmed it this morning. Took my like 20+ minutes after attempting like 5 different alternatives until I found the right now that shows temp on my transmission. Thanks for the video! I almost lost patients because I thought I entered wrong numbers and letters 😂
Thank you for such a high level of detail... perfectly done! I bought mine for the same reason as you, towing, plus the transmission fluid change. On a Tacoma.
Yes, I read when refilling the transmission oil on some Toyotas it needs to be in a specific temperature range. This will definitely be useful in that situation. Thank you.
Thank you! Yes, I am considering a few different options. For now, I am really interested in watching the transmission and coolant temps during all scenarios. I suspect I will be heading towards adding a tranny cooler, but as a test, I want to see what the 4Runner is capable of as it sits. Risky? Yes, perhaps, but I still am curious to see before I interfere
@@AZOverland2017 Sandy Cats did an excellent video on this topic. He also runs an insanely heavy rig. Also, a 4Runner's peak transmission temperature is around 190 degrees, which is about 20 degrees lower than most vehicles' average running temperatures. And, since you're going "to the dark side," have you considered installing Wilwood 6-piston front brakes with upgraded rotors? Hmm??? (Hint, clue.) :))
@@InGratitudeIam No to the brake upgrade for now. Yes, I suspect the 4Runner will get in the 220 range here in the summer going up mountains. I need to be careful. That rig Sandy Cats built is a monster and well thought out. You know where my next big $$ upgrade is going. Shh
I have installed and works great on my 20 Tundra. Thanks for the video. Question, do you know if you can move the data from say the upper right corner to the upper left corner? Where I have it installed is great but I have to lean a bit to read the upper or right side data. Thanks

@@edwardportan Seems intimidating but it works well if you don't step by step. Glad it's working for you!
Super important for anyone towing trailers! Great job on this!
Thank you🙏 Missed you guys, welcome back! Best channel on UA-cam!
Thanks! My gauge sat in a drawer for years but just programmed it for my Ford Escape ATF change. This looks tedious but it really goes pretty fast.
Great video, I tow on occasion with my 5th gen 4Runner and monitor my transmission temps.
Yes, it's very important to keep an eye on
Thanks!! You just saved me 4hrs of unnecessary work to install a standalone gauge.
@@thediddlefiddler5569 So glad it helped

Thanks. Let me know how the programming works out for you
@@AZOverland2017 I just installed it, and works great. Your instructions were spot on. Thanks again.
@@RyanC-w4l Great job! Thanks for letting me know.

The 2nd reason why I purchased it
Scangauge has been around for years. It has some cool features
Yup. I think around 20 years now
Thank you so much for making this video!
Absolutely!
Another solid install video. Thanks!
Thank you!
This will be helpful since the addition of the trailer
Gotta keep an eye on those temps
Waiting on Scan Guage 2. 2020 Tundra with No cooler (Thanks Toyota) . We tow alot for camping and this will be perfect to monitor the trans temp.
@@justanotherday1345 Exactly why I got it. I want to monitor temps before and after I install the trans cooler also
@@AZOverland2017 have you made a video of the addition for the transmission cooler ?
@brucekrolikowski2882 I haven't added it yet, but I will make a video when I do
Smart. Have you thought about installing a small, supplemental radiator for the transmission?
Well done, Anthony. Thanks for taking the time.

@@justanotherday1345 Yes, you should be able to customize your gauge locations.
Does it tell you when it's time to feed me?
I will need to refer to the website for the correct programming on that😉
