Day Trip from Lisbon🇵🇹 COLARES & Azenhas do Mar...🤎
Hello, Amigos and Amigas in this beautiful day🫡🇵🇹
Today we are back in the Sintra Municipality, visiting the parish of Colares. Colares has a total area of 33.07 km² and around 7,746 inhabitants. Located on the southwest coast of the Sintra municipality, it has nice Atlantic ocean views and includes Cabo da Roca, making it the westernmost parish in mainland Portugal-and possibly all of mainland Europe👌
Did you know Colares means necklaces? What’s the story behind that name? If you know, let me know 😄
Located at the foot of the Serra de Sintra and close to the sea this place been a beloved holiday destination for years. Even in the 20th century, wealthy families from Lisbon would escape here to enjoy the beaches and natural beauty. Speaking of beaches, this area has some good ones: Praia das Maçãs, Praia Grande, Praia da Adraga, and the picturesque village of Azenhas do Mar, famous for its white houses set into a cliff and its ocean pool.
I've lived near Colares but only managed to see Praia Grande and Cabo da Roca before. Today, we’re exploring more!
Now, let's talk real estate in case you want to move here. Lisbon Coast is bit more expensive than Silver Coast, in Colares, the average price is 4800 euros per square meter. Long-term rentals average 19 euros per square meter, though properties are limited.
We’re here in July to see if Colares gets overcrowded during the season. Well my personal preference is more remote parts of Portugal, but I enjoyed my day also in Colares with my family💯
We began our day off the coast of Colares, which feels like Sintra without the crowds.
Just birds, quiet, and peacefulness. The roads aren’t very wide, which can be a bit challenging, but I’m not complaining😄😄😄
I’ve got to admit-after three years in Portugal, I’ve become a bit of a wimp about the cold water! I used to swim in winter, but now even this summer water feels chilly.
Overall, we enjoyed Colares. It’s good to explore busier areas too. My wife loved it-the old part was narrow but offered beautiful views, and the coastal part was a perfect 10/10 for her🤎
Okay, Amigos and Amigas, if you want me to take you to Colares, let me know here, on my Instagram (millionplacesoneworld) or my e-mail millionplacesoneworld@gmail.com 🫡 Also, consider becoming a member to my channel for more videos of my journey in Portugal by clicking the Join button: ua-cam.com/channels/zJI2LJQj06oj8xtkHgnZng.htmljoin 🤝

Man, I appreciate your video, I'm in Bombarral, but one thing I'm not so happy it's the way you show Bombarral, we are not a ghost town, you showed it like a ghost town. Yes, that's a very good place, close to Lisbon, to the beaches, to the Serra de Montejunto, Óbidos. If you have friends interested in buy houses in the area, just send them to me, I'm a Real Estate Agent and I know Bombarral for more than 50 years
@FernandoHermano Hey, I noted that you are an agent👍 I'll remember that if anybody asks. About Bombarral - I didn't mean to make Bombarral look like a ghost town. It's not like that👌 It was calm because I was there on a workday🫡 But I cannot put people on streets when filming, if you know what I mean😁 Anyway, I loved the town and thank you for your comment🇵🇹
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING IN PORTUGAL AND WHAT KIND OF WORK DO YOU EXERCICE ? HOW LONG DO YOU INTEND TO STAY ?
I plan to live in Portugal. I've been here for almost three years now. My current job is on UA-cam, and I recently launched tours in Portugal. My channel about Portugal will be my main focus in the coming years🫡
@@millionplacesoneworld Good ! Thank you for your sincerity : this quality will bring you friends ! Which town have you chosen to live in and how old are you ( I guess you are 25 years old) ?

I THINK ALCOBAÇA LOOKS LIKE JERONIMO'S MONASTERY IN LISBOA : have you already been there ?

Thank you for showing BEAUTIFUL PORTUGAL I know there are much more to see inside ALCOBAÇA monastery.
Thank you for the comments🫡 I left the inside of the Monastery for another time, maybe when I will go with my family.
Alcool (beer) gives you kilos because they contain sugar, buy instead water in the CONTINENTE, PINGO DOCE, LIDL, MINI PREÇO or INTERMARCHE shops : water is healthier and less expensive.
I know beer is also at fault 😁 No doubt about it. I have also limited the consumption of that👌
Eat soups, vegetables, fish and meat. Among fruit, avoid figs and cherries because they contain too much sugar inside.
@reginadiasrebelo9128 Thank you 🙂👍
Most cherries sold in Europe come from FUNDAO.
Yes, I noticed that all the cherries are from Fundão.👌 I will have to go there. I think I missed the cherry festival this year already, because cherries are for sale everywhere.🙂
What kind of beer do you like ? I guess you know that SUPER BOCK is a portuguese beer since the beginning of 1900.
I usually drink Sagres in Portugal, but also Super Bock 👌 I come from Latvia, and we have a huge variety of beers (no wine production in Latvia though) 🇦🇹🇵🇹
So beautiful! Thanks🥰😍

Another beautiful city. If you could show us where it is on a map it would be helpful.
I will see what I can do about that 🫡 Thank you!
The "thingy" on the "c" is called "cedilha" and it's there only to indicate that the "c" has the "ss" sound instead of the normal "c" sound. It doesn't change the way the "a" before or after are pronounced. 🙂
Finally, I understand now 😁 Thanks, this is very useful 👍👍👍 One thing I want to ask, because no one ever mentioned it. Is Castelo pronounced with an "ss" sound or "sh"? Thanks in advance 🫡

Hi, if you enjoyed the monastery there you should definitely go and view the Monastery in Batalha, but try and do it on a cloudy day as this will give the most authentic experience of the architecture. It is also a UNESCO heritage site. Manter-se bem!
Hey man, I've heard and seen pictures of Batalha. Indeed, it can top Alcobaça. I'll look up how far it is from me. Thanks for the suggestion! 🫡 See you!
Olá Andrejs, I’m glad you liked Alcobaça… I agree. It’s similar vibe to Torres Vedras. And the good things is it’s less than 15 minutes to Nazaré. You have to be proud of yourself for staying away from those pastries! I know I couldn’t!! Cheers & Ciao ~
Hi Jen, I'm fighting my cravings for all pastries, I don't know for how long though 😄 About Alcobaça - it's starting to become very hard to choose my favorite place, because more and more cities/towns pop up all the time, and they all are great 😁 A tough decision 💯 Take care!
@@millionplacesoneworld I can understand about finding 'favourite' places. If I can land back in Atouguia that will work for me because it's familiar... but there are several places I'd consider because just like you said... I've seen several places that I really liked.
Love the video....many expats on the group I follow have praised Alcobaca...some moved there. I think it can be hard to find long term rentals if I remember correctly. BTW....and also @theportugeeza....do you prefer Nazare or Sao Martinho? Will be staying in both in late October and just wondering if I should split the time evenly as I have planned now.....4 days in each....I like to at least settle in and get the feel of a place for a few days.

Hey bro, thanks! 🫡 The burger and service were very good, I loved it! 💯 And by the way, thanks for not letting me use a fork and knife, I made it😁
One thing I see from the aerial views that turns me off are the several large parking lots around an otherwise lovely city. I’d like more pedestrianized areas. Rail service isn’t great either, although intercity buses look ok. As you can probably tell, I’m all for walking, biking, and public transportation. Don’t want to live where you need a car.
You are right. 👍 It is important for a family, too. One thing I can tell you right away is that Portugal is not very pedestrian-friendly (if I compare it to the rest of Europe). I think that's not a specific problem for any exact city/town, it's on a country level, but I can understand that, since Portugal is very old (historically) and of course it's not reasonable to destroy narrow streets with modern solutions. Parking lots, I believe, are because of shopping centers/grocery stores. Thank you for your comment🫡
Also, what's interesting about that old stone "fort" on that hill is that the stone is perfectly fitted ❤❤❤ together, like a puzzle - like Pachu Pichu is... Amazing - and gorgeous!
Every part of Monsanto is just-wow! Even cooler is that people live in these stone houses🙂👍
I wonder where this video host "Million Places,One World" is from - you are very fortunate to be able to travel to those fascinating places! ❤❤❤❤ At least, through Google Maps, and people like you, who take the time and effort to bring the rest of the world to us (I have zero money for traveling, unfortunately) we are able to appreciate those places, as much as we possibly can... Thank you for making this terrific video!!! Indeed - the drone shots are beautiful! ❤❤❤😮😮❤
Thank you for your kind words 🙂👍 I was born and raised in the small country - Latvia🇦🇹👌 I've been traveling in Portugal (I also live here now) and investing a lot of money to produce these videos, so for me, the goal is met if people can enjoy them. Sometimes it can be hard to stay motivated, but comments like yours help a lot. Thank you! 🤎🇵🇹
@@millionplacesoneworld Thank you for your reply! You originate in Latvia! By the looks at Google Maps, your city of Riga looks gorgeous! Clean and very handsome buildings and streets! As your Channel name indicates - a Million Places - to explore! (I have just found your Channel and have subscribed! - Best Wishes to You!)
Exactly, I'm from Riga 😁 Latvia is one of the cleanest countries in Europe, that's for sure 👌 But there are many cons as well, which is why we moved to Portugal. Thank you for subscribing, and see you around 🙂
Wow...somehow I missed this one. Have to visit here for sure! Amazing. Have you looked up the Caves of Alcobaca for a trip Silver Coast area? Supposed to be pretty cool! Thanks for this awesome video.
Oh, Monsanto is a must-see place for sure. And if you get there without many other tourists, it's pure magic. 😁 You knew I'm going to Alcobaça? Tomorrow! 🫡 I've never heard of caves, though.
@@millionplacesoneworld OMGosh that's funny. I did not know. Can't wait - hear it's a good town! Mira de Aire caves are 40 mins inland from Alcobaca....that must be what some call the Caves of Alcobaca
😁 I didn't make it to the caves, but the city itself was 👍 Now editing part...💻
@@millionplacesoneworld I forgot to write down your email. Will you send again?....I decided to stay 2 places ea. on silver coast for 4 days ea. after Porto so will definitely be looking to do a tour to a couple of the inland places- Obidos, etc. Thanks a lot and good luck editing!
@bh8138 Hey great to hear, my e-mail millionplacesoneworld@gmail.com 🫡
Wow!!! So beautiful! Thanks a million
Thank you 🫡
I finally watched this one. OMG, Ericeira is definitely a place my wife and I will check ...although the home prices are getting scary if we ever moved there. 9 yrs ago we paid a little under $1000 per square meter for our home here (an attached house - 8 homes per building - about 158 sq meters) and now it would cost about $2430 per meter. I don't know how people can afford to buy now. Ericeira prices sound like they will be getting up there in time as well. Nonetheless, it looks like a wonderful town. Muito obrigado!
Hey Joe, Ericeira is very beautiful (a bit touristy like Cascais), but it's a wonderful place to spend time. Prices are high there and keep rising because Lisbon is very close. If you've never been there, it's definitely a must-visit location 💯 The only downside in Portugal is the overall real estate prices, which is why I plan to build something in the future. Already-built places are way too expensive. Thank you for your comment as always 🫡👍
