  • Hello guys in this beatiful day 🫡
    Today we are in Torres Vedras. Since we are looking for a new hometown in Portugal from next year, we came here to see if it is worth a shot🇵🇹
    Facts about place:
    The name "Torres Vedras" in Portugal is believed to have originated from Latin. "Torres" means towers, and "Vedras" may be derived from "vedeiras," meaning viewpoints or observation points. The city's name likely refers to its historical towers and strategic location for observation and defense.
    Torres Vedras is a Portuguese city and municipality in the District of Lisbon. Urban area is 62.44 km2 with 27,781 and
    Municipality - 407.15 km2 and 83.075 inhabitants. Subdivided in 13 parishes.
    Torres Vedras is Portugal's largest wine-producing region. The vineyards are mostly located on hills and with area around 7000 hectares. Not 100% sure but in 2018 it was European city of wine? Maybe somebody who knows for sure can confirm in the comments 👍
    Not only wine in Torres Vedras - cultivation of beans and potatoes also is a thing here. We will not stay hungry.
    Its not only about agriculture in Torres Vedras, but also metallurgy and retail trade play significant role.
    The 20 kilometers of coastline also make the municipality a tourist destination.
    Populated by man since ancient times , the territory of Torres Vedras is covered with Roman settlements, medieval churches, castles, fortresses and manors.
    Historical with nature meets in Torres Vedras, mountains meets sea. Whooo...its everything.
    City highlight is Torres Vedras Carnival , an event that takes thousands of visitors to the city to experience what is the Portugal's most Portuguese carnival. We missed it, it was couple weeks ago. [WKP]
    Real Estate - Average price in this area for buying 2100€/meter. So as usual if you buy 100 m2 apartment, price will be on average 200000euros.
    Long term rent 10€/meter per month, 100 square meter apartment 1000€ month.
    I'm sorry for wind noise in this video, since I lost connection with microphone 😬
    If you want to add some info about Torres Vedras - please write in the comments 💯💯💯
    Stay Tuned and Tchau🙂🖐

    We live here...Well in TV municipality about 15km closer to Lisbon and love it!! We have a gorgeous view because it's very hilly and go to TV regularly for shopping, Bank, restaurants, etc. It's a perfect location really! We live in a charming village, but 2 minutes to a small city with everything you need! There are lots of buses in TV and you don't need a car, but I prefer to have one! You missed one of the main historical facts about TV and that is the Linhas de TV...We have a fortress in our backyard one of many built to defend against Napoleon's invasion of Portugal! I love the history of my municipality!! What was the name of that resto you went to?

      Hey 🖐 Thank you for comment👍 We really liked TV, for now really number 1 place for living🇵🇹 Agree that we missed info about Linhas, that will be in coming episodes, because we are coming back for sure, we want to explore every corner of Torres Vedras💯
      That cafe where we ate was O Pipo I think, family owned cafe 👌
      Thank you also for information about transportation, we usually ride everywhere with the car, but it's always good to have back up option 🙂

      Hi🎉 Great video as always! I moved to Lourinhã( saw the awesome video recently!). Make sure to bring your daughter to Dino Park and spend an afternoon at Praia da Areia Branca(the one the gps messed up). It's truly great. Try the Pizzaria da Praia, great food, great ice cream, pretty authentic Italian dishes, seafood and great pizzas! Welcome to TV🌎🇵🇹

      Thank you David, as I mentioned in the video I was so surprised about this city 😲 It's 10 out of 10. And okay, beach is 20 min away, but you can live also on the coast and go to city. Lot of options for all situations. I would prefer to live in the middle between the city and beach.

      At €2,000 p/sqm for property it’s definitely worth a short drive to be by the beach!

    One thing I see from the aerial views that turns me off are the several large parking lots around an otherwise lovely city. I’d like more pedestrianized areas. Rail service isn’t great either, although intercity buses look ok. As you can probably tell, I’m all for walking, biking, and public transportation. Don’t want to live where you need a car.

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  Місяць тому

      You are right. 👍 It is important for a family, too. One thing I can tell you right away is that Portugal is not very pedestrian-friendly (if I compare it to the rest of Europe). I think that's not a specific problem for any exact city/town, it's on a country level, but I can understand that, since Portugal is very old (historically) and of course it's not reasonable to destroy narrow streets with modern solutions.
      Parking lots, I believe, are because of shopping centers/grocery stores.
      Thank you for your comment🫡

    Not familiar with Torres Vedras. Nice review. 👍🏻
    If you live in Cascais, I can see a town without tourists can be appealing. Looks like town has many grocery stores, hospital and a train station if you want to go to Lisbon without a car. There are intercity buses as well but did you notice any local buses to travel within Torres Vedras? Tchau. 👋🏻

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  4 місяці тому +3

      Hey 🖐 I don't remember exactly, but I think I saw also local buses, I saw these smalles mini buses for sure. And city like Torres Vedras must have advanced transportation system, because lot of industry, retail, agriculture etc. In the region.
      About moving away from Cascais, it's also that price/quality for rent don't match anymore, average price is 32-33 euros per square meter per month. Its ridiculous.
      Tchau , see you 😎

    We, the portuguese, are probably the only people in the world who make pastries out of vegetables: we have the Pastéis de Feijão but we also have something called Azevias, which are made with chickpeas. 🙂
    10:00 - Impacient lorry driver alert!
    15:25 - You were unlucky with the example of an old car in Portugal: that BMW wasn't sold originally in Portugal, it has a "K" license plate, which means it was imported used either from Germany, France or even some eastern european country. It's probably full of rust underneath.

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  5 місяців тому +3

      I need to try Azevias, do you know where? 😁
      Since we came to Portugal I see so many old cars still on the road, because in Latvia they all are already dead, in winter they put so many salt on the roads and sidewalks than your shoes turn white 😄😄😄

    • @module79l28
      @module79l28 5 місяців тому +1

      @@millionplacesoneworld - You'll have to look at the license plates to know which are which:
      - All the old cars with old plates (AA-00-00) or with plates where the date written on the yellow strip match the date of the car are domestic, meaning they were sold new in Portugal and are still in good shape (if they weren't they wouldn't pass the annual inspection and couldn't be on the road).
      - The ones that have plates like 00-00-K_, the ones that have 00-00-AA or 00-AA-00 plates but the date on the yellow strip doesn't match the date of the plate and older models with new plates (AA-00-AA) are all 2nd hand imports from the countries I mentioned.

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  5 місяців тому +2

      @module79l28 Okay, now I will know about plates all 😁Thank you, you give really interesting info 👍 I've seen also old cars with black plates with white letters, I'm not sure, but I think those plates is for historical vehicles?

    • @module79l28
      @module79l28 5 місяців тому +2

      @@millionplacesoneworld - Not just for historical vehicles, the plastic black plates with white letters are allowed for any vehicles registered until December of 1991, because in January of 1992 the reflective aluminium ones with the EU logo on the left side became mandatory for all new cars. However, anyone with a non-historic or non-classic pre-December of 1991 vehicle can use an aluminium plate.

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  5 місяців тому +2

      @module79l28 You know a lot about cars, because when we moved to Portugal I asked couple locals how can I register my car here nobody knew 100% how 😁 I tried myself at first to go to IMT etc. but in the end I paid company to do it for me.

    Boa Tarde... I've been to Torres Vedras, but just to the shopping centre when I was looking for a new carryon suitcase. Prettiest view from a shopping mall, I've ever seen. It's a very pretty area!
    Those are nice wide sidewalks! I love museums... I will have to check that one out!

    • @JenShea

      It's not that far from the sea... (I think) but then I also think it's all relative. I'm a 8 or 9 hour drive to the ocean from Ottawa (and that is if I drive down to the States. I'm even further away if I stay in Canada. So for me Torres Vedras isn't too far at all :)@@millionplacesoneworld
      I agree with you both, it's a good place to live. Who wants to live amongst hundreds, maybe thousands of tourists? (not me)

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  4 місяці тому +2

      Wow , that's far - 8 hours 😁 In Portugal you can go from South to North in that time and still have 2h lunch break 🤣🤣🤣
      One more plus for Torres Vedras, land price and size of it comparing again to other places closer to Lisbon. We definitely did fall in love with Torres Vedras 🇵🇹 But still - we just started to look 👀 We have all Silver Coast to see 👍

    • @JenShea
      @JenShea 4 місяці тому +1

      That’s going to be the fun part!! So much more to see. I can’t recall if you went to Foz do Arelho… I know that Caldas has some great schools… Bombarral is supposed to be a really great town. Do you and your wife want the same thing? What is on your ‘must have’ lists?

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  4 місяці тому

      Caldas and Arelho is in confirmation process for drone 🙂
      I also loved Lourinhã, will show it to my wife and daughter.
      What we look for are basic things at first - grocery stores, schools, good if that place would have places to eat out and not huge amount of tourists. And then we check overall feeling of the place.
      If I would live alone, I could live in the wild without anything, but since we are family we need to be in civilization 😁😁😁

    Was that Santa Cruz beach you visited at the end? Heard there are lots of nice restaurants and beach bars there when visiting. It does look like a lovely peaceful city to actually live in and close if you get homesick for Cascais at any time! Are you going as far north as Porto area? I'm flyng into Porto this time in the fall as I keep wanting to see it...there's a beach town there that looks nice call Matosinhos which looks like a nice vibe but maybe too cold? Check out the video of it from Expats Everywhere if you think of visiting. Take care!

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah it was Santa Cruz, but it was really cold and windy, that's why so short visit 😄
      Exactly, for living really good place, because in your day to day life you don't want to see tourist crowds etc.💯
      I've been to Porto one time(I know it should be amazing and breathtaking, but when we visited only thing I saw was again tourists and crowds. I'm not a fan of big cities, I like to visit from time to time, but in my opinion Lisbon and Porto never sleeps in terms of crowds 😄😄😄 We will visit all of the Portugal, I will check out your mentioned place and let's see 👌 Thank you for your comment 🫡
