  • Hello, Amigos and Amigas in this beautiful day🫡🇵🇹
Today we are back in the Sintra Municipality, visiting the parish of Colares. Colares has a total area of 33.07 km² and around 7,746 inhabitants. Located on the southwest coast of the Sintra municipality, it has nice Atlantic ocean views and includes Cabo da Roca, making it the westernmost parish in mainland Portugal-and possibly all of mainland Europe👌
Did you know Colares means necklaces? What’s the story behind that name? If you know, let me know 😄
Located at the foot of the Serra de Sintra and close to the sea this place been a beloved holiday destination for years. Even in the 20th century, wealthy families from Lisbon would escape here to enjoy the beaches and natural beauty. Speaking of beaches, this area has some good ones: Praia das Maçãs, Praia Grande, Praia da Adraga, and the picturesque village of Azenhas do Mar, famous for its white houses set into a cliff and its ocean pool.
I've lived near Colares but only managed to see Praia Grande and Cabo da Roca before. Today, we’re exploring more!
Now, let's talk real estate in case you want to move here. Lisbon Coast is bit more expensive than Silver Coast, in Colares, the average price is 4800 euros per square meter. Long-term rentals average 19 euros per square meter, though properties are limited.
We’re here in July to see if Colares gets overcrowded during the season. Well my personal preference is more remote parts of Portugal, but I enjoyed my day also in Colares with my family💯
We began our day off the coast of Colares, which feels like Sintra without the crowds.
Just birds, quiet, and peacefulness. The roads aren’t very wide, which can be a bit challenging, but I’m not complaining😄😄😄
I’ve got to admit-after three years in Portugal, I’ve become a bit of a wimp about the cold water! I used to swim in winter, but now even this summer water feels chilly.
Overall, we enjoyed Colares. It’s good to explore busier areas too. My wife loved it-the old part was narrow but offered beautiful views, and the coastal part was a perfect 10/10 for her🤎

Next time visit the winery in Colares...think it was right tin the old town...so awesome...huge vats - very old. Colares was one of the first regions in Portugal to produce wine if i remember correctly but I do know for sure it's the oldest wine co-op in all of Portugal...so cool inside and so historic. Then you pay if you want a wine tasting. Wines were excellent. We ate at the restaurant above the pool...very good but pricey! Worth if for the view from a window side table. Agree with your lovely wife....I thought Arenhos do Mar was so special and beautiful....really a favorite spot! You maybe have gotten a little bit spoiled, no?

It is called a large beach, because it was the largest in the area.

We did the same thing packing up our car and driving to Portugal, but you more than tripled us on kms...Just over 1200km from the SW of France. Did you get rid of your Fiesta? If so how? We cannot sell ours because it is registered in France and don't want to bother getting it registered here. Metal yard won't take it because it's French. And now I will continue the vlog!!
