  • Fortress Trade Satin paint in Brilliant White.
I've given Fortress Trade Satin paint a go, and I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed. At just £12.99 per litre, it's exceptional value for money. The quality of the paint is remarkable; it provides a smooth satin finish that adds a touch of elegance to any surface. What's more, its durability ensures that the paint job stays looking fresh for longer, making it a cost-effective choice in the long run. Overall, I highly recommend Fortress Trade Satin paint for anyone looking for a high-quality, affordable option for their decorating needs.

A timely video. I have half a dozen doors to do. I think the same as the one on your left (6 panel), never been painted and in white. They date from 1991 when this house was built and have the MDF woodgrain texture. Should I light sand and Zinsser BIN before 2 top coats? I've got 3 large tins of BIN so prefer not to buy another primer.

Do you mean the supale doors basically sandwiched cardboard but with a grained effect? If that’s the case and they are unpainted then a water based primer would be sufficient and then your top coat. Bin is a good product and has its uses but I’d be looking at the bullseye 123 if they’re previously un painted and in sound condition with no heavy staining or contaminants. Each to their own though.

If you already have the bin primer then you can definitely use it and it will work perfecty but its a paint to sand as it clogs your sandpaper up very easily. As mentioned bullseye would be good as its waterbased but the bin will work just fine 👍

Glad you liked the video. BIN is a bit over kill and TBH.. not really required for what you're painting.
Watch the previous video of the Fortress Primer/undercoat.... It's not expensive.. and ideal as the first primer coat for the fortress Satin.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator He's already got 3 tins of bin and says he doesn't want to buy anymore primer so he's answered his own question Phil. I can't see any negatives in using it but like you said it's definitely overkill

@@Dcreedondecorator not sure but they are cheap lightweight doors. The coating is quite glossy and definitely never painted by the previous owner. I would wipe them down with a dab of meths before keying lightly. BIN would just be to provide a sound grip coat before I use something less expensive but decent for the top coats

Tidy enough to be fair Phil! Tried this earlier in the week, It was pretty good; I’d say it’s an improvement on the No Nonsense satin, opacity was good but as you said, a little grabby on the brush at times. For the price, it’s a steal.
They didn’t say it on the tin, but went a treat through my Wagner Pro 350 too. I thought I’d try with the amount of doors I had to do, and worked really nicely. Used pressure level 2-3, thinned around 8%, with a 212 tip.
As for who manufactures, it’s made by Sherwin Williams, Kingfisher awarded the contract to them for Goodhome, Valpar (trade and retail) and Fortress after the end of the Hempel tie in. Most of it is now made in the UK too, so that’s a good thing too.

I'm not 100%sure but it might be hemel paints who make it as b+q use them for the goodhome range and screwfix is owned by b+q.

Hempel used to, but no longer. All the Valspar (both Trade and retail), Goodhome and Fortress are now made by Sherwin Williams up north, but at least they are made in the UK, so there’s that!
Honestly the change has been positive for most products, quality has improved immensely, but some have been a bit poorer than the previous stuff. Everything is a compromise after all.

May as well us solvent undercoat as a finish Phil than water based satins etc
