For some reason I feel like Jimmy Johnson and Shaq had this same tweet last year or the year before when Jimmy announced he was getting out of retirement to run a few races here and there like Daytona. Maybe it was Michael Jordan then and now it's Shaq. =)

Jimmy Johnson needs to step away from Nascar as he doesn't respect the sport or anyone else.

ALL drivers and teams should have an opportunity for one day of practice at the track the day before qualifying. ALL drivers and teams should have to make the field based on their qualifying speed. Charter drivers and teams should get six mulligans each season to use in case they cannot make the field on qualifying speed. NO special exemptions for automatic race starts in a race… no matter who you are. Also Chase Elliott is an excellent race car driver. He understands the sport so well and he has learned how to temper emotions to allow for a cool head driving style. His number one goal in competition is winning… if that isn’t possible… then the priority becomes finishing the race. Eliminating DNFs is one way to maintain a top ten in the points standings. However, this driving style does tend to negatively impact his finishes in the Race for the Chase events… he just isn’t aggressive enough. Chase is so much like Bill in his driving style. When the car is right no one is faster. He respects the drivers he competes with and they respect him. He’ll rub fenders with anybody, but he won’t take you out of the race on purpose. JMO

Elliott just wants to drive his car and be a race car driver.He don't want to be a Hollywood star.

I've been a fan of Chase since he was in high school. In a strange way, I appreciated the driver profile in Athlon's 2025 preview. I had never considered that he just doesn't care that much. I've known for a long time that he leaves way too much on the track. He's not an aggressive driver. Most of the guys that win regularly do a lot of beating and banging to take spots. The biggest names in the sport all do it regularly, and some of their biggest wins were by wrecking the guy they couldn't pass. It's part of the draw of the sport, and I love it when guys wreck each other. I do follow Chase closely, and 2024 was a rededication to racing for him. In the second half of the season, his aggression level was rising, race by race. The most aggressive race he ran last year, he won. Even though I'm a Chase fan, that profile is 100% on-point. Woo hoo, racing just around the corner!

Felt like he may have been self censoring. I could be wrong. Kinda looks like Jimmy daydreams about being the next Rodger Penske but yeah, need to do some winning first. The top 5 stat you gave was shocking. I totally agree that Chase Elliot isn't all-in, all the time. I remember seeing him bleating about "there are too many races in NASCAR" and I just thought that immediately. He's still a young man, maturity lands on you, you don't pursue it. He's has a lot of money and can do a lot of things, I get it, but he is sitting in a golden chariot career right now (I mean how many drivers wouldn't sell their soul for his seat?), I think he'll figure it out.

Sold. Just ordered the Athlon racing preview. I think Legacy going into IMSA is great. There’s no reason one has to affect another. Especially, with a partner like Toyota who are perfect for that series.

I agree with Jimmie. Sport's car racing is seeing a huge increase in popularity right now, and NASCAR is on the decline. I think he is making a great business decision by getting his foot in the door ASAP. I've been a NASCAR fan since the late 70's, and to be honest I don't care for the direction it has gone in the last dozen, or so year's. For the last two year's I have paid more attention to the IMSA Weather tech, and WEC series, and it's awesome racing without the drama, and bad officiating. It's a win win!

Kyle, Over the past couple of years Chase Elliot seems like he “wants to be somewhere else”. His presence, while pushed out front continually, seems to me is something that Chase is not sure what to do with anymore. Kyle Larson’s abilities and notoriety, it would appear, are more aggressive than Chase is comfortable with. Since the skiing injury, Chase has lost some of his “hungry”. I see this year as a make it or move year for Chase. The 2027 end date of his contract is too far away for what is happening between his ears. I believe 2025 is going to define his future. 2025 C4 will be Larson, Bell, Reddick, and Blaney. I'll take Bell. JRM's first race in the cup series. What happens if that car runs good at Daytona? It likely will. My story line for 2025 is those Dark Horse Mustangs. Can they find more speed with another year of experience with the car?

In the new TV deal, Nascar cut FOX from 19 races to 14. So of course they aren't going to advertise them as much. That's why FOX cancelled the "Race Hub" show. Why provide free advertising for other networks? Indycar signed with FOX for every race of the season. So spend the ad dollars on them.

I still find qualifying for the Daytona 500 (with cars going home) almost as exciting as the race itself. The Charter system is good for the Teams but not so good for fans… IMO

I agree with Bob and you. Good company. Justin Haley has a win at summer Daytona race when NASCAR clustered the race with yellow coming out when rain was coming caused leaders to pit. I think Ty Gibbs is the odds on young gun with no wins to take home hardware this year. Next fall we get to do the Kyle Busch Silly Season follies again. I think Pockrass's final 4 is good but question mark on Byron. I think he over achieved last year. I think he'll make the playoffs but not the final 4. Hamlin still thirsting for a championship crown, Joey could break the odd year curse, Ty Gibbs could have a breakout year. My long-shot call is Chastain makes final 4.

My brother and l went to the Chili 🌶️ Bowl W-S. We saw some amazing racing. We were impressed with the NASCAR drivers talking and signing autographs with the fans. NASCAR needs to get some of that excitement going on. We enjoyed seeing Bell put on a great show. He is a wheel man. 👍🇺🇸🤠

I predict ALL of NASCAR will continue to regress. You take out Larson and you have a bunch of over hyped hacks. Why do you they keep stopping the race and hand out points!(participation trophies) at least we can still watch real racing (INDY car). That's where Larson will be in 2026! Can't wait!
