People also forget how intelligent Jimmy Carter was. He was a nuclear physicist, served honorably developing the brand new nuclear submarine program in the Navy, and because of his expertise, he was called upon to help lead clean up of the Chalk River nuclear disaster in Canada. He insisted on doing some of the most dangerous bits himself. He was told he would never be able to have children due to the severe levels of radiation he had been exposed to. He was smart, selfless, and his faith guided everything he did. He was also a great President. Reagan took credit for Carter’s best work, much like Trump tried to take credit for Obama’s best work.

Yay fellow board game lovers! We also enjoy Splendor! (And many other board games!)
Is awful the first thing I did over the pay to pray event (it's called simony, charging for sacraments and it's a sin) was check the national cathedrals website calendar?
Hey Tim I’m a 26 year old lesbian. I grew up as an atheist but I have a side gig as a paid singer at an Episcopal church. I love it there so much and your content has played a role in sparking my curiosity about the possibility of experiencing spirituality as a queer person, and what that might look like for me.
In the next "Brutus eatz shit!" episode Brutus mentions 7-11 PBJ sandwiches are better than Smuckers Uncrustables. True story
I believe DT wants to help the "average American," and I also think that his idea of who the average American is is a white, ablebodied, heterosexual, cisgender, middle-class, and Christian man.
You will know them by their fruit... unfortunately the Maga cult has beared rotten and dried up fruit.
Good job, Tim on Jimmy Carter honoring vid.
And Paul!
We need to speak truth to the church like Boenhoffer did to the German church.
Yes. I have been saying that for awhile to. This is our Bonhoeffer moment.
Hopefully the world is moving into a new Age Of Enlightenment, and we can all move beyond belief in the supernatural.
Hi Tim. I’m a 68 yr old woman who has been searching for something like this for years. In my younger years I was very religious-a born again Christian you might say. But I’ve morphed into someone who is basically a spiritual person. I’ve seen the beauty of other “religions” and have found that all paths lead up to the same destination ….. love. May I make a suggestion. This is the first time I’m seeing you and went to check out your podcasts. I noticed many of your podcasts last an hour or more. It’s so much more appreciated if the podcasts are broken down to smaller segments. I’m much more likely to watch something that’s 30 minutes, than to watch something an hour+. I follow a lot of creators and if their videos are over 40 minutes I pass them by bc I simply don’t have the time and the attention span. I guess you know what I mean. I’ll be back and thanks for filling a need that has since been forgotten
Aww, I really feel the love in you. Thank you for sharing and creating a platform to help so many 💗
the last part of this show contained more truth than I've heard in 18 years of church
I’m US-born but foreign raised, and I have a LOT of friends who have benefited from the H1B visa program. In no way do companies “pay visa workers less” than American workers. H1B visas are incredibly expensive and complex for companies to access - they require years and years of legal fees, processing, and bureaucracy - and require companies to prove that they cannot find suitable American job seekers to fill those roles. It would be so much easier and cheaper to fill those roles with American workers…but there either are not enough American workers for certain highly skilled roles or the workers there are in the market aren’t competitive or up to snuff. If anything, the skilled worker issue will only be further exacerbated by the fact that our already under-performing STEM fields will be further de-funded, and our college graduates will be even less prepared to enter a competitive labor force. This has nothing to do with college loans, and everything to do with the fact that our math and science skills are plummeting (especially post-pandemic), public education is increasingly lowering its standards (and let’s not talk about the rise in home schoolers) and companies will get the privilege of only choosing from a pool of American candidates who are underprepared underperformers. It’s like expecting any average high school gym student to go to the Olympics and win a gold medal. Foreign skilled workers are HUGELY important for this country’s growth and innovation. Without them, we will quickly descend into mediocrity.
You love Moses and keep the commandments Deuteronomy 10:12-17 Flesh made from dust, serpent eats dust, flesh identification is serpents food. Isaiah 52: 2 - 3
Your kind of Christianity is in name only. You don't follow the teachings of the bible. Your interpretation is to accept everybody and their lifestyle. Jesus died because of our sins. Why would He approve of the LGBTQ agenda when it is clearly seckual sin? He said that people who practice this kind of behavior would NOT inherit the kingdom of God. He doesn't accept drag queen behavior nor being trans-gendered. A person needs to stay the gender they were born with. God created them to be that particular secks. Jesus loves these people as He loves everyone. But He expects obedience to His word. That's why He said that some on judgment day would say, Haven't we done this in your name, or done that in your name? I think one was miracles. And, He will say, "Depart from me you who work lawlessness, for I never knew you." You can't be a Christian and do whatever you want. However, anyone who comes to Him and repents, He will accept. It doesn't matter your status; meaning if you are already trans-gendered or whatever, if you come to Him, He will in no wise cast you out. (His words.)
Personal comment of Laura Botten: The older I get (about 10 years older than Tim) the less patience I have for "the world I grew up in was better". Yeah, you were young and your parents were taking on all the worries for you! Even in Canada "our politics are so much more divisive now". Really? I remember the shoe thrown at Cretien, sounds pretty similar to the rocks that were thrown at Trudeau. The Trucker Convoy was so divisive and Trudeau had to use the Emergency Act. You seem to remember that the Emergencies Act replaced the War Measures Act that his father used in 1970, but not what lead him deciding to use it. Politicians had been kidnapped and murdered! Really? It was less violent and divisive during that October Crisis when there were 200 bombings, dozens of robberies and 6 people dead? Sure! Things are worse now in 2024 because Trump survived an assassination attempt, if only we could go back to the America of 1963 when Kennedy was shot.... (heavy on the sarcasm here)
Trump is now complaining that the flags will be at half staff during his inaugural that nobody wants to see that. And he said it’s the only time which it wasn’t so once again he’s back to his normal lovely behavior.
Love you Diane. I found you recently.
Personal comment of Laura Botten: I wonder if Dr. Carnahan has read my great great great great uncle's Methodist books: The Crisis in Methodism and The Higher Critic's Bible or God's Bible?
Personal comment of Laura Botten: My family "deconstruction" came generations ago from the Catholic Church. We're Protestant with recorded history of even a great great great.... grandfather's journal in 1700s Nova Scotia recording the night he came to a personal relationship with Jesus and why. He was impressed with a preacher who preached this message though stones were often thrown when he did so. That long ago grandfather explained how he felt and why he believed in a personal relationship with Jesus and that's what's been taught in my family down through the generations. So, though I didn't deconstruct in this century, the man in the video would say that I and my family were never a "true Christians" because I don't follow what he does and according to his standards. I'm on this site because I found that what Tim says is exactly what I grew up knowing. The myth the fellow in the video is perpetuating is that the only true Christians are in his church, something the Catholic Church also says.
Amen to this. Thanks for all your hard work Tim.
white-christiann-nationalists are free to deny their families a vote and demand ONLY the MAN of the house votes... but in no world will we culturally allow people if they choose to vote individual to do so. if all the white-christiann-nationalists want to turn their 2 votes for trumpism into 1 vote for trumpism... they are free to tie their hands behind ther backs... unfortunately that is not what they mean by a family vote... they feel entitled to have some MEN having multiple votes.. which is pure insanity.
I want to be there when you come to Chicago. I love your show and i support Rev. Moss. I would be over joyed to celebrate this moment with yall.
I’m sure you read Conason The Longest Con On how swindlers and cons hijacked conservatism in this country. There is ever more money to be squeezed from people. And of course, the idea of having large families is not only to subordinate women, but to compensate for demographic changes and the need for a younger workforce and consumer base as advance societies age.
I "deconstructed" before I knew the word & way before social media was a thing. I saw the evangelical churchibing away from the Jesus of the Bible. I saw churches stop reading the Bible & turn to pastors' interpretations. I was taught that faith & a personal relationship with Jesus was important. At the same time the church taught me that I needed to be perfect. As I matured, I understood that I can't have a deep personal relationship with anyone without being real about me. Thanks to my following Jesus rather than the church I realized that the many rules pointed me away from God and toward man. My "deconstruction" journey was lonely until I knew myself, the person that God created, imperfect with a desire to grow. I accepted myself then I was able to truly "accept Christ" & to be comfortable with the questions. Eventually I came into true relationship with my self, others and God. IMO, the rules are always a distraction set up to point us toward man, not God. In the early 80's I deconstructed because, as I told my dad, this church is no longer about God but about politics. That's clearer today. Politics, money & power are not my Trinity. My faith today is stronger, tolerant and of Jesus. I strive to serve God and God's people. IMO, the "old" evangelicals are afraid of the faith that's truly a personal relationship that deepens daily. That church always attacks the broken rules & creates more rules daily. Blessings are equated to power & money. Nothing is more opposite of love as power & money. Jesus was about love, agape; a love we can't understand but can know through acting like Jesus, loving & healing, being humble and looking not to the world. I hope everyone deconstructing understands that it's a journey just as life is a journey. It's hard, especially initially, and fighting the propaganda that has filled us physically , mentally & emotionally gets easier in time. During that journey labels will change. Time heals & changes us throughout life. I have found that my long journey of deconstruction has opened my heart, honed my discernment and shown me that we are all deserving of love. Embrace your journey! Jesus himself was killed by the wealthy & powerful and by the religious that placed rules & law above love. His journey can be instructive whether or not you're religious. May we all walk in love & peace. Thanks to TNE!
Please let me teach yall some cool games!
After becoming widowed at a relatively young age with children to raise (and deeply entrenched in the church), I experienced an overall lack of acceptance and compassion from the church. This lack of empathy seems to have invaded much of the church. Please address:-)
You’re a breath of fresh air. Thank you for being a light in this world. God bless you 🙏
Ok, So after watching your video I have concluded that your at the very least a misguided brother in Christ and at worst an intentional false teacher or a wold in sheep's clothing. Mark is a great preacher and oftentimes right wing political ideologies align with Christian values and I have a sneaking suspicion that your values don't align not only with either Christian values or Right wing ideologies
Elon may have been illegal for time but he’s not one of THOSE (ie brown)immigrants.
"tRump isn't draining the swamping, but filling the swamp!" Loved Tim Whitaker's statement.
Prepare for spiritual growth without religion or leaving practices will be on the rise in great numbers. Hopefully simple meditation practices will be sought by people really not knowing what to ask for in trying to quiet their mind. I'm only 6 months old spiritually at 60 and I'm excited about the new and soon exploding growth! The more numbers we have the stronger the vibrations of our prayers in Oneness will be answered quicker than we are or have been used to seeing. God is love and I believe charity/love is His Will. God bless!
Sad
Of all of the frustrating things in this conversation (completely on Paul’s part) it’s so baffling that he can’t understand how people tell stories and use common cultural references to make a point. It’s not, or shouldn’t be, a faith shattering moment to think that Jesus used metaphors and didn’t literally only say things that were physically and historically true. Just shows that he’s not really willing to question and interrogate and actually ENGAGE with the Bible
This was a great discussion!
Its so easy to go down the road of people others think are horrible. I try so hard to not get wrapped up in all of the minusha & just stick to the basics of Christianity. Its not my place to judge.
Laura Loomer, Charlie Kirk ...they all thought they would get big jobs in the administration.
You can now pray with Trump for the low, low price of $100k.
Paul Simon still has the best line regarding the challenges of parenting, "That was your mother, and that was your father, before you were born dude, when life was great. You are the burden of my generation. I sure do love you, but let's get that straight."
Im learning so much here. Digging up the Duggars, Ministers of Propaganda ...will check out tomorrow!
Boom!!!! Great video!
More like Laura Looner
So I’m an atheist, but I agree so much with u two. Reading aprils book. Very good. Thank you
These channels have majority-women audiences because men in the Patriarchy are already satisfied with the status quo, because Christianity buys them so much: control over women, sexual minorities, children, and the entire civil rights infrastructure in the US.
25:46 The Church predates the Gospel. It took centuries to he compiled and standardized. Even now there are so many different versions. 'The Bible is inerrant' seems to mean 'You can't tell me what to do.'
April, you ever watch Bill Hicks? He's got this bit where he says the news is all doom and gloom, but outside it's sunshine and butterflies. I remind myself of that every couple of days.
Bill Hicks should be recommended viewing for everyone. Love and understanding beneath a grouchy facade.
Oh gosh you guys - I read that story about the VA guy to my young adult son yesterday & he just was flabbergasted. It has all the magic - guy blew off 3 of his fingers, he had a bottle labeled generically as “dangerous” in his freezer where his kids could get to it. He wanted to make a 50 caliber gun w a 360º range on his roof. Had pipebombs just laying around the house. And the prosecutor has to actually make an argument that this guy shouldn’t get released to his mom’s house w an ankle bracelet. How was there ever a question??
U
