On the issue of healthcare: I have often told people that I feel blessed to have had my stroke while in the Netherlands. Had I had it in the States, I would have either died, or been so buried in debt that I would never have recovered.
34:11 THIS! I quit my job after maternity leave (because I was working for the church & it was toxic AF) so we ended up needing to go on Medicare for my son. His first round of vaccines we were still on my old insurance. We go in for 2nd vaccine appt and we’re told “actually we can’t give him vaccines” Us: what???? (Immediate PPA fear triggers 1000%a+ Them: well your visit is covered we just can’t do vaccines Us; okay well use our HSA card then Them: we can’t, because under Medicare he gets the vaccines free so we can’t charge for them Us: wtf??? Then why can’t you give it to him??? Still doesn’t make any sense. So we have to drive to a clinic 40min away for vaccines now. It’s just BS. I’m thankful they’re free but why wouldn’t that just be standard everywhere! For children especially!!
At about 40 minutes Tim you said exactly why we are not really the wealthest country in the world. The wealth in the country is not with all Americans, but concentrated on a few. I can bet you that in the next few years we will see these people who are billionaires, become trillionaires. Disgusting!
Medical bankrupcy is the main kind in the U.S. Healthcare is so great and cheap elsewhere, like Europe. People who fight against a system that takes care of everyone's health are not good Christians.
My husband retired from the military so we (our child and I) have DoD family health insurance. Plans range from completely free (Tricare) to the most "expensive" $300 per person per year (US Family Health Plan under Tufts). Its excellent coverage, great customer service (when our son was born, they sent us a board book and a card welcoming him to "the military family") and great coverage (until our son turned 2 we paid nothing out of pocket for all his medical care). When our son had to go into the hospital for RSV, the next day a nurse from the insurance company called to check in and make sure he was ok. Somehow, we're able to give inexpensive and great health care to military families, but not everyone else? How is it that the richest country in the world can't have the same models for everyone? The 3 coverage plans under the DoD: Tricare, Tricare+ and US Family Health Plan (Tufts).
As someone from a military family, this is something that has bothered me deeply for decades now. Its one thing to honor soldiers for their sacrifice ... And another thing entirely to say someone only deserves housing, healthcare, and pensions, therapy, etc, if they've given up freedom they supposedly fight for and have threatened their own lives as a soldier does. The VA can be awful and Ive heard soldiers complain about it, but it actually exists.
And I wouldn't be surprised if that's one of the things on the chopping block under trump's new admin. They already have said they want to do away with the VA
@thespookymouse the VA is different. Tricare is medical care on base for families. Let's say your family is living on base at Ramstein. Your family can receive Healthcare on the base but if you need something the base doesn't offer, they will take you to the closest civilian hospital that can treat the problem. A lot of women deliver their babies at European or Asian hospitals and get all the health services they offer but our health care doesn't. We have access to the VA but it's only when there's a bed available. So it's not very accessible for families. US family health plan offers care on base and includes a very large pool of American civilian doctors. Its the most expensive ($300 per person per year) but it gives the most in country options.
@TC-8789 yes! That's why I mentioned it. You have to serve in the military, put yourself in harms way to get good and affordable health care? It should be affordable for everyone. If they can do it for military families, they can most certainly do it for everyone else. At this point, I think the government is using it as a recruitment tool.
A pastor should not be saying the word sexy. Especially a purity culture pushing pastor. Talk about cringey. This is a big issue I have with these modern evangelical churches. They go on about homosexuals and pornography and lecture you about everything you shouldn't do while doing it themselves and then they make sexual jokes from the pulpit to try to be edgy and bring more people in the church.
Hi! I'm new to your channel. I can't tell you how FREEING it is to hear believers calling a spade a spade. For too long, I would best describe myself as what I've internalized as closeted. I'm thankful for my dear hubby and some family members and friends I can have candid discussions about Christianity. Outside of my small circle, I have felt very alone. So, I want to thank you for your podcast. You have a new "church" member!❤️
I have been sick for 3 years, can not even see the doctor I need, the doctor dors not except my insurance. I can not even get an office visit without $5000 😢
Personal comment of Laura Botten: As soon as April finished her church cringe story I had a "do you struggle with constipation" ad pop up :) Sometimes the algorithms being right on the nose scars me, but sometimes it's just silly.
100% on the UA-cam ads. A few months ago, I was watching a Lincoln Project podcast. They were discussing Trump's potential cabinet picks, and had one of their famously satirical ads ready. Rick Wilson says, "Let’s role the ad." At that moment UA-cam played an ad for a vampire film. 😂
1:30:19 Tim as an atheist I agree with you. I don’t care what anyone else believes it is their individual right to choose for themselves until it causes atrocities in the world & too frequently those choices have been influenced by religious ideas or dogma that are inhumane.
Regarding the cost of healthcare: my dentist is in Mexico. They do ct scans for free, so that the dentist can clearly see what’s going on. Here in the US they charge hundreds- even copays are hundreds. Regarding the upcoming inauguration: maybe we need to put our efforts into pressuring the current administration to put in safeguards against what we know is coming. We still have a few weeks. Let’s do what we can, while we can.
Personal comment of Laura Botten: One of the things that drives me insane about fellow Canadians wading into the American discussion about Abortion and saying "if you can't afford a baby..." is that they forget that it's not free to go to the hospital in the States. I feel for you guys :( Our system is insanely screwed up at the moment, ERs closed over the weekend, etc, but at least it's not the price you pay!

It is the bigger structure that is actually the problem. Getting rid of one person does not change the way things are done.

Yeah, Blue Cross Blue Shield that’s who I had this year under Obamacare. It was the only one that allowed me an HSA but had to take a $7000 deductible. Once I met that deductible, everything would be covered 100%. But I don’t typically use Western medicine or if I do I still pay for doctors that are more holistic. If I would’ve stayed with them for next year, my deductible would’ve gone up to $9000, I would start having to pay 50% after meeting that 9000 and would’ve had to pay about $50 a month to keep the plan with no HSAsuch a rip off and this is Obama care
I feel so conflicted about the affordable character. Of course I want everybody to have access to medical care and all of the primary care that it made available. However, I was a newly divorced woman of about two years who had been a stay at her mom and had no job And had been buying my own insurance at the time through the open market whatever it was back then. I was paying $50 a month for a plan with a low deductible, an FSA, and really good coverage when Obama care went into action I had to stop taking insurance because it would’ve bankrupt mejust to have basic coverage
Change is definitely coming. While I do think we need major changes,Trump is not what will transform us in a positive way. I think he will bring out the angriest most deprived portion of our population. Love and forming a more inclusive and socially responsive form of government is not where we are headed. If its really only 4 years, maybe we can make it but longer than that and id bet we lose our rights and become subjects of a powerful tyrant and the rich lackeys at his side.
I agree. I am a mother and I would pardon my son no matter what. But then I feel bad for the people who are in jail for praying in a hallway in front of an abortion clinic's door. I think those are the people he should pardon, that 63 year old praying man...
It’s not just healthcare insurance. I went in for primary care visit my one annual that’s covered by Obama care and I had her look at a planters wart that OTC medicine was not taking off. She did one treatment and I had to go back in for a second. The charge from the doctor’s office was about $61 after my insurance paid or negotiated. The real problem was that I was never informed that my doctor was within a clinic/hospital that was also going to charge me nearly 3 to 4 times more than what the doctor was gonna charge me for the visit. Even though they did nothing except provide the room, which should’ve been paid by my doctor as rent. I am still in the process of fighting thisbecause it turns out to be about $1100 for two treatments for our planters wart. You can only imagine if it was something more serious.
Yikes - Hesgeth is a Doug Wilson fan? Oh boy, another strike for the crusader. That quote from Wilson is horrific. That he might think it is not surprising; but to commit it to paper and publish... they don't hide anything any more.
The charging insurance companies more (because they can) is classic capitalism. I have seen stats about costs of comparable operations/ care across countries and US was way more expensive regardless who was paying (insurance etc). The churches during Christendom in Europe were the centre of health care through monastery infirmaries etc. As far as I know swathes of US hospitals have religious names from charity origins; the whole anti - accessible health care for all from christians (and other Americans too) is so distorted. It is like the Red scare goes so deep in the US psyche that any suggestions of social safety nets; health care etc seems to give an allergic over-reaction and cries of 'Marxism'
Listening to the part about the "health/sick care system" and just imagining what a two-term Bernie Sanders presidency would have meant for the good of this country. This country is based on "in god they trust, and their god is $$$".
Concerning the 'Play by their rules...if democracy is on the line' section (+/-51:30), part of me agrees. But if we do that, what are we fighting for? What are we fighting against if we become as bad as they are? At that point, the point where rules don't matter to anyone, democracy isn't on the line - it's over.
On paper, you're correct. In a just and fair world, this would be the only answer. But in this reality, every time we try to go high, they knock the supports out from under us. 1:23:20 what’s hilarious to me is all these guys responding to the dress question have blue check marks. They’re all spending 9.99 a month just to show other people they are aligned with Musk?
59:37 On the analogical level of scriptural interpretation, the male is identified with the spirit and female with the body. It means we must put the works of our body to the service and good of the soul, which is living as love of God and neighbor.
Y’all talking about Christians loving authoritarianism bc that’s how they run their households made me remember a time when I was a little kid and my dad was super mad at me about something and he was screaming at me and goes, “IM THE KING OF THIS HOUSEHOLD!” I remember thinking it was so fucking funny bc of how outrageous it was and I was just trying not to laugh 😹 Anyway, he’s church of Christ and voted for Trump. Idk why I was surprised when the signs were there all along.
I get it, debt sucks. People can choose to go to community college first and then transfer, thus reducing their loan amounts. But who pays the loans? The taxpayer. Many of us do not have a college degree. I paid for both of my children to go to school, and now I have to focus on retirement. Why do I want to pay more taxes to pay off other people's college loans? They have college degrees now, unlike I do.
IT HAS TO BE BROKEN DOWN IN ORDER TO BE RAISED UP COME AND JOIN ME AND DRINK FROM THE CUP BREAD IS FLESH AND WINE IS BLOOD I KNOW ALL OF YOU ARE STUCK IN THE MUD FEAR NOT THE NEW DAY WILL DAWN AND ONCE AGAIN WE CAN SING A BEAUTIFUL SONG GOD BLESS AMERICA AND LET FREEDOM RING❤
I love watching you and april but a little constructive criticizem tim you need to either put vibration isolators on your mic or an anti pop suppressor every time you bump the mic or table or puff into it it creates a deep base sound i know you likely dont know your doing it perhaps mount your boom above your head it just can blow your ear from the bangs
The concept that New Covenant Law is to replace Old Covenant Law is troubling to me. I think that the Great commandment, Love God, and the second commandment, love your neighbor as yourself, is the proper replacement for Old Covenant Law. The rest is just authoritative tradition. The tradition of the Elders. Not Law.
Really!? I quit following her pre-Trump. I have been progressive and have been deconstructing for over 15 years. I used to follow her, and she would always gaslight me and disregard obvious questions and challenges. Has she changed after Trump? I see that she is now highlighting abuse, but before, she was really anti-gay.
Not a premillennialist, but was raised in it a bit. (Hal Lindsey version; actually heard him speak in 1974 😁) The red hats = mark on forehead hit home.
We belong to a Christian healthcare sharing group which is modeling “Biblical” health care. Having been members for many years I can attest to how well I works. I don’t believe it’s a good idea to try to force this model into the governmental arena precisely because it would be MAGA to do so. That being said, there are things about that model that could help inform the search for better ways to do healthcare.
In my experience working in medical care, they don't seem to be much better than insurance, and they can deny preexisting conditions. Some may be good, but I personally could never recommend health sharing.
1:21:31 God is not the reason no one can say no to you. Grow up. The hour is late, is what these guy's need to understand. If a lack of obedience provokes you to anger, your missing the point, fellas.
1 hr 4 min - So will he return to the land allotted to his people by God? Oh no? Ah, I forgot they think God gave them the American lands. [head meets wall]
You mentioned in the show about medical debt. If you look into it people with debt tend to be less engaged vote less. That can be a reason for systems to want people to be in debt. Saw it on the movie sicko it is an older documentary but not any less true.
He’s actually taking down the Roman Empire but I get what you’re saying. They want a Messianic Age and they’re willing to unalive or incarcerate ppl over faulty data to get it. 😩💔

Listen to Jon Stewart's take on the rules and decorum
Progressive Christians don’t even need to cherry pick anything. The message of liberation and equality is extremely clear in the gospels.
49:14 yes, true to them means that which gets me what I want
I heard The Roys Report!!!! It seemed like you blew Scot McKnight’s mind! 🙂
"Labour" by Paris Paloma!

I like Spicy Tim and have felt so angry too.
I think they need one of those white bonnet thingees to go with the red dress.
57:57
As gross as that sounds, that is probably the most biblically accurate take that Doug Wilson has said....
10:36 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I watch because you have good content. No need to be nutty to start the podcast! LOL
I love watching you and april but a little constructive criticizem tim you need to either put vibration isolators on your mic or an anti pop suppressor
every time you bump the mic or table or puff into it it creates a deep base sound i know you likely dont know your doing it
perhaps mount your boom above your head it just can blow your ear from the bangs
Not Law.
58:23 No - we must bridle our passions. That guy is just plain wrong.
Breaking news: "Canadian CEO hit with pie in face for not extending sale."
1:22 How many blueberry coffees today?
Really!? I quit following her pre-Trump. I have been progressive and have been deconstructing for over 15 years. I used to follow her, and she would always gaslight me and disregard obvious questions and challenges. Has she changed after Trump? I see that she is now highlighting abuse, but before, she was really anti-gay.
The rapture prediction section….gotta say, I’m still a premillennialist (classical, not dispensational) and this shit is getting scary 😆
Not a premillennialist, but was raised in it a bit. (Hal Lindsey version; actually heard him speak in 1974 😁) The red hats = mark on forehead hit home.
Is day star the group in Ohio that takes kids out of school the middle of the school day?
We belong to a Christian healthcare sharing group which is modeling “Biblical” health care. Having been members for many years I can attest to how well I works. I don’t believe it’s a good idea to try to force this model into the governmental arena precisely because it would be MAGA to do so. That being said, there are things about that model that could help inform the search for better ways to do healthcare.
In my experience working in medical care, they don't seem to be much better than insurance, and they can deny preexisting conditions. Some may be good, but I personally could never recommend health sharing.
Or the intro is like those guys who bust glass and doors and stuff advertising their liquidation harware supply stores..lol
1:21:31 God is not the reason no one can say no to you. Grow up. The hour is late, is what these guy's need to understand. If a lack of obedience provokes you to anger, your missing the point, fellas.
Love you guys but an hour and a half??
Please don't do that 😅
THEY CAN'T BEAT GOD GOD BLESS AMERICA AND LET FREEDOM RING❤
1 hr 4 min - So will he return to the land allotted to his people by God? Oh no? Ah, I forgot they think God gave them the American lands. [head meets wall]
52:07 When they actually talk about what's in the title 🙄
Take the mark of the beast or be a mark for the con man beast?
You mentioned in the show about medical debt. If you look into it people with debt tend to be less engaged vote less. That can be a reason for systems to want people to be in debt. Saw it on the movie sicko it is an older documentary but not any less true.
Sounds kinda gaslighting to me, tbh. We can vote for Dems, but they have the same PAC money from insurance companies that Republicans do.
That’s not morning show. 😂
THE GOSPEL ARE NOW THE LAW❤😮 THE NEW COVENANT BETWEEN GOD AND MAN
It was a little much. 😂 I'd rather you be authenticly boring w your blueberry coffee. 😘 your followers like the real you.
Yes, but, Tim --- what kind of people do you want to ‘bring in?’
Trump is like the rise of the Roman empire. While Christian fundamentalism is the rise of the Holy Roman empire. Weird times.
He’s actually taking down the Roman Empire but I get what you’re saying. They want a Messianic Age and they’re willing to unalive or incarcerate ppl over faulty data to get it. 😩💔
They crucified Yeshua.
The intro made me pee a little 😱
😂
