    Another set of beautiful locations, Zuheros was that perfect, Mediterranean village of white houses and cute little streets dotted with flowers. I'm not sure how we missed it when we were there, we must've driven close by, but time is so precious and fast, you inevitably miss so much even in a van. A gorgeous place though, and barely a soul in sight! It makes sense about the desert-like landscape as so much of that area seems to suffer droughts, but as you say, its even worse in the east/south-east. Quite scary times for so many Mediterranean countries when it comes to water lately 😟 Reading about water scarcity in Sicily recently was horrifying. That pretty lake at the end, did it say why you couldn't swim? Was it a reservoir? Quite often you cant swim in reservoirs here we've noticed, though not all. Take care and safe travels guys ❤🤟

      @findingxanadulife 10 годин тому

      Hey guys, Zuheros was amazing. We both fell in love with it. There is just something about white-washed villages that we adore. I (Alison) previously suggested that we move to somewhere in Greece, before we relocated to Spain. 🤷🏼‍♀️ There is a water shortage in so many places, but others have it in abundance, but don't seem to want to share...🤔 (Not going to get into Spanish politics). Yes, the lake at the end was a reservoir. To be fair, even there, you could see that the water level was a lot lower than it could have been, but still stunning. Anywhoozle, we're now off to frolic in the Mediterranean sea..! 😬 Much love 💜🤟

    Poor Seb, but you did the right thing and at least you were only one country away ❤ No need to apologise for that - this video still had loads of great places in anyway! Alte, wow...that looks a gorgeous place to live. And that pool you swam in with the waterfall also looked divine. The beach at the start was right up our street too, those rocks made it so perfect. From what we saw, we enjoyed the Atlantic coast as much as the Algarve. Loved those family houses, that looked like a home we could settle down in, those light blue colours and patterns were just...😘👌 Shit cake 😂 sounded alright to us, will have to give that a go! I have to say I (Dan) did like the transition you made Darren from saying "to the next location, which is..." and then cutting straight to it. I might nick that idea 😁😂 Much love to you both 🥰🤟

      Hey guys, Knowing what is the right thing to do for the old boy (Sebastian obviously, not Darren 🤣) is becoming an increasingly grey area, but fingers crossed, we're still on the right side of wrong, if you get what I mean. Alte and the waterfall were lovely, so close together, the waterfall was really refreshing. We could have done with going again when we had finished walking around the village, although maybe without the extra steps... 🤣 Vila Nova de Milfontes had some really cute houses that we loved, but also a lot of modern ones, with the rooves being so new looking, it was hard to tell them apart at times. Aaah shit cake. 🤣 It just wasn't chocolatey enough for me, but Darren loves it. We haven't seen it since we've been back in Spain. Sadly we haven't seen our beloved Carrot and Ginger Hummus that Portuguese Lidls sell either. 😭 As for the transition, steal away. 🤪 Much love 💜🤟

    I lived in Spain for about five years and I absolutely loved it. My mum even moved out with me at the age of eighty three. We made loads of friends. Your video brought many happy memories back for me. I think most little towns/villages have a communal pool. We loved going for a swim. They had aqua aerobics sessions which I loved. I also went to Spanish lessons a couple of times a week. It is a great life. I wish I was still there but things change and we came back to England. I am convinced that those happy years in Spain extended the life of my mum. 🙋‍♀️

    Hi guys, got a bit of catching up to do as things have been a bit hectic lately! That heat was clearly affecting you both, we'd be the same. You've clearly been spoiled by the terrible UK weather since you were last there 😂 Umbrellas sound like a great idea to keep the sun off. Evora looked an absolute treat - that cathedral and grounds were to die for and being able to walk on the roof was wonderful. So pretty and interesting- even better you could park up nearby! Shame about the litter, another place that might close down as a result then 🤦‍♂️ Loved that fake ruins folly thing. It looked too much like the "perfect" ruin to be real, but we love quirky things like that. The communal campsite seemed like a very tranquil place to spend a few days too, what a great little set up. Craving a good pizza now! Much love and will catch up on the rest soon (not now as we need to sleep 😂). Take care guys ❤🤟 P.S - lots of Spanish celebrations going on for the next few days I expect! ⚽️

      Hey guys, sorry life has been hectic for you again..! We thought it was hot in Portugal..! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yesterday topped out at 41°c in Perse, parked in the shade, with 5 electric fans running, cool mats for the kids and constantly wetting my hair for me. Darren is much more graceful when he's hot. I just don't care. 🤣🤣 Evora was great and easy to get into. The views were awesome from the top of the cathedral. We thought the folly ruins were actually more interesting to look at than the palace, but hey. 🤣 Pacha Mama commune was just amazing. We love seeing different people's way of life. That could definitely work for us, especially if it serves apple and cinnamon pizza. I could have even my own body weight in the stuff. 😍 Wishing you calmer lives soon and safe travels. 😘 Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

      @comealongdear There wasn't actually as much celebrating as we had expected. We're currently in a relatively small coastal town of Moncofa and apart from the initial yells, cheers, vuvuzelas and whistles as the goals were scored and at the end, the rest was a bit of an anticlimax. I think all the hard-line party goers were expected in Benidorm. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣💜🤟

      @findingxanadulife hi guys, thank you, it's been okay, we had some madly rushed filming towards the end of our Germany trip (we're back now!) in order to stack up enough videos for when we're at work for 5 weeks, then once we returned we saw family and then had a bit of a scare with Stephen 😬 I think we're okay now, Darren messaged to ask so he'll fill you in on the details, but it definitely turned things upside down for a bit and made us think about the future. However, more importantly...apple and cinnamon pizza! 😍 Where can we get one and when is the question! 41 degrees, holy crap...it sounds like you're well stocked up with fans though and yes use water as much as possible. Good luck with it, Stephen would be driving to the coldest place possible if we were in that! ❤️🤟

      @findingxanadulife sounds like you were in the right place for it, we did watch the match but we were parked in a layby away from all civilisation which was absolutely the best place to be, especially with England losing 😬🙈😂

      Germany looked lovely, so we'll look forward to the next few videos then. Glad to hear that Stephen is getting sorted. I'm guessing Jam Tarts won't make him feel better this time. 🫤 Apple and Cinnamon pizza...the only place we know of is Pacha Mama. We suggest you head there now...although it might be a bit toasty there. 🤣 We moved further north and it's now 30-32°c which thankfully everyone can cope with. We can't go back to Potríes this week though as it's still very high 30°s. We're hoping for an unseasonably cool August. 🤣🤣 Much love and stay safe. 💜🤟

    Spain and its monumental views. The hike was great. I wonder about Villena, if it is a depopulation problem like some cities in Italy. People are having less kids or none. The ones that they have are leaving those small towns for bigger cities. In Italy they have a program in some cities that you can buy a home for €1, you just have to renovate those delspilated homes. Maybe that can work there in Villena.

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife 3 дні тому

      Sounds like a great idea. A lot of homes that are passed down from generation to generation, end up derelict because of the inheritance tax and that any debt owed by the person who dies, must also be taken on with any other inheritance. For some people, it just isn't worth inheriting, so the houses are left to rot, because no-one can legally do anything with them. It's such a shame. 😔 Thanks for your comment. 😘💜🤟

We have a good "view duration" and a good "click-through rate" each week, yet UA-cam stops sharing the videos to people for some reason. 🤷🏼‍♀️ We have no idea why. Anyway, we'll keep doing what we do and hopefully, eventually UA-cam will decide it's ok for more people to see them. We would definitely recommend a visit though. The area is blissful. When you go, we'd love to know if you thought we did the area justice. 😉 Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

      @@findingxanadulife I agree with Antonio. As a Spaniard, I do believe you´re constantly producing some of the very best van-related content about Spain, showing me places I didnt´t even know myself. Great video quality and lovely couple´s chemistry. There are so many van channels in Spain getting thousands upon thousands of views with pretty poor content, so I don´t understand if you killed UA-cam´s dog. Maybe it´s worth getting a UA-cam´s algorithm tutorial or something. Whatever it is, well done you guys.

      @1650million Wow, thank-you so much ☺️ What area of Spain are you from..? Before we go any further let us say, that no matter what our cats may tell our dogs, we don't agree with that type of dog discipline. If UA-cam's dog was naughty and has been punished, we didn't do it. No animals were harmed in the making of any of our videos. 🤣🤣🤣 Honestly, we don't get it. Darren is a bit excessive at times (as he admits himself) and if a subject interests him, he researches the ins and outs of a gnats @rse out of it. He's watched SO many tutorials, it's beyond belief. With the view durations that we get and the click through rates, some of our videos should have been shared through the stratosphere, yet UA-cam will just suddenly stop sharing them. It doesn't help that it often shows them as 'up next' suggestions to people that have watched the most random videos. Our favourite so far was "Bob Hopkins best movie clips". As much as we love Bob Hopkins, we don't feel that we are up to the standard of his best bits, so probably shouldn't have been suggested. We will still plug away and see what happens. Again thank-you so much for watching and your kind comment. Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

To be fair, he's a happy lad and just loves being wherever we are and getting loads of fuss. As for Seb, we're currently waiting for some test results. 🫤 The waterfall was exactly what we needed. We could have done with going again at the end of the day.🤣 We never considered Portugal not participating in WWII, but that makes sense. A lot of the damage done in Spain seems to have been from the Civil War. Thanks for watching as always. 💜🤟

      Hi Sarah, We do miss Potries a lot, especially our friends and neighbours, but have really enjoyed seeing all the new places and different cultures/lifestyles in different areas, even within the same country. We were blown away by the welcome we received when we got back 10 days ago. Even people that we had previously seen around the village and waved to, but not really had full on conversations with, made a point of stopping to talk and welcomed us back. It was also lovely that we managed to get back in time to celebrate the San Juan fiesta in the village on the 23rd. It's one of the fiesta where one complete street is used to set up lots of tables and chairs and the villagers all congregate and have food together. Then watch a fire burn and have the traditional fireworks, to welcome the warmth of summer. It was lovely to be able to be part of that again after so long. Our previous home looks amazing. The people we sold it to have put flowers on all the windowsills and it's lovely. Our neighbours agree that the couple we sold to are equally lovely and have integrated into the village completely, which was exactly what we wanted. They have asked us if we want to visit and see what they have done inside, but we don't want to do that. It would feel weird. We are however parking Perse in the carpark one street away from where we lived and have fallen back into several of our old routines. We always used meet friends with their dogs and ours, to spend time in an evening playing in the carpark. Now they just shout through the open motorhome door when we arrive and we don't have to walk so far. 🤣🤣 It does kind of feel like we haven't been away. It will be hard to leave again, especially our close friends, knowing we won't physically be able to see them for even longer this time, but we really have fallen in love with travelling and aren't ready to stop yet. Fingers crossed, you'll feel the same. 🤞😘 Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

    I’ve heard the Portuguese are a lot friendlier than the Spanish, having now experienced both what’d you think? Or is it more their just different? And all the best for your furry friend!

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife 17 днів тому

      On face value, Portuguese do seem to be more friendly as soon as you meet them. For some Spaniards, it takes them a little while to drop their walls and become friends with new people. Portuguese however, are most definitely much more considerate when driving. They are more likely to let people pull out of junctions in front of them and give way when priority is equal. Spanish drivers have always seemed to be in a rush to get everywhere and much more unlikely to encourage people to join traffic in front of them. 🤣 Thanks for your comment..! Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

      @user-qv6ts1sd6f 17 днів тому

      @@findingxanadulife ah ok, I’d heard that it was terrible to drive in Portugal so that’s interesting to know… we’re thinking to check out both countries as a place to live permanently, But it does feel there are less coastal areas (near large towns/cities) to choose from in Portugal. I’m swayed towards Spain because it’s bigger and because I’m currently learning Spanish and felt it would be the easier language of the two. We also want warmth not just in the height of summer (Yes +10 is warmth when you live in a place that hits -25 in winter). In addition to Spain being connected to other countries for different adventures. However, my partner likes the look of portugal too, but after much much research though we are heading to the Valencia region (Gandia as I mentioned to you in a previous post) as it seems to tick all the boxes. But your videos of Portugal have definitely had us thinking again haha! I love all your videos though! Can’t say I’m not nervous to start a new, I’m British and my partner is Swedish and I’ve lived in Sweden for years, so I’m not new to moving/living in a different country but my current lack of Spanish worries me. I know Swedish now but did have the comfort to slip to English as I was learning because there second language is English, but I don’t think that is an option in Spain so we’ll see how quick I have to learn then 😃

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife 17 днів тому

      @user-qv6ts1sd6f The north of Portugal is very wet, but as a result is very green. The major difference in the climate between our region of Spain and say the middle to southern area of Portugal is the night-time temperatures. In Spain once you get to May, the day time temps are high and the night-time temps stay warmer too. Subtropical nights are a frequent thing from June to October. It seemed that even when the daytime temps were higher in Portugal, the night-time temps dropped to under 20° which although meant that we had to put a jacket and maybe trousers on for an evening stroll, it made for better sleeping. In our home in Potries, we would frequently need to put the Aircon on in the bedroom for an hour before bed, but taking a stroll and 9pm or 10pm in shorts and short sleeves was still really lovely. In fact we used to often go to the beach at 7pm and leave about 9pm or later when the sun set. Unfortunately we missed out on a lot of the Algarve region to be able to compare that and won't be able to go back again until after we've been to Turkey. If you want to drop us a message to discuss it further, feel free. As a rule, Spaniards don't like the British or any foreigners for that matter, who just have holiday homes, or buy houses, reform them and flip them for a profit, but once our neighbours realised we wanted to make our life here, they welcomed us with open arms and we've been blown away by the amount of people who have welcomed us back and told us that they missed seeing us, even just for those shorts conversations that you mentioned. 😍💜🤟

      @@findingxanadulife ah I can relate to the sub tropical thing and hot nights as we’ve also lived in Australia… ideally I’m happy to be warm until it’s late evening and then we’re happy for it to be very cool to sleep. But I don’t suppose you can have everything in one place. I can understand why the Spanish don’t like that, and for us we want to make it home and to settle. What you have there sounds lovely, and thank you for the offer to message you it’s very much appreciated. Have a nice time when you reach home again and hopefully all goes well with sebastian 😊

      The animals are coping well. They are used to super hot Spanish summers. We have all the windows and the door open whenever we can, to get a through draft. Plus we have 4 electric fans, 2 of which are running most of the time that we aren't driving. They also have 4 cool mats in various places. The dogs still refuse to use them, but the cats will now. We occasionally park up in a place with an electric hook up, but most of the time we rely on the rooftop solar panel. The laptop usually runs from our EcoFlow powerbank that has mobile solar panels to charge it and anything that needs 240v. The motorhome does have a 2000 watt inverter, but we have only used it once or twice. We just don't need it. Hope you guys are well. 😘😘 Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

    The Palace of Mafra was never a permanent royal residence. It was used very little, just a few weeks a year for hunting. That's why the decoration of the palace was never finished. During the Napoleonic invasions, much of the furniture was taken to Brazil when the Court moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1808. Some curiosities: It is still the largest building in Portugal. It consists of around 1,200 rooms, more than 4,700 doors and windows, 156 staircases and 29 courtyards and halls. The King's and Queen's chambers are 232 metres apart in their respective turrets. The basilica has six historic organs, forming a unique ensemble in the world, as they were designed and built to play simultaneously if necessary. The palace has two carillons commissioned in Antwerp and Liège by King João V, with a total of 92 bells. They are the largest 18th-century carillons in the world.
