With the weather here bouncing between Autumn (wind, rain) and the place you've been (hot and humid) you clearly spent the days in a much better way than I do.
    As always, enjoyed your video!

      Hey Towah,
We used to get that in the UK, it was always difficult to know which season to dress for on any day, as the weather was so changeable.
We hope for more stable weather for you.
Glad you enjoyed the video. 😘
      Much love 💜🤟

As a Spaniard, you were correct about Santa Pola: it´s always been a traditional holiday destination for Spaniards, not so much for foreigners. Even in the middle of summer, when you do get a bunch of foreigners, the tourists are mostly from Spain.
And even though you missed a bunch of things (just the beaches are some of the longest in the Mediterranean, with more than 11Km without even leaving Santa Pola), the main thing you missed is a day trip to Tabarca, a tiny island not far from Santa Pola, where very few people still live, and can be walked in a few hours in its entirety.
Ships depart from the port quite often, and it makes for a special day at the beach, for very little money. I do think you would´ve liked it.
    Best!

      Hi..!
Yes, we would love to visit Tabarca, but at the moment, with having 2 dogs (and most places do not allow dogs on the beaches) we cannot be away from the motorhome for long periods of time. We would want to spend a full day at Tabarca and make the most of the views of the wildlife, snorkelling etc. It is still on our list to do at some point in the future.
Thank-you so much for your comment and your suggestion.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

We're not surprised. It's a beautiful place. You're very lucky. We hope the foreigners in your area are respectful and have integrated into Spanish life, rather than expecting everything to be as it was in their own country. 🤞💜🤟

There are great army and navy museums that are free. Any time we are there on holiday my son wants to go back to the army one it has tanks which keeps him happy, we have yet to visit the big guns up on the hills that you pointed out but it is a great pace to visit.

      Hi Sheila,
We think the army museum was at one end of the square where we had the Granizados. We were short on time, so didn't visit. We would love to go to the former submarine tunnels, that are apparently now warehouses, but it was such a long walk from where we were too. Next time...
Thanks for the comment. Much love 💜🤟

Hi guys, very very relieving to know that it's not just us who forgets to end videos 😂
It seems so strange to see you walking around when there's other people about! I do feel for you in that heat. Thank god for the Med to have a dip in. That snorkeling looked divine, and well done for doing it (and getting footage too).
The price of those attractions was quite a shock...are you sure Cartagena isn't a British overseas territory? 😂 The amphitheatre was very impressive though. We nearly stopped there when we drove through last year, I think time pushed us on however. Still, that seems an awful lot of money given how many wonderful castles et al you've been able to see in Spain for the price of a coffee. Such a vast difference! Those lovely looking iced drinks soothed the pain (and the heat) I'm sure.
Pretty sure we stayed in that old bus station motorhome place! If it's the one near Los Alcazares. I think I had my first Spanish haircut there.
Safe travels both and hope you find some respite from those temperatures! Nearly autumn I guess?! ❤🤟

      Hey guys,
Occasionally we like to visit places where there are actually people, but not often..! 🤪
The snorkelling was terrifying and great at the same time. I'm sure once I get a routine sussed out for demisting my mask, without swallowing a gallon of water, it will be much more fun. The fish were amazing though, especially the multicoloured wrasse. 😍🐟🐠
Cartagena in reality wasn't that expensive for the attractions. When they were added up, the charges were between €4 & €7. We're guessing it was to be able to find the excavation that they are still doing in the second theatre and one of the Roman roads, so we shouldn't complain.
The bus station in Los Alcázares was really cool with all the murals, thanks to the 'art centre' and very well placed for La Manga. We're the murals there when you stayed..?!?
Funnily enough, I (Alison) cut my hair there too..! Needs must and all that. 🤪
Hope your work is going well and you're soon back out on adventures again.
Much love to you both. 😘💜🤟

That stonework on the street you were walking between the Amphitheater and the Forum was phenomenal!! How was the full-face snorkel? I do not like getting my head underwater, but I think I may be able to do it with one of those masks?

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife  3 місяці тому

      Good morning Paulette..
There were some really lovely features in a lot of places in Cartagena. It looks like they take their history seriously. 😍 They are still excavating another Roman theatre near the castle, the hill above the Forum and Temple site and one of the Roman roads at the ancient crossroads.
As for the full face mask. It was ok. If you can manage to get used to it being over your face (it does feel claustrophobic) you should be ok with the water. Because you don't have the nose pincher, you can breathe through your nose and mouth. The snorkel tube has a float fitted, to stop any water coming down the tube, if you get hit by a bad wave. It would still be a good idea to learn how to blow the water out of the tube, just in case. I have heard Darren having to clear his snorkel tube often and not had to blow mine out at all yet. It does steam up, probably more than normal snorkelling goggles and needs to be cleared. Apparently this is the reason that they aren't that popular with most people. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Because it is fitted with elasticated straps that go around the back of your head, to clear it, you either have to pull the mask forward from your face and dunk it in the water, then drain it out again, which predominantly goes all over your face, or you have to slip the full mask off your head, dunk it, empty it and slide it back on, potentially all whilst treading water being out of your depth. I haven't mastered either way, to be able to advise best practice yet. The mask I bought, which was only about €35 so by no means high end, came with ear plugs too, which is great for protecting the PH value of your ears and avoiding ear infections. It just sounds like your ears are under water anyway, so it doesn't cut out too much sound.
For me, being able to see and concentrate on the fish, helps me to not think about the other issues, until it steams, so I mostly like it. Unfortunately there is no way to control teenage mermen who free dive near you, appear out of nowhere with flippers and bright white chests and dolphin roll in front of you, giving you a mild heart attack, or kayakers, who can't see bright pink UV protective t-shirts who aim for your head.
Ps best practice is most definitely to look out of the water regularly to see where you are and where other idiots are in their kayaks... Thankfully I did and could shove the kayak containing said 3 idiots out of the way to avoid a concussion at sea...
Mostly I guess, it would vastly depend on the reason for you not liking your head underwater, but if I can manage it, there's a good chance most people can. 🤪
Good luck and let us know how you get on..!
Much love as always, Alison and Darren 💜🤟
