Behind the scenes of my FIRST ever carving competition!
Join me behind the scenes of my first ever chainsaw carving competition! This was such a fun event full of growth, learning, good food, and good times! Huge shout out to my neighbor carvers Josh Miller of Artnsaw Chainsaw Carving located out of Delaware and Jeff Coss of Bear Grove Chainsaw Carvings located out of Iowa! They took me under their wings and showed me the ropes of the chainsaw carving event world, thank you both so very much for being so kind and supportive! Also a huge shout out to all the other experienced carvers (too many to name) that choose to share tips and knowledge with me and make this first carving event such a great experience, you all rock! The carving community is something very special to me. If you ever get the chance to go to one of these events, please go! It is such a great time and I promise that any money you choose to spend at these types of events is supporting some of the hardest working people I have ever met. Happy carving!

Turning a Log into a Snapping Turtle

Today we are turning a big old white pine log into a snapping turtle! Due to a change in the clients timeline, I started this project around mid winter and didn't finish it until this spring! This turtle will be presented by the client as a gift to some close friends of hers who have a meaningful story behind the snapping turtle. More content coming soon! ~SOCIALS~ Instagram: taym...

Today we will be turning some laminated wooden beams into a great grey owl! This is one of my new favorite birds of prey, they are just epic creatures! I used titebond III for the lamination along with some 1/2" dowels for added support. There are several more owls on order so I apologize if the owl videos are getting old lol! I will be working on the Pennsylvania chainsaw carving event and com...

What a cool project this was! This was my first open wing owl as well as my first snowy owl, there will definitely be more of both! I love unique requests like this, makes me think outside the box a little bit! I'm pleased to say the customer was very happy with the results and I'm honored that this owl will represent her little business for years to come! ~SOCIALS~ Instagram: tay...

    Absolutely awesome work! I can't believe you've only been carving for a year! Keep working at it. I think you found your calling. And judging from the smoke, I'm guessing you're from pennsylvania? I'm from Newcastle and I know that we were absolutely inundated. I also noticed the Penn State shirt that you were wearing. I'm a very artsy person and do all kinds of art stuff. I would really like to learn how to carve with a chainsaw. How did you learn? Did somebody teach you?

      Hi! I'm from Maine, 2 hours south of the Canadian border! Boyfriend is from the Pittsburgh area originally so we are in PA several times a year for carving events and to visit family! I honestly got a cheap saw, watched one video on chainsaw safety, and started! 100% self taught as most chainsaw carvers are :) The hardest part is simply just starting!

  • @Jesus-KingofKings-LordofLords.

    YES!!! 👏🏻 Congratulations 🎊🎈🎉🍾 Tay, you did an amazing job, and quick question, the guy who did that dragon fly, is he by chance from PA too? I’m pretty sure I know him, he lives out in Seneca and if that wasn’t his dragon fly I’d be super surprised because it’s his style 100% but anyways Ty for sharing, you do amazing work on all your carvings, such a happy good style, I’m stoked for ya

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23 2 дні тому

      There were 2 dragon flys, one was carved by Brigitte Lochhead from Canada, im not positive who carved the other! However, there were lots of PA carvers, so it's definitely possible it was the carver you know :)

    Looks great! How are the floors holding up after 2 years? Any shrinkage/gaps between planks?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23 3 дні тому

      We did these floors in two houses, the rental (the one in this video) and our house. The rental floors look just as good as the day we put them down! We put them over laminated flooring which some people made a stink about but they have held up great to heavy traffic! Our house we applied them directly to the plywood subfloor, since they are glued down they expand and contract with the floor. There is some gapping in the humid summer months but it's almost invisible to the naked eye, you have to be looking for them. Maybe 1/16", hairline gaps, close up around fall. Hope that answers your question!

      All items are auctioned off at these events, things tend to sell for less then they would private sale. Buyers get GREAT deals at these events! Hedwig's top bid was 1,800, I got 50% of that. Not ideal but it was worth the experience!
