Finally I’m able to comment on being the proud owner of this beautifully carved Great Horned Owl. It was indeed hard not to view the making of Mr. Owl on TayMaries channel until I received him by UPS. We wanted it to be a surprise. Today he finally arrived and what a magnificent carving he really is people. I have three of her carvings and everyone is this outstanding! TayMarie is the best and I have plans to commission her for others! Thank you Tay for another treasure for my home to enjoy! Blessings!!! ❤️☺️
So good! The new are brush makes it look so realistic. When you painted the yellowish orange on the eye I wasn't sure how it was going to look, in the end the eyes looked so real. You are so talented. Thanks for sharing with us.
For a hot minute I regretted painting the eyes because they looked good black, but I’m happy I went though with it, I think it added the wee color pop that was needed!
Ive seen many many chainsaw carved owls and yours is my favourite one. the airbrush brings it to another level it makes it look so much better. great job as always!
Ive done my 3rd owl now...and i strive for realism like you accomplished here. Your work is mega inspiring to me esp since i too am female. I see now all the areas i need work on. Thank you so much.
If you have FB be sure to join the many chainsaw carving groups, they have so much knowledge to share! Keep up the good work and just focus on doing something different with each carve, experiment, and don’t get stuck doing the same thing!
Instantly subscribed. I’ve never seen someone create a sculpture with a chainsaw that good! Love love love it. I look forward to what else you are going to make.
Hahaha and we kicked off the year with a BANG! Got about 1 foot on the first storm 🤦🏼♀️❄️ Honestly love the snow but the last two days have been around 10 degrees, that part I’m not a fan of lol!
I kind of miss the snow. Moved from Michigan 8 years ago. Still have this leonberger that needs a statue one day. couldn't find your email on your website. Im sure its there I just didnt see it. 🤓 Probably need glasses. @@TayMarie23
Another awesome carving Tay. Larry is a lucky guy. Great job and special mention to those Owl eyes you created. Amazing. Hi to Nami! You Tay also look like the snow has somehow tanned up your face..with a little colour! Looking forward to your next vid. Thanks Tay! Thumbs up everyone. 👍👍👍👍. Oh, watcha got cookin in the 45 gallon barrel?
Hahaha good eye 😂 Went on vacation in November and got some ☀️💁🏼♀️! Trying to burn some of my smaller scraps to keep up with the ever growing scrape pile! Also a great place to warm up the hands on these cold days!
Your carvings are beautiful. Love, love, love the owl.🤩 I have an airbrush that was given to me,...no idea how to use it,...lol! Good thing I like learning curves! So much to learn and loving it ! 😁 Thanks for all of the inspiration.❤ Love your channel.
Aww so happy to hear! This is definitely one of my favorite pieces, just love the statuesque look it has with the transparent stain and light shadowing! Play around with your airbrush, you will get comfortable with it in no time!
@@TayMarie23 Yes, this owl is stunning! I love how you incorporate movement of poses and extra bits and details, it just makes your pieces so dynamic. I hope one day to be as good at achieving that as you are. I really love how your shadows and the colors turned out on it as well. Beautiful! 😍 Thank you for the encouragement. I finally had my chainsaw and die grinder orders arrive, the day before Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's to me!! Squeeee! I'm thinking the die grinder I can handle, but I'll have to wait a bit on the saw as I have to wait on a teacher. I did get the chainsaw chaps as well. Any suggestions on in-ear protection that works well but won't break the bank? Hoping to use the die grinder in the next few days.👍🎉
Up until this past Christmas I had used a cheap harbor freight hearing protection headset, worked great. You don’t need anything special, just make sure it’s for construction/tools and not just background “noise canceling” headphones.
@@TayMarie23 Thank you. I might just do that. Since I'm a noob with the chainsaw, I've been looking at getting the hardhat with facescreen and the ear protection in one.🤷🏻♀️... IDK, but the Oregon one is available here in my town. I do just need the separate kind as well though. Thanks for the advice,... always appreciate it.💯👍💖
Hi Tay, I’ve referenced this video quite a lot so thank you very much! Awesome owl! I’m curious what oil you used to seal it? Its not gloss. I’m working on one of my own made of cedar but I only have a gloss sealer. I may have to pick up something else.
I didn't believe I could either until I tried, tried again, and continued trying until I got the results I wanted! We are the only ones who put limitations on what we can and can't not do 💛
Watching over n over prepping for a try at an owl with a better body/wings than my first attempt :) then i randomly notice a burn barrel? But it looked like it was only smoking from the hole in the top lid, which is usually removed and open. Made me wonder and start watching it. Then, bam, its gone. Lol.
I just started carving recently and i mainly do it cause i love playing with my chainsaws. At what point did you start to bring in other tools? im hesitant to buy a battery die grinder. I just like to carve with the chainsaw and hardly ever paint them. but that could be my adhd
Such an awesome owl. Wow. Thank you for posting. What kind of wood you mostly use, being in ME? I'm on Cape Cod and the closest red cedar is most likely hundreds of miles away. Lots of scrub/pitch pines here. Is it worth the effort? Take care.
I mostly carve eastern white pine, it's our state tree here in Maine! For cedars I carve norther/eastern white cedar. We do have a red cedar over here in the east but I don't see it often, even the white cedar is hard to find! Any wood can be carved, so don't let wood type stop you from trying :)
@@TayMarie23 that's unbelievable that you have had no art training. Great that you're in a profession that helps others. But my gosh. I've been working with wood, furniture, carving ( small stuff) for now on 30 years. You blow my mind and are 1 of my favorite carvers to watch. Keep it up kiddo and you will make a name for yourself one day
Thanks for the kind works Paul! I’m carving full time now, can always go back to nursing but I enjoy carving much more! Huge pay cut but money can only get you so far in life. Have always loved art, animals, the outdoors, and tools, so this is pretty much my dream job! Just going to keep pushing myself and improving and figure out the rest as I go 😁
Aged wood? If that is what you are asking, yes! I let my wood season for a minimum of 3 months, but most of the wood I carve is closer to 6mo-1y seasoned. I look for a moisture content below 20%, but the lower the better!
Well I started to watch and a little over a minute in I'm wondering why you're standing right in front of your object😂 But anyways, how beautiful. What talent! Too bad he cracked. Do you use green wood?
When I get in the zone I often forget to move the camera. At the end of the day getting these carvings done is my job before filming them, I do try my best though ☺️ Unfortunately all carvings will crack, whether you use green wood or not, just part of the stabilization process. Most of my logs have been sitting debarked for 6 months to a year so still very green, just don’t have the space to keep them longer at the moment!
Hahaha I try my hardest to find tolerable royalty free music but the options are limited! I have to change up the tunes occasionally or else I’ll go crazy while editing listening to the same song over and over 😂😂😂 I spend my free time surfing though the options to find okay jams for you guys!
I have not heard that one! I must have a familiar face because I am told I look like other people all the time haha! Hey if she’s a model I’ll take it 😂

Right. But I’m curious what you did to the bright yellow. It doesn’t show up as much on the finished piece. At yeast that’s how I see it.
Great owl, and I like that you made a tree stump out of a tree stump!
Love making the bases, especially tree stumps! I always chuckle when I’m carving the bark back onto the wood 😂
And you raise the bar again. Great job.
Always pushing forward!
Very nice!! Such detail is amazing. Love the snowy cold weather!!

So awesome! I like how the detail of the owl blends so well with the wood. Also the owl perch and claw! Nice!
Simple finish that lets the wood do the talking! Always so happy when customers let me go natural for the finish work!
