I just found this channel a couple hours ago and ALREADY feel the exact same way! I'm watching a true artist showcase their craft! Truly amazing work!!!
Right?! 😂 I always say that the carvings carve themselves to some extent! They always come out a little different and with their own little attitudes haha
Another great workwomanship Tay! I immediately noticed confidence. Nice to see Nami too! I cheated and paused the video to see your huge project in the back ground. Looking great from far far away. Looking forward to that reveal! 👍👍👍
We have had such bad weather this month it has made working on the big project so slow! But I should be wrapping it up in the next week or so and will try to get a video out by the end of September at the latest! Thank you Keegan 💛
Tay, very good beam bear ,the eyes even look startled which I think is really neat! Painting is a prime job and the fit on the post is as good as a carpenter!
Cutting that 90 out first is key! Then you just carve out that missing pizza slice 😂 I’m getting better at painting, I think an airbrush will help me get to the next level, but for now my rattle cans have done me justice!
Nicely put together TayMarie! I know how much you enjoy carving this little guy. The face is a really good one. I loved seeing you blocking with the mini bar and then getting to put your new Echo 2511P to use detailing. Excellent vlog young lady and it doesn’t hurt being really cute too! 😊
Just sat down to eat dinner and watch your new video, and as I go to eat my first forkful of noodles, 'noodle time' popped up on the screen...spooky xD
I have got to get a carving rig setup and some leg covers. The more I watch, the more I want to try myself. 2weeks in and I've made 2 three leg stump stools, 2 bear heads, 3 gnome homes atop of mushrooms, and today, my 1st stump chair with a back. Awesome new hobby it's been! Doubt my skills will ever match yours... Though it will always give me inspiration & something to work towards.
Love your talent, eye for detail. Personally, I’d want it burnt, wire brushed to leave the awesome details, and a glossy clear coat over it, just maybe paint in the eyes, but that’s my opinion. But it’s an outstanding work of art!
That’s a good size for a first go! I’ll be doing about 4 more of these this month, the orders for them just keep coming in! I have another video of carving these beam bears too, this video was my second one! Best of luck and have fun with it!!!
Sometimes, if the beam is smaller, some toes peak out so I like to detail them for that reason! All 4 paws took about 15 minutes so I believe its worth it even if it’s a bit extra work! But I totally understand! Thank you ☺️
Wow, you are an amazing artist! I don't know how you look at a log and just see what to cut away to get this results. It's mind blowing. Did it take time to develop this or did it come naturally to you? Just amazing! First time watcher, instant subscriber. You are amazing!
Aww thank you for the kind words and welcome to the fam! I have been carving for a year and two months now and every day has been a learning experience! It definitely comes easy to some but I still have to work for my results. It’s getting a bit easier as I’m more confident with my cuts ☺️
That's incredible! I do carving with a knife but I want to start using a chainsaw and dremel bits. But for me I would have a very hard time just cutting in and hoping the arms and legs are in the right place so it doesn't look like a mutant. I'm super impressed by your skill. You did such great work on carving and painting the pads of his feet, it's a bummer they get covered by the beam he will be perched on. I look forward to binge watching your other videos. Thanks for your reply.
Awesome work. What's the reason for burning if you're going to paint over it in black? Does the carbon help prevent the paint from soaking into the wood fiber? Thanks!
Great question, there are a few reasons! It helps clean the wood of the splinters and “fuzzies” to create a smoother finished product. Almost like a way of speed sanding. Another reason is because the wood is green, so by torching you dry out the exterior most layer of wood creating a better surface for pain and stains! Hope that answers your question ☺️
A bear like this would probably cost $100 just to ship! I’ll be working on a more compact version this March since these beam bears have been my best sellers, I want to make a version that would be more affordable and shipable! A link to my website is in my bio, maybe shoot me an email towards the end of March when I have those available!
The 90 degree V cut is so they fit perfectly around any square beam! These are not made to be displayed off a beam, only on, hope that answers your question!!
Thank you! So if you want to switch it over to a carving saw you also have to change the sprocket to 1/4 pitch (unless you go quarter or toonie tip, you can run a 3/8LP chain if you wanted). If you want to go 1/4 pitch you need to get Makitas electric saw 1/4 pitch sprocket, that’s what I found works after some trial and error. You can get your carving bars from so many places - Bailey’s online, Sawnuts, T&D carving, and many more! The chains aren’t anything special, you just need to get the correct pitch, gauge, and drive link chain for whatever bar(s) you end up getting. If you go on Cannon Bars website you can find what chain you need for each carving bar. Also to save you many hours of research the Oregon saw takes a C1 mount. I know that sounds like a lot of info but I promise it’s rather simple! If this sounds overwhelming you are best off ordering though T&D Carvings, talk to Tom, tell him your needs and he will get you all set up! Tell him I sent you! 😁
Of course! If you run into any questions along the way don’t hesitate to reach out! The chainsaw carving world is VERY confusing at first with all the saw adaptions. It was very hard for me to grasp everything at first so it’s my goal to make it easier for others to learn and get the stuff they need without the hassle I had to go though :)
Hi Tay, beautiful work as always. I have a question. My daughter is studying to be an animator and was diagnosed with thyroid cancer this year. “For fun” she has created a series of bears that are docile, and hang out in the deep forest She asked for an end table for her couch that had a bear, and I saw your corner bear here. Any hints on how to make the bear “hang” from say a limb? It’s going to be a challenge to get it all together as I am making the table and the bear. Any ideas? Thanks!
I have seen people carve bears with their hands up above their heads holding a glass table top, those always look super cute! I have also seen bears on their backs with all four legs in the air holding up glass for a table as well! Many cute options!
@@TayMarie23 my vote would be for you. But you are a very talented artist you do amazing work. I actually am retired and want to start carving smaller projects with a Dremel.
Go for it! Dremel works is very satisfying! Get yourself some chisels and gouges, they are so fun to work with and your have so much control! Wood working is a wonderful hobby!

I’m still playing around with methods but usually they are just screwed to the post/bear using a 8-10” timber lag that goes though the bear into the beam. The timber lags I use are already coated black so once screwed to the beam its done and invisible!
Just wondering 😅could you carve a German shepherd sitting down panting ( tough) hanging out a little bit. And then color it the appropriate colors, black and brown. And approximately how much would it be?
I sure can! The main issue is shipping…depending on where you are shipping alone could cost you upwards of $400+. Because of this I always recommend finding and supporting a local carver! However if shipping cost isn’t an issue or you could pick the carving up (I’m located in central Maine) then I would be happy to talk more! My email is tmcustomcarvings@gmail.com

Wow, awsome job! How do you attach it to a pole though? Do you use screws or something else, so it wouldn’t be seen?
8" black timber lag through a tucked away spot, goes through the body and into the beam. One is more than enough, but I usually use two :)
