C8 CORVETTE Z06 Makes UNEXPECTED HP Gains Using Only Bolt-Ons
WOW, you guys are the greatest supporters we could ever hope for. Our ZL1 Camaro Supercharger Lid Shootout video did amazing and we realize this is the stuff that you guys wanna see. So we wasted ZERO TIME putting together this C8 Corvette Z06 Parts Shootout, where we installed a slew of bolt-on parts, one at a time to see their individual gains over stock, with dyno results, and absolutely ZERO TUNING. That's right, no tuning, no resetting long-term fuel trim, all on 93 octane screaming to 8600 rpm. During this test, Erik takes you through every part selection, and their specs, and answers important questions about this C8 Z06 setup.

love the transparency brotha; beautiful clear unbiased work. Keep it up this channel is on the way up. I got a s550 gt500; but still love watching this stuff. That NA 5.5 v8 sounds so gorgeous up top.
Thank you for checking out the video!
Great video. And great work. But aside from an intake…. Not sure anything else is worth the cost benefit.
Keep in mind, the gains are cumulative. Just how we wanted to structure this test. If we had tested each product by itself on an otherwise stock car, gains would have been more significant from product to product. That being said, it is rare that someone just puts ONE mod on their vehicle. More likely they will add a combo of parts, like we did, so that is what we thought would have more value to the viewer in the end.
A lot of money for .3 or .4 tenths gain at the drag strip. Too each their own.
Agree and agree - C8 isnt a cheap car to mod...but remember tuning eventually will really help us make more with these mods!
Now this is how you measure the delta with performance mods! Well done! Lot of work in this video.
Thank you for checking out the video!
I'd like to see some testing of the FabSpeed high flow cats on a Z06. Fabspeed has their HP/TQ claims but I'd really want to see someone else test them.
I’ll see what I can do
Thank you for sharing. What do the kooks headers make alone since you helped develop them?
Funny enough, I have not yet been able to test JUST the headers on a stock car. I provided the vehicle to Kooks to build the first set at their facility, but the car was tested on another dyno, not mine. As soon as I install just a set of headers on a Z06, we will create another video on that...
spend 7 grand to pick up another 40 horsepower
"Corvette Tax" is real with the C8 brother!
So I have something to add to this. I actually installed a valvetronic exhaust and 3 days later reinstalled my stock exhaust. Will be uploading the videos shortly of the entire process
Why ? What didn't you like ? I'm planning my winter upgrade package and it's intake, throttle bodies, cats and Valvetronic exhaust. Now I'm second guessing my choice lol... even the weight savings is worth it ...lmk your thoughts, thanks !! Edit, 2024 Z06 coupe
@@poserwanabe so number one I found the same exhaust (after buying it and seeing how it came in) on 20 different websites and rebranded. Secondly after we put it on, it definitely toned it down. I confronted Ben about it and said if it was possible prior to filming on it maybe i’m going deaf all is possible from dealing with loud cars. So he then corrected what I said and simply said “we did not advertise an increase in sound just tone.” Last time I checked I purchased exhausts to increase sound even if it’s minimal not decrease.. May be just me but my opinion. Had many issues with the system throwing codes due to faulty harness (Chinese). Multiple people I brought the car around also noted it was a little muffled. That pretty much did it for me. Can check out our first video on black label auto black c8 z. Going to be uploading the other clips as soon as we get them uploaded. Reinstalled stock
Awesome, really appreciate the time you guys took to do this. Based on your experiences here, it looks to me like the best mods were 1) Eventuri intake followed by 2) Kooks headers. Ported throttle bodies were a victim of diminishing returns, and the stock exhaust in track mode is already pretty maxed out flow-wise (although perhaps the weight savings of a titanium exhaust makes it worthwhile for those who are very focused on shaving every lb possible off their Z06). Is that a fair summary? Also, speaking of weight savings, any insight on the comparative weights of the stock intake vs. Eventuri intake and the stock headers vs. Kooks headers? Just curious. Thanks again for the very helpful vid from a fellow Floridian!
It was our pleasure. Wasn't easy, but worth it in the end if it helps even one person. You have to consider one thing, this experiment was testing the cumulative results of each mod...not each mod by itself with all else being stock. There are already a ton of videos on youtube that show individual part results on stock cars. None of them show this type of result. And let's be honest, who adds ONE mod and nothing else? NO ONE. At a min, most folks are going to add an intake, and exhaust....so I felt that this test was more realistic in that respect. The Eventuri def picks up power. I showed that. I would also pair that with a set of the throttle bodies since you are already working in that area. Second would be a custom exhaust of some sort - from a performance stand point and weight saving stand point...and SOUND. WIN WIN. Hope this helps.
Amazing video for the community! Love seeing these types of detailed videos & test breakdowns of the parts. Keep up the great work!
Thanks guys - always appreciate your feedback and encouragement. Erik
So now they have gained back all the power they lost "upgrading" the wheels..would really be curious to see if that's why it dynoed lower than normal.
the factory wheels are insanely heavy… you have to pay to play for real weight savings but almost aftermarket wheels aren’t going to weigh any more than the cinder blocks the car comes on. CF wheels excluded, obviously
gains are relative, car hauls butt and sounds great, client is happy and we created content. I would say in the end, well worth it.
Great video…. But… the stock C8Z already has enough problems launching with stock torque 😂. Wish GM would have just stock a basic small block 427 in the car. Just my two cents
@@finwaydiddy1977 427 would have been epic
What was the mid range HP gain on Eventuri only? Your peak HP gains on Eventuri only are inline, but the Eventuri was created to address midrange, not peak. TB & Eventuri do not stack well its be proven on several Dyno runs. Zero need to pair IMO and some customers have removed the 91mm combination because of backwards performance. There’s a reason the 91mm was pulled off the shelf for a while. Maybe I missed which size TV you tested. IMO the Z06 “needs” one mode, Eventuri. Anything after is a diminishing HO return offering mainly sound and weight reductions, which has value to some. Believe you said your testing was over three days which OBV isn’t apples to apples. Appreciate the content.
It shows the dyno of the Eventuri only which includes mid-range at 8:20. The testing over three days had same engine temps and used STD CF on the dyno which was also shared. How is that not apples to apples?
@ You think the DA and conditions are the same from day to day? He’s talking about gains of 2-5hp which easily can be explained with changing conditions not mod performance.
@@superchargederay though that's true it would have an affect on SAE numbers. They use correction factor to remove that variable.
Good vid. I saw more gains from the soler personally but I had stock intake at the time and a different combo( cat deletes). I think that’s partially why the numbers vary sometimes between dynos after mods is the different combos . I do think there is a point of diminishing returns when doing one mod after the other but that being said this gives a good idea cumulatively of where u will be w given mods. Good job keeping conditions the same . Looks like temps didn’t vary much.
@@Brandonsgarages I agree 100%. It was cumulative. In a perfect world we would test each mod independently on an otherwise stock car, but I figure most folks aren’t modding their car like that…most will do it this way- so it was more realistic. Also- I can’t spent 5 days on a clients car- we still have a business to run. we took this opportunity to crate this vid as we modded the car- took 2 extra days to complete and countless hours to edit. People don’t see what goes on to create a video like this. Thanks for watching!
@ thanks for doing it the corvette community appreciates it
You guys need to test the mods individually and not as a group. There is diminishing returns when you keep piling on each mod and dyno. Yes… the total package numbers are important for sure but this isn’t representative of EACH individual mod. That’s what most people want to know. We try to do mods independently and I’ll tell you it’s a TON of work. Market the gains as a package and yes those numbers matter when you are all in but many folks may only do some of these mods. Good job….. I know how much work this is!! And we try to represent each individual mod as best we can even to the point of installing and removing LOL. Yah we are crazy!
While I don’t disagree with you- let’s face it- there are already a lot of videos out there that do something similar to that. Also- this is a clients car and we were on a time constraint….i would have loved to put a part on, then put it back to stock afterwards- but reality of this business is we also need to get the car done for the client. We saw this as an opportunity to modify and test the products in the same way someone out in the real world probably would. We started with the most basic mod- an intake. Then we went from there. Same way most consumers will out there. No one starts with headers in other words. Thank you for your feedback.
@ you bet. I get it from the business side of things. We run into that as well with videos we want to do but the time gets the better of you. I love the work and even doing it like you did… HARD WORK. Instead of tearing it all apart you had to put airbox back on in between etc. It’s not easy and most folks don’t understand how much work goes into a video like this.
@ it took 3 full days- and hours and hours extra…but worth it
@ Exactly! Lots of time! Thanks for posting
Kooks headers + stock mufflers sounded good AF
When we added the kooks headers the valvetronic exhaust was already installed. In the beginning of the video I listed the order of the mods wrong…that was my mistake. I said headers, then exhaust. It’s exhaust first and then headers last. Either way it sounds incredible I can tell you that!
Not saying that "a 2hp or 3hp gain is a waste of money" and giving an "A" is wild. To go thru an exhsust "upgrade" for the time and money spent for that Valvetronic Exhaust for a measly 2hp is ridiculous. Hard pass.
Agreed. It was conceded by the half-hearted laugh after giving it an "A". If something doesn't perform- it doesn't perform. Simple as that!
From a HP stand point, I agree with you. From a torque standpoint, it performed well. Overall quality and fitment and sound made up for the lack of performance. If I could add 4-5 degrees of timing to this car it would have picked up more peak power without a doubt. When I grade the parts, I considered all aspects, not just the power gain. I appreciate your feedback though thanks for checking out the video and commenting…that’s why I make these!
I have heard the valvetronic in person... alone it is much quieter then stock exhaust, complete waste of money - it changes the tone, but it basically just takes out all the drama people like about the stock exhaust
At time stamp 5.54 you said it made 561 HP baseline and at 13.58 you said 581 HP base. I'm probably missing something here.
561 was stock base. 581 was the current power output with the first set of mods before I added the valvetronic exhaust….the mod power results were cumulative throughout the video. I didn’t mods and then demod the car- I added one mod at a time starting with an intake and progressively added another mod in the sequence I thought makes sense…
Got it, I mistakenly thought you were undoing each mod back to stock to test each mod independently. My bad. Great video by the way. 👌
Finally an honest review!!!!
You’ll always get that from me- that’s why no one sends me free stuff hahahahahah
You should check out our stuff too. Definitely no BS….. we even pay for all our mods to test
@ same here- everything I have ever tested I paid for…even on my own ZL1. If I had tits and a pretty face it would all be free. SMFH
@ EXACTLY! And you don’t have to know anything about cars 😂
$5k in parts, $5k in labor, for +75hp +75tq. Seems like a crappy ROI to me.
So a car that you can't tune makes that hp and tq show me big brother this is very impressive
I understand that the C8 ecu has been unlocked by ec tuners and others as seen on other youtube videos by @ completestreetperformance and @boostdistrict @jesseteague2975
The C8 in general offers poor ROI in most cases. Just how it goes. ROI will improve when we can tune the car…but yes, the “corvette tax” is real with the C8 in general- more so with the Z06
@@jesseteague2975bingo - and the sound…my god
@jesseteague2975 what? I have no clue what you are saying. Is that english?
Did you keep the factor cats on?
No- the valvetronic supplies “test pipes”
Appreciate the honest review. A few youtubers are out there saying the throttle bodies are adding 15 to 25 hp, which I figured was way over inflated. Did you ever reset the long-term fuel trims like you said at the beginning of the video, and what was the impact, or did i miss that?
@@24c8z06 NP, we call it like we see it- let the people decide. We aren’t endorsed or paid by any of these vendors so… We reset trims and he’s been driving it around now for a few weeks. I’d like to put it back on the dyno soon and just make a hit and see what happens…I’ll update it in the description if I see gains or losses. You can also follow us on IG where I do a lot of follow up posts on our videos. Thanks
@@floridahighperformance really appreciate this. Quick question do you think a throttle body with the soler throttle control with the attack filter is good as a combo for z51
@@jaditention1713yeah should work well
So with all those parts fitted together, what were the gains please? LMR got big gains with throttle body and eVenturi together
@ that’s the final power at the end of the video. The modding and testing was cumulative- I installed a part and tested- installed the next part and tested…and so on….
What were numbers SAE?
I’d have to go back- convert them and get back to you. We use STD CF on our testing here as it’s most widely used across the industry
@floridahighperformance appreciate it, also which gaskets were the valvetronic exhaust missing? I have one waiting to go on I'd love to have the gaskets ahead of time to give the shop to save hassle
@NP I’ll try to remember to do it and I’ll post the numbers SAE CF. They were the gaskets that go between the header collector and cat- triangular flange gasket with the three bolts….
@floridahighperformance ahhhh, so since I'm keeping stock cats mine shouldn't be missing them. Appreciate it!
